  1. Unless you plan on OCing that card into oblivion, just get an air cooler. You usually can hit similar OCs and they cost much less. I prefer th 1080ti. The performance difference between it and the 1080 is significant enough to justify the price. Get a Strix or FTW ICX variant though. It's like $100 cheaper and has virtually the same performance.
  2. Hey guys, Just curious why TEC/ Peltier cooling is not more prevalent in PCs? I've seen claims that they allow for sub-ambient temperatures, which seems great for enthusiats? What are some drawbacks and why are these coolers not more common? Thanks!
  3. Dang you're lucky... would love a galax card but they're SUBSTANTIALLY more than other cards where I am.
  4. In general, I would personally weigh whether the aesthetics matter more to me than performance in one specific instance. For example, I'm opting to got for a 240 rad over a 280 because a 280 doesn't fit in a case I like. In your situation, I would go with the ASUS. Both cards are 1070s from reputable companies. Both cards will have nearly identical performance with differences being not even 1 fps. EVGA might have better cooling, but as long as you have enough airflow in your case it should be fine. Look at benchmarks though. If the EVGA cards is blowing the ASUS out of the water (which I doubt), go for it. If anything less, it's not worth buying a card you don't like the looks of, specially if you're gonna be building with a glass/acrylic side panel.
  5. And with the prospect of raising literally millions in the matter of seconds, ICOs are extremely appealing and a full out ban probably wouldn't be effective. But it should be interesting to see if it can be regulated enough to discourage its use, such as if it's taxed by certain governments more highly or limits are set to how many tokens can be distributed by firms.
  6. I was planning AER for the rest of my build so might go with those. Thanks!
  7. Also I personally would not put the micro ATX board in an ATX mid tower. Might look a little funky but that's just aesthetics completely subjective.
  8. Which fans would you recommend? Would love to go with some Noctua fans but the colors clash with my build... RGB, white, or black is what I need. Curse you Noctua and your poorly match-able beige/brown fans!
  9. Hey guys! I'm putting together a new PC with a 7700k (or waiting for 8700k) and wish to cool with an AIO. Love the aesthetics of the Kraken series so was planning to go with either the x52 or x62. Unfortunately, the case I like (Lian Li PC-O8WX) only has 120mm fan support, thus limiting myself to the x52. Is the cooling performance between the x62 and x52 big enough to justify changing my case for the x62? Additionally, if 8700k thermals are similar to the 7700k, would the x52 allow enough headroom for a significant OC? Thanks for the help!
  10. While not as extreme, it seems to be representative of a larger trend of governmental backlash against ICOs in general. Even the US SEC made action stating the ICO transactions may be subject to federal scrutiny this past June. Source: http://fortune.com/2017/07/26/sec-icos/ As @Taf the Ghost previously stated, the move does make sense to a degree (arguably much more than other laws there)-- currency controls. As the second largest economy globally, these currency controls keep the Yuan from complete devaluation. But in the end, "we can't stop this evolution so we're just gonna jail everyone" isn't great.. Atleast maybe I can buy an AMD graphics card soon!
  11. Latency is less important for the Ryzen chips. 2400 mhz is fairly slow and Ryzen chips definitely highly benefit from faster ram. If you can get 3000 or 3200 (assuming it is compatible) you should see better results.
  12. I'm not positive as I do not have this cooler, however some AIO's have a minimum fan speed which you cannot go below. Additionally, I would recommend remaking this post in the Liquid and Exotic Cooling sub-forum. You may find more people who can aid you there. Sorry if I wasn't helpful though and good luck addressing the issue!
  13. Well ICO isn't exactly an alternative to shares. An ICO is an early buy-in at crypto-currency firms (IPO for currency firms specifically) to my understanding (I may be incorrect in my interpretation please correct me if I am). However, Ethereum actually started out as an ICO and is a primary reason why ICOs boomed into the future. While, yes, there is little to no accountability as of yet if the company goes bust, investors are returned their money if goals aren't reached. ICOs have had some success raising just over $1 billion with the aforementioned Ethereum (the one that matters to us for GPUs) becoming insanely popular after its success and raising early adopters insane amounts of money. More than just this ban to ICO's though, this could mark the beginning on regulation on the previously-thought unregulate-able area of cryptocurrencies.
  14. 1080 can provide 1.5-2x the performance of a 1070, and since prices around around $50 of each other right now, 1080 beats the 1070 in raw power AND price to performance. Personally, if you can squeeze it, I would get the 1080ti. Single fastest card to date for ~$200 more. Will let you use your system to the fullest potential and for more time (most likely). But honestly, the 1080 and 1080ti are both killer cards and you should go with whatever fits your budget best. You're really picking between two great options, so not a huge loss if you go with the 1080. Hope this helps!
  15. Why is this a significant problem? I understand that heat dissipation would be better if soldered, but if it's hitting 4.8 on water anyway (not sure if it was delidded), does it matter?
  16. https://www.coindesk.com/chinas-ico-ban-a-full-translation-of-regulator-remarks/ This article by CoinDesk breaks down the actual ban and its implications pretty well. Found it informing as a supplement to the original article. Additionally, CoinDesk provided the original, untranslated, unedited statement by the government.
  17. With that budget, you could probably include an HEDT CPU and even upgrade to a 1080ti. I would look into these options (I personally like the 7820x or 7900x). I would definitely wait for Coffee Lake first, however. For gaming, CPU's with similar IPCs don't make a whole lot of difference. There is no questioning that the 7700k is the king of gaming (and if the rumors are true, maybe the 8700k). The 7700k won't give you SIGNIFICANTLY better performance than a 1700, but it is better. If you want every ounce of gaming performance, go with Intel. If you care more about heavily threaded tasks (rendering, streaming, etc), go with Ryzen. As for you question, most games will have support if not natively, they upscale.
  18. Those brands are significantly different than "chinese sellers" with "fake 770s or 660tis." Colorful is arguably as large and popular as MSI, Gigabyte, or ASUS in Asian countries. A lot of their higher end cards are even comparable to KFA2 and high-end ASUS/MSI cards.
  19. I don't know if this necessarily fixes your situation, but you could do this and make custom key caps to solve your problem permanently.
  20. 1070 to 1080 is a SIGNIFICANT improvement. For a $50 premium, you're getting arguably 1.5-2x the performance.
  21. If you go with R5 or R7 like someone above stated, 2x4 is better accepted/utilized than 1x8. Not sure if the difference is immense on Intel, but in general dividing into more sticks is better.
  22. R7 Much better. Streaming is a heavily threaded task, so, in general, more cores is better. The 4790k has half the cores of the R7, so the difference should be significant.
