  1. Are you sure your system is POSTing? You might want to check with a keyboard or something to see if your machine is posting as this could rule out video being the main culprit.
  2. 32GB isn't overkill for my workload...(hint: gaming isn't the priority for this machine) Flare X was cheaper than the alternative for the same capacity ;p Moving to i7 later on this year, CPU is just a stopgap PSU is a Xigmatek Tauro 500W I have tried all the slots, I am pretty sure they're faulty but wanted a second opinion on it, the weird part for me is the sporadic nature as some of them did work for a short amount of time before failing again.

Have you actually tried putting the RAM back to stock? Maybe a Windows update could have b0rked it... Windows isn't exactly a bug free system.
  4. Have you tried the internal GPU to see if you get an output with that too? Can you provide a more detailed specification of your parts such as RAM, PSU etc.
  5. Hi all, I'm a bit stuck - usually I don't have an issue but I thought it'd be worth asking the community for help on this one: I've just built a new machine and I've been having some crazy issues that I think are motherboard related. When seating all 4 sticks of RAM, the board just wouldn't turn on. I tried each stick individually as a single stick and later with two and they worked just fine - which makes me think the RAM isn't at fault. However, when all 4 sticks are in the board doesn't POST, and now it seems like a lottery of how successful the PC is to start, it successfully booted and ran for 3+ hours when I had 2 sticks in and I thought everything was fine, then I placed 4 in, noticed it wouldn't boot again so I pulled the 2 ones I had installed back out and the machine fails to boot again - no matter what stick I use even though they worked previously without any issue (however the board never booted with all 4 sticks in.) Any idea before I shout at ASUS? My component list is: ASUS Prime B250-Plus ATX Motherboard 4 x 8GB DDR4-2133 G.Skill Flare X RAM Intel Core i5-7500 CPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 4GB GPU deadish Seagate HDD 500GB 500W PSU Thanks.
  6. While this is off-topic, all of those points are anecdotal evidence of why it's better rather than quantitative. Number 6 is also a complete lie. The rest are objective. On topic: I think it was originally marketed as one of those QoS programs with better LAN drivers to enable that... however I think now they just want to get rid of the stock they have and try use it as a selling point.
  7. CB is still popular to this day, I've got a few CB radios kicking around, and me and a pal occasionally speak on it rather than using Skype or TeamSpeak... sometimes you can pick up passing trucks as some (especially night truckers) still keep a CB radio for a bit of company.
  8. What are you more enthusiastic about? If you can't do anything with the video then perhaps a PC would be a wise original investment, however if you just want it for a hobby - I'd highly recommend a drone. One of my colleagues is a drone enthusiast and he makes some cracking stuff with it.
  9. It's software-optimized Atheros LAN chips with a fancy colour and a cool name. No benefit, and sometimes a disadvantage compared to Intel NICs.
  10. The worst experiences aren't with "non-techies" but rather people who have a small amount of knowledge about computers and try to apply that to every situation. One of the battles I have at the moment is working with a SAN with plenty of space but very limited backup space so we have to be really careful with our quotas. Was walking through a corridor after puling down a projector (so, yes - projector etc in hand and in a visible rush) got stopped and was asked "Can I have more hard-drive space? (he already had 20GB, after clearing out his files that turned into 5gb used....)", then proceeding to have a 15 minute conversation about how it isn't just as easy as installing another hard-drive.... The guy was there saying "but I could buy the hard-drive if we can't afford it?" -- no mate, that's just not how it works.

  12. Don't put toothpaste on your phone, you're gonna have a bad time. I'm assuming there is a reason beyond it looking ugly to why you would like to hide this - but trust me, owning up to it will save a lot of problems in the future.
  13. Hi, Sorry if I'm being dumb, but jolly old Floatplane seems to not be able to purchase? It kills the subscription the second it creates the subscription... the card has worked for other subs in the past (Spotify, DigitalOcean recurring etc.) so am unsure why it won't work here. Hope I can find a solution soonish Thanks, edutechie
  14. It's an developers (E3) license for O365, but I'd imagine it would be more than 15.. you can get 7 additional BizSpark members so at least 7 extra CALs. I have heard of users with 20+ on a BizSpark tenant for O365. However your additional WS 2k16 CALs may have to be dealt with by M$ themselves - you could try their "Pre-sales & Licensing Team"... have a little google for them and they should be able to be more helpful about CALs.
  15. Server 2016 CALs are dealt with MSDN Developer Subscriptions from what I have heard in the past, and afaik the EULA allows 5 Free CALs. Microsoft Office is Office 365 on BizSpark so that is already a per-user subscription, dealing with the CALs for that suite.
