  1. I have a 4570k which overclocked really well for me. I decided the price to upgrade to a 4970k was too expensive for it to be worthwhile and built a completely new system with a 7700k since i wanted a processor with hyperthreadng.
  2. iMessage uses internet data, whether it is on wifi or cellular. It does not use very much data but it does use some. if your messages go to an iPhone it will fall under that. A non-iMessage device will still send SMS or MMS messages which may have a cost per message depending on your plan. With an iPhone if your bubble is blue it's na iMessage, and if it's green it is a text message. Should it switch there will be a notification such as "SMS from" above the message.
  3. if you were going for an iPhone the cheapest is the iPhone se, smaller size but still has the 6s internals. the 6s is decent too. And still has the headphone jack. I wouldn't got a 6 though, I still have one personally but it's just because I have it and haven't upgraded. I probably wouldn't buy a new one. Also the iPhone 7 does have an included headphone adapter so you could use whatever you wanted with it.
  4. you have to make eye contact with the sensor as well, so it's not just in front of your face. if you close your eyes or look away it won't unlock either.
  5. Often dock Ethernet ports are just passthrough for the internal NIC. So if there are issues with ethernet a dock may not help.
  6. My PS3 does just fine with DVD/Blu-Ray, Netflix and Hulu playback. I rarely use it for Plex (since I have the Mac Mini that runs my server hooked up to the same TV) but the I have it worked fine. Personally I would probably fix it regardless of the cost because it would be interesting. replacing a spinning drive with an SSD and putting a new optical in would be fun.
  7. That model includes AVR and it has a light indicating if it's being used (bottom left of the LCD). If you see that lit frequently it could be an issue with power or wiring in the location. There's also a sensitivity setting on that model and the default is medium, you may want to turn the sensitivity up to high. From the manual:
  8. is the UPS also an AVR? if you get brownouts that can cause issues like you describe, but an AVR uses the battery to clean the power before it hits your system.
  9. i personally love buying whatever cheap one has blue style switches for like $30. I got a rosewill one with green and red backlighting with really cherry switches for like 60 and that's been good too.
  10. i've only ever seen something twisted like that when using an impact driver with a non-impact rated bit so it's pretty unusual. I would contact them.
  11. watch the Linus video from last week about Air vs. AIO, they go over options using i7s. Basically, a Noctua is about as good as a 240mm AIO I think was the conclusion
  12. For rugged laptops the Panasonic Toughbook is pretty much the standard. They are expensive and can be configured with dual core with hyper threading i7 processors. quad core processors in laptops aren't super common in most configurations aside from the higher end performance systems right now.
  13. You should watch the 4th season of Silicon Valley... there's a story arc that pretty well establishes the issue being developers aren't the same as users and self-selecting beta testers are often not representative of the user base at large.
  14. Since most adapters are inverters to DC its not exactly required to have a ground. Lots of adapters don't require one.
  15. It is possible, though rare, to keep user preferences from being changed. It's unlikely that anywhere would block setting the homepage though as it poses no security concern. I say this as a Mac System Admin with experience in education.
