  1. If you are not yet heavily invested i n Kodi - I would recommend looking at Plex Home Theater - works with controllers as well, and, IMO is a more polished interface.

    Audio setup help

All microphones need some power to run, and in all other situations you normally get a few volts of power from a microphone jack. Basically, with mac, you must use the USB adapter. The one antlion sells works great, otherwise there is a Sabrent one on amazon everyone uses.
  3. I'm sure there is a scientific measurement on the likelyhood of a substance becoming conductive over time. What that measurement is, I have no idea, but people have run computers in mineral oil for several years with no problems (myself included). You will likely start having other problems long before the mineral oil becomes conductive. Edit: Mineral oil is also used in Transformers on poles, and those are sometimes up for decades:
  4. Here is a general recording I made of the modmic using their $10 USB adapter: https://clyp.it/w51kw5c4?token=75dae8a83badef1b8b42629bbd18559c Here is a keyboard test of UNI vs OMNI directional settings: https://clyp.it/mhe1qzuj?token=73826117491537eeb6dac76191695ba7 I have a keyboard with Cherry Red Keys.
  5. As someone who has a MM 5.0, it sounds equivalent to the AT-2020 I replaced with it. In my case, I am using the USB adapter, as plugging directly into my computer does produce hiss and noise. Here is a quick recording I made: https://clyp.it/w51kw5c4?token=75dae8a83badef1b8b42629bbd18559c
  6. It really depends on your real usage. First off, if you want 7200 RPMs and want larger than 1TB, you MUST get a Black drive. Blue drives are only 1TB @ 7200, anything larger and it turns into a 5400/5900. This has been stated before, but I wanted to re-iterate. If you are running many critical things from the drive and not an SSD, get a 1TB Blue (7200 RPMs) or, 2TB and larger Black. If you don't care much about performance and you need extra space, you can get a Blue 2TB+ No matter your situation, BACK UP YOUR STUFF. No drive is perfect.
  7. He's recently turned 9. In this case it's more of a "is he responsible and can he share with his family the xbox on the family TV" type deal. His dad used to be super into games and whatnot as well, but, he wants to know what he is getting the family into since he has been out of the console world since the original xbox.
  8. Hah. Because I like to watch the world burn.... And yeah, we will try it, but yeah, don't have it yet, and his dad is also still in the deciding stages of "are you old enough for an xbox, should you just have the windows 10 version, etc etc). Not sure, but, Windows 10 Edition and Mobile versions are compatible. If you have a Win10 computer connected to the same network as mobile, you can play together (both locally, and also via their overpriced "servers" - realms). I think I finally figured it out on my own, and that no the xbox version is not (yet) cross platform with Win10/PE - but that its in the works for 2017. What I cannot wait to see, is if you will need Xbox Live Gold to play on xbox along with your Windows 10 and Pocket friends. Especially if you have a realm you are playing for. (Who am I kidding, of course you will have to pay for Gold and also for a realm). All I know is I hope Java is still developed for years to come so when he is old enough to play on that I can dust off the old server and get that going again.
  9. Hey All, So, I used to be a hardcore MC player several years ago, but stopped shortly after Microsoft bought it and released the Windows 10 Edition (beta). So please excuse what may be considered common knowledge. Add in the fact I have always been a PC gamer and only recently purchased an Xbox One. A couple questions I need answered/clarified: 1. My Nephew and I each have an Xbox One. In order to play together, do we both need to have Live Gold? 3. Can the Windows 10 Edition Beta play with Xbox one edition players directly, or via realms? Or was that not part of the Friendly Update.
  10. For reference, I am replacing an AT2020 with it. The AT2020 is amazing, and if I actually made videos/streamed I would have kept it. But this sounds just as good through VOIP (teamspeak, discord, etc) and almost as good for the occasional video. However it wins in the practicality department, as I can use it on my phone, xbox, etc and not need a boom arm in front of me.
  11. IMO, yes. Here is an audio review/test (he also has a 4.0 review with sound tests) Between the mic just sounding better (to me) in general, it also is both UNI and Omni-directional, so, it can sound better depending on your surroundings.
  12. Antlion Modmic just came out with their newest version a few weeks ago. This version is a bit more modular than the past versions. One of the key differences, is that the Microphone has a Omni-Uni switch, with two actual mic elements in the boom. Edit - Added Recordings: Here is a general recording I made of the modmic using their $10 USB adapter: https://clyp.it/w51kw5c4?token=75dae8a83badef1b8b42629bbd18559c Here is a keyboard test of UNI vs OMNI directional settings: https://clyp.it/mhe1qzuj?token=73826117491537eeb6dac76191695ba7 I also got the USB adapter, and have an adapter for xbox controller use. Ask me whatever.
  13. It's Probably just stuck due to dust/warping. Give it a nice tug, or, flathead screwdriver to the back.
  14. TP-Link for a cheaper solution, ASUS for a more expensive solution. Then just choose one that supports the wireless protocol the router does. For example, TP-Link TL-WN722N for router that supports N150 TP-Link Archer T2UH for AC600 TP-Link Archer T4UH for AC1200 (Comes with extension cable) ASUS USB-AC56 that supports AC1300 (Comes with extension cable)
  15. Depends on what you have for a wireless connection. What router/AP do you plan on connecting it to? Also, obligatory "get a long ethernet cable, wireless sucks" statement.
  16. With most desktop mics, you will want to have it close to you so you do not have to turn up sensitivity/mic volume, reducing the background noise. What also reduces background noise is using PTT instead of Voice-Activated. But regardless, you will likely want to get a boom arm. The other item is isolation. You may find that tons of desk noise is transmitted into the mic due to minimal isolation. this is another reason to get a boom arm - but you may also end up needing a shockmount. This is where a GOOD headset mic (like a modmic) is nice for everyday needs, without needing a boom arm to get the mic close to you. In any case, AT-2020 is great - It's what I've been using for a year or so. But I really do wish I had not spent the money, and instead purchased a ModMic.

  18. I just got an xbox one S from best buy, and am wondering what warranties folks have used and what is the best one from experience? I am within my return period, so, I have some time to add on the best buy warranty (geek squad) for $50 - but what about square trade or "Microsoft Complete" or others? Any suggestions?
  19. Step 1. do a system image/full backup. Step 2. Try it out, being sure to re-install drivers. Really, there isn't really a best/magic way of getting it to work, and a computer shop won't be able to do it any better than you.
  20. Can you not buy both, use for a couple days and return? I did that at Guitar Center here in the US, and I explicitly told/asked the guy if that was okay, and he said "sure, as long as you don't break it".
  21. Hey All, Has anyone done this? I just bought the BF1 preorder One S from Best Buy - as part of teh deal, they give you $30 off of any xbox one controller, both new style and old - I made the mistake of ordering the covert forces controller - I did not realize it did not have bluetooth. So I paid $35 for the controller (normally $65) after $30 discount. When I pick up in store later this week (I'm doing all this from hotel across country) is there any chance they will let me exchange it on the spot for one of the new controllers? The new controllers are actually $5 cheaper. or because it's part of a "deal" they will only give me $35 to use?
  22. You need DISTILLED water. Normal filtered water or bottled water is conductive still, and will fry anything it touches. Distilled has a better chance of not doing so.
  23. I do agree, I was not using a DSLR (or any photography) when the D700 was widely used. But as a comparison, I did just handle most of the lineup the other day and can see how "prosumer" the D750 feels compared to 810, D500, even the 610. - Not saying it's a bad camera (It's my main camera and I don't regret buying vs the 600/610). But they were definitely trying something different with the 750.
