  1. It seems like NCIX was on its way down for a long while. Their entire exit from Ontario, which I mentioned back around July 28th (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/814134-ncix-retail-stores-in-ontario-closed-for-good/?do=findComment&comment=10215000) and was featured on @Slick's WAN show document (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/814240-july-28-2017-the-wan-show-document/?tab=comments#comment-10216016) was especially acute. I really feel for the ex-NCIX employees who lost their jobs, especially the guys at the Ottawa shop who helped me with my massive AIO leakage problem. May they find greener pastures beyond NCIX and find a stable and good job.
  2. In the b-roll, you can see Colton looking VERY angry while @James being all smug listening to his tunes via the speaker phone.
  3. I've got the exact same thing (INTJ or ISTJ, depending on my mood) as well. Anyways, speaking of personalities, I thought I'd arbitrarily guess each LMG personality based on the Myers-Briggs: Linus - ENTJ Luke - ENTJ Nick Light - I??? Edzel - INTP Brandon Lee - ISTJ Taran - ESTJ Colton - E?FJ Jon Martin - ISTP? Dennis - ISFJ James - ENTP Nicky V - ENFP I have no idea about the others...
  4. @nicklmg Can we get a CSF video of decorating your new spacious office?
  5. I believe @TaranLMG used to live in America at some point in his life, judging by his comments in the Team Taboo video on the CSF video:
  6. There are many caveats with respect to vinyl records, most particularly the equipment and how well a record is mastered and cut by a sound engineer. Even with today's records being wholly digitally recorded, mixed, and mastered, you can still get decent sound and even better dynamic range, provided that a sound engineer can create a dedicated master for a vinyl LP. A wholly digitally clipped/brickwalled release is physically impossible to cut on a lacquer or a direct metal master since the cutting machine won't even handle the sound quality, which partially explains why people noticed that some records are "less fatiguing" to listen to. And there's even more factors that come into play including the pressing plant, how clean your records are, sound difference of various record pressings and editions due to different mastering by different sound engineers, the sound source, etc.! Equipment is another HUGE factor in getting decent sound, but with the onslaught of horrible players from Crosley, Jensen, ION, Boytone, 1byone, and even low-end turntables like the Audio Technica LP60 or the Sony PS-LX300 are known to be quite problematic to the point of causing accelerated groove damage to the records. This includes heavy tracking force (the stylus onto the grooves), speaker vibrations (built-in to the player or placing speakers too close to the player), no anti-skating (meaning the stylus is properly centered onto the grooves, which would otherwise hit the groove walls back and forth, which is applicable to the low-end Crosley players), and records skipping from loud and dynamic passages in the grooves. And that's only scratching the surface as I haven't gotten into how phono preamps, different cartridges and stylus shapes, speakers (even right down to how it should be placed), etc.! To get somewhat good sound quality, I would liken to it to Taran's electric bike reviews (particularly his WaveBike 2.0 video) in which there are simply unavoidable costs in making a good piece of equipment. Personally, I'm fairly format agnostic as I try to find the best sounding release of my favourite albums, whether it's lossless digital media, vinyl LP release, etc.
  7. I had a major AIO leak with my Arctic Liquid Freezing 240 earlier this year inside my PC built by NCIX. I immediately contacted both companies and they agreed to replacement the CPU and motherboard.
  8. I'll have to agree with @Volbet as it's probably one of those all-in-one type wooden boxy players from the likes of Crosley, Jensen, Electrohome, Sylvania, and countless other brands sourced directly from the Shenzhen Skywin OEM factory. They are truly infamous for its very poor build quality that utilizes cheap plastic parts, which will also put extraneous wear and tear on your records.
  9. Taran is 6'3", the tallest of the LMG.
  10. Oh yeah, that's understandable. The news actually made an appearance on last Friday's WAN Show Document here: Nevertheless, the news totally sucks as I personally prefer NCIX over many computer shops and been a customer with them since early 2005. And as mentioned before, my customer support experience over the Ottawa shop was great during the horrific AIO leakage of April 2017.
  11. Wow! I guess this thread made into a spirited discussion regarding the viability of brick and mortar shops and big box stores and the state of NCIX overall. Even Amazon Canada is effectively gained significant traction in the computer retail market, though I can't say about Tiger Direct nor Canada Computers on how well they're doing. This means that retail is hugely cutthroat than ever before, no thanks to disruptive technologies and companies struggling to adapt to the ever changing landscape. There's been a lot of rumours and anecdotes about even the state of NCIX themselves in BC, going by the posts on the Vancouver Reddit page. I have to wonder what @LinusTech and @Slick (didn't Luke used to work for them before?) have to say about all of this.
  12. Source: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/psa-all-ncix-stores-ontario-closing-2113503/ Source 2 (Ottawa, Toronto, Mississauga closing): http://forums.ncix.com/forums/?mode=showthread&forum=192&threadid=2759050&pagenumber=9&msgcount=1&subpage=1 Source 3 (Ottawa, Toronto, Mississauga closing): http://www.redflagdeals.com/latest-news/17/07/19/ncix-closes-three-stores-in-ontario/ According to the internal email, leaked by somebody at RedFlagDeals forums, all NCIX retail stores are closing up show, leaving the Markham warehouse and showroom left in Ontario: Greg at NCIX publicly posted news of the three Ontario shops closing up in the NCIX message boards: From the RedFlagDeals news source: http://www.redflagdeals.com/latest-news/17/07/19/ncix-closes-three-stores-in-ontario/ This is quite sad news as I received decent customer service from NCIX from the Ottawa store back in April 2017 when I had my Arctic Cooling AIO leaked, which destroyed my motherboard and CPU. It goes to show that that sticking with retail shops for computer parts is increasingly nonviable, dealing with razor-thin profit margins. And yet tech retail stores like Best Buy manages to adapt and survive the ever changing retail landscape from away from their physical store model to online. I'm sure a lot of us Canucks and Linus will lament the loss of the NCIX stores closing up in Ontario. Six years ago, Linus was even at the grand opening at the First Markham Place (which has long since moved to the Markham showroom location), seen in this video below:
  13. What's the make and model of the turntable and cartridge?
  14. Agreed with spwath as most turntables below $200 are total crap, including the Crosley/Jensen/ION/etc., Audio Technica LP60, and Sony PS-LX300 players. The closest is the U-Turn Orbit if you live in the US or a Denon DP-300F if you can get it during sale events. Otherwise, search for something used via Craigslist (USA) or Kijiji (Canada).
