Plex blocks IP addresses from Hetzner as of October 12, 2023
Fasterthannothing replied to secsudo's topic in Tech News
See here is one small detail everyone is forgetting. It won't cost Plex a dime infact it will make them more valuable as a company! Why because everyone or almost everyone uses the lifetime membership. Meaning even if they switched to another software they still paid Plex for that lifetime membership and now Plex essentially gets the license back. Not to mention they have every right to block ip addresses that are abusing their terms of service much less the legal necessity to atleast attempt to show attempts to remove pirates from their services. -
Yeah right I'll see it when I believe it. My parents have a wireless printer from HP the only way I could load the drivers and getting it connected to the network was by compiling the drivers for Linux and then going into the network control panel over USB and manually adding the network configuration. The drivers that it originally came with only worked for Windows Vista and Windows 7 and it refused to run in Windows compatibility mode.

I was gonna say what the heck am I the only one on the planet that actually likes the buit in mail client. I've never had any issues and I actually think the outlook app is worse than the built in one. It's just too much going on with it.

I agree in some ways. I think a lot of times requiring everyone in the office is the stupidest thing ever. However for some meetings it is better to be in person however I think it's far from mandatory. Me personally I love hybrid I get to enjoy not commuting my life away, I save gas, I get to live out in the country away from the chaos of the city and I'm able to tolerate a long drive since it's only a few days a week. But if I do feel something needs face to face collaboration I still have those few days in the office to accomplish that.

I mean it's not entirely facepalm he really should consider stepping down at least temporary to ensure 1. Hes actually considering his actions and what lead him there 2. So he can get out of his own way for a while. -

Exactly honestly it should be like $300 Also if plex stopped trying to add stupid features they could slim down the development substantially. At this point it should be 90% stability and 10% innovation if they are slim on cash they need to focus on the product itself branching out obviously isn't helping. But at least they haven't pulled people's life time subscription so I'll commend them for that.

Malware spreading through minecraft mods.
Fasterthannothing replied to PunCrathod's topic in Tech News
Yeah this is why you don't randomly install stuff from the internet. Minecraft mods have always been problematic in regards to malware. -
Apple basically just released Proton for Mac

honestly that's amazing -
Maybe because everyone can see the writing on the wall. They don't need our money anymore. Yes we still give them 33% but in reality it's shrinking literally every week. They still don't have competition in the high end card space from AMD and they are barely trying anymore. The literally just release cards for gamers at this point to subsidize bad yields on their business grade stuff.
-
Or maybe they aren't actually going to be competition at all. I actually foresee Intel doing gaming GPUs and Nvidia dropping them completely in the future. They aren't really in it for the gamers anymore.

US considering requiring AM radios in all Cars
Fasterthannothing replied to Strawmelon's topic in Tech News
Honestly I agree with this as someone who lives in the middle of nowhere and drives through multiple places without signal. Having a radio for emergency broadcast isn't a bad idea. -
Actually I disagree. I have a pair of nreal glasses they are phenomenal. I wasn't expecting much from them considering how much they actually look like sunglasses but they have continued to blow me away at the display quality. I absolutely love using them as a portable screen for my laptop and my steam deck so this system seems perfect.
