  1. This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
  2. Does anyone know the title for the video that LMG did on why screen sizes are the way they are? I remember learning about how it’s because of the size of the master sheet of glass, and they can make a certain number of screens from that one master panel, but I don’t recall the title and cannot find it on YouTube. I wanted to send it to a friend. Thanks guys for being the best forum on the planet!
  3. Anybody else's GPU's not doing anything? I have 3 computers and it seems like the GPU's stopped sometime last night...
  4. So, long story short, I got an incredible 4K monitor that does up to 144Hz (but 120 without chroma subsampling). I now need to upgrade my graphics solution. My question is, would it be better to get an RTX 2080Ti, or two RTX 2080 (maybe even supers)? I don’t know a lot about how they scale in games as I’ve never run a multi-gpu set up.
  5. That would be sad ?
  6. Apparently, somehow, there weren’t enough terrible names in the new USB spec sheet (USB 3.2 gen 2x2, really?), as USB4 will now replace thunderbolt 3 and will be royalty free. This is a huge move and is very beneficial for the tech world, as AMD chips should now be able to use one of the major advantages that was previously reserved for intel. This isn’t the worst name, but they have removed the space between “USB”, and “4.” Just why? I just hope they don’t mess it up even more later with “USB 4.1.2 gen 1.3,” for example. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/03/thunderbolt-3-becomes-usb4-as-intels-interconnect-goes-royalty-free/
  7. According to Apple Insider, Apple will is rumored to be releasing a subscription service for gaming. Now, there is not a lot known about the service currently, but it will likely be for paid games that are already on the App Store. Personally, I think this is actually a good idea. We might see developers make some decent mobile games because they won’t have to integrate ads or disadvantage people who don’t buy certain packs or loot boxes. What do you guys think? https://appleinsider.com/articles/19/02/02/apples-rumored-gaming-subscription-could-be-a-big-change-for-mobile-gaming
  8. For the record, I don't necessarily disagree. I'm trying to put in counterarguments that I would expect to be used.
  9. AMD is currently on the negative end of a class action lawsuit due to their FX processors. AMD advertised their FX processor as having 8 cores, but now the courts must decide what a "core" actually is. Unlike Ryzen, AMD's FX series had a different architecture and they have even said that with this design, they have approximately 80% of the performance of "true" 8-core processors. The argument then, is that people didn't pay for the performance of a 6-core, they paid for an 8-core. This all having been said, I personally don't think there is a whole lot to this lawsuit and I think it should be dropped. That having been said, I didn't buy one of AMD's top-of-the-line processors in 2015. What do you guys think? Links and photos below. https://www.extremetech.com/computing/284335-the-garbage-class-action-lawsuit-against-amds-bulldozer-is-headed-to-trial https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-fx-processors-lawsuit-continues,38486.html
  10. According to CNN, Ford is poised to release a hybrid AND all-electric version to their ever-popular F-150 truck lineup. It is unclear what the cost will be, as well as the individual specs. According to CNN, "Ford had previously announced it would make a hybrid version of the F-150. The all-electric truck would be in addition to that." In addition to these new vehicles, Ford also plans to add electric options for their transit vans, according to reports. What do you guys think? I feel like the instant torque of electric could be nice, but in practical use may prove to be more challenging. Also, I feel like Ford's truck demographic may not be as excited about electric vehicles as some other markets. https://amp-cnn-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/01/17/business/electric-ford-f-150/index.html?amp_js_v=0.1#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From %1%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F2019%2F01%2F17%2Fbusiness%2Felectric-ford-f-150%2Findex.html
  11. Yeah. I saw after some research that sometimes it's because someone shares a UK link and it defaults YT to that country.
  12. 1. Tea was the last straw. You can't play with us like that. 2. I live in the US and have not used my VPN for Europe on YouTube.
  13. I have YouTube Premium, and I just noticed a new "GB" in the upper left hand corner. Anyone know what this is? I tried a quick google search, but got nothing. Thoughts? EDIT: I since found out through Reddit that I am in "Great Britain" mode, and it has nothing to do with premium. I figure I'll leave this up for others with questions/ google results.
  14. In an article by Tom’s Hardware (link below), the Finnish IT Center for Science (CSC) announced a two phase plan to unveil a 200,000 core EPYC-based supercomputer. If successful, it would see up to 6.4 petaflops of peak performance and cost over $44 million USD. Assuming a conservative estimate of $4,000 USD per processor (AMD still hasn’t fully unveiled them), 12.5 million would be spent on CPU’s alone. What do you guys think? Will it run cinebench? https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-rome-supercomputer-200000-nvidia-cores,38259.html
  15. Get an air bnb. I did that this past time for $30 a night.
  16. Fair point. My first quote from your response was referring to the T2 chip in apple's iMac Pro and MacBook Pro, which in fact makes it impossible to do some repairs on your own (also what I was getting to with the gas station analogy). This is on me, because I should have been much more specific. Thanks for sharing your personal experience with your congressperson. I'd like to see this movement keep growing.
  17. I think you are going to be right, unfortunately. I think apple realized it would be too expensive for even apple to make. Qi technology only allows you to charge a single device at a time, so you need two of those, plus you'd need a magnetic charger for the apple watch. Rumors said it would have and A8 processor in it (the processor from the iPad mini and iPhone 6), so all that puts it over $200 so they can get margin.
  18. Okay, so this article is super old but I saw it and got triggered, so I have a rant. First, here's the article: https://mashable.com/2017/02/16/right-to-repair-is-ridiculous/#aeO3IZGWlkqz So first off, I don't see it as a necessity to get the parts from the original manufacturer, but it needs to be illegal to do what apple has done and make it impossible to do repairs on your own. However, after thinking about it a bit, being able to obtain OEM parts at a reasonable cost would be an incredible boost for the tech community. Imagine if you could replace your iPhone 7 screen and keep the IP67 rating. Currently, the only alternative is to buy aftermarket screens that run hot, and malfunction easily. This guy in the article drove me crazy, "Apple and Samsung aren't building these products to be repaired..." Are you serious? 1. They have replaceable parts, making them repairable. 2. They have technicians that are PAID to REPAIR them. How much more repairable can you get. Now, it can be difficult to do some DIY repairs - I get that. But just because some people have trouble with it, doesn't mean everyone shouldn't have the freedom to do it IF they want. Could you imagine buying a car and being told that you can only fill the tank at authorized stations because there's a proprietary chip that will keep the car from starting if you use another nozzle? That would be absurd, but because of the lack of knowledge of the tech space, people are under the impression that it's more difficult than it actually is to do your own repairs. Listen to this quote: "I think it’s a fair concern that Right-to-Repair laws could lead to an explosion of Radio Shack-like iPhone and Samsung electronics parts shops. Consumers will wander in with broken iPhone and Samsung Galaxy screens, and walk out with all the parts and tools they need to repair them. And they will fail, miserably." Yes, that would probably happen, and that should be the consumers right, just the same as it's your right to purchase a chainsaw and cut down a tree, when you could slip and cut off your leg. Aaannd my last quote: "Plus, what if a consumer's injured during a failed repair attempt? They slice open a finger on the cracked glass, or put it back together incorrectly, so the battery fails (and maybe even explodes). It’s the consumer’s fault, obviously, but they could also try to sue Apple or Samsung." I'd love to hear Jon from LMG on this. Using my analogy with the chainsaw, you can't sue the chainsaw manufacturer for your own mistake (or stupidity), so you couldn't sue apple for your failure of proper precautions. Right to repair is an important movement, and it would be foolish to assume that because "some people aren't good at it, it should be illegal for everyone." Stupid people logic bothers me.
  19. A new apple event is scheduled for Oct. 30th 2018. This comes after apple faced some negative publicity for the lack of products in their September event, and also after many leaks for a new iPad Pro with iPhone-like FaceID for a full screen experience. The leaks also show potential for a USB Type-C connector, which would be the first time apple has placed USB C on anything but a computer. Other potential products include a second generation of airpods, the airpower wireless charger, a new mac pro, mac mini, and a successor to the macbook air. The Verge reported the potential software releases as well: "On the software side, Apple is likely to share release details for iOS 12.1 (which features Group FaceTime and dual-SIM support) and the upcoming watchOS update that will enable the Series 4’s EKG functionality." The event will reportedly take place in Brooklyn, NY. 20. I was going to link the video and give the exact same explanation as airdeano, but he beat me to the punch. The answer is really no. If you really want to rig up something kind of "ghetto" like that, your best bet would probably be an air conditioner of some kind. That having been said, it's almost certainly really not worth bothering.
  21. It's awesome to watch him break stuff down. He really knows his stuff.
  22. I searched for this because I didn't know why I haven't seen Jon in any of the techquickie videos. I love it when he hosts techquickie. He's awesome. I hope we get to see at least a little bit of him in future videos. (CSF when he visits maybe?)
  23. Will there be any lockers for backpacks?
  24. Yep, I just had the same issue. Good luck with mitigating the attack. Please let us know the details afterwards.
