  1. I challenge Linus to make that server (to scale or calculate) to consume no more than 1.45 Watts per TB of usable space, assuming RAID-6. Rules: Max. Total TDP 1450W per PB of usable space, RAID-6. 1 CPU core = 3 HDD 1 GiB RAM/TB of raw space 3 GB of SSD (SLC, eMLC or MLC) cache per TB of raw space Has a speed of 1 GB/s write and 2 GB/s read. Can Linus do it? I doubt it. But in my calculations, it IS possible. (The efficient ones are below 1.4W/TB usable, but I can make below 1.1W/TB usable.) Enjoy ur headache Linus.
  2. Oh ok so what you both mean is Cineform is better optimized for Titan Xs which performs better with CUDA acceleration than editing ProRes? Ok. And what is the point of them shooting ProRes for a Low-Quality (14 Mbps) YT upload?
  3. Theoretically, their transfer speeds if running on dual channel will be equal on each stick. 10600 stick is about 1333 MHz I guess. Why don't you buy 2 new RAM modules? DDR3-1600 2x 8GB should suffice in almost all workflow/applications.
  4. Why..? Why the heck Linus? Enough of the exaggeration... Why do you shoot in ProRes, which is easy to edit and post process, he still transcoded the footage to Cineform? Is he just wasting time or something? For footages from GH4, 100 Mbps H264 UHD 29.97 fps, I get it. But for FS700 or FS5? It doesn't make ANY sense to transcode ProRes to Cineform. I guess. Can somebody please explain?
  5. If you keep a backup, great! If you don't, have you tried using a data recovery software? Try using open source ones.
  6. Exact same config as those "Optimize your SSD+HDD setup" - 120 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD!
  7. Why do I need to know? Well, I am still figuring out how to get really solid perfect 1080p to 1440p images out of a video camera that is low budget so I can make movies with great quality and great detail. I *can*.
  8. Well, it quite depends. But I'd say go for what you can comfortably afford. But if you need complex splatting, the RX 470 actually performs better than RX 480. But for a 22% increase in a performance test, you will need to pay about 30% more.
  9. What camera does LMG use to shoot Techquickie videos? In the 2014 shoot they were using either Blackmagic Cinema Camera or Blackmagic Production Camera. I am quite sure they use BMCC. But what I am wondering is the codec they are using to shoot B-Roll in LTT, Techquickie and A-Roll in ChannelSuperFun
  10. I just found out that Supermicro makes FCBGA motherboards. They make FCBGA1440 motherboards and LGA 3647 for Xeon Phi.
