  1. @Ben Quigley Okay so I seem to have run out of GPU projects for Einstein, and now my computer is only doing the CPU ones. I have 66 of them pending transfer, do you know how to get more GPU tasks?
  2. This only took a couple of hours, I am really interested to see how many I have after a couple of days. The only downside is that I switched to a 6700k for my main system, and since I lost the intel bracket for my liquid cooler, it's just pinned at 100 degrees. Now I'm no expert, but that doesn't seem to be sustainable in the long run. Anyway, I'm on it @Ben Quigley.
  3. I'm currently running NFS@home, but it seems to be only using CPU. Should I lower the CPU power a bit to leave some headroom for einstein@home?
  4. I updated the board to the newest BIOS, and it picked it right up. I don’t know what was wrong with my old one, but it works fine now.
  5. Hello everyone, I recently got my hands on a Z170-A from ASUS and a 6700k, so I decided to upgrade my current PC with the new stuff (I am aware about reinstalling windows). I put my Intel 530s series SSD in the slot, and lo an behold... nothing. Even restarting the motherboard, removing all of the other SATA connections, and reinstalling the SSD did not help. That's why I'm here, to see if any of you know how to fix the motherboard not detecting the SSD. Thanks for reading.
  6. If you're in the US, those stickers mean nothing, and you should have no problems. I haven't tried using PNY specifically for any RMAs, but the FTC's ruling should back you up if they refuse.
  7. Creeping ever closer to that 100M number, have to get that gold badge sometime. Who would've known that a 1080 at 50% power is insanely efficient, with the performance of a 1070 while only using 90W.
  8. I just realized that most of my signature is in white text, which is essentially invisible on light theme. Bummer.

  9. First, I would make sure that the buzzing is coming from the PSU and not the graphics card, which can also buzz while under load. If it's the PSU, I can't recommend specifics, but I'll link the PSU tier list below to help you decide on a new one. $100 should be able to get you a pretty nice power supply in one of the top few tiers.
  10. Try limiting your FPS in games to your monitor's refresh rate to reduce load, or try and lower the power limit of the card a bit. Even my system (RM850 and GTX 1080) buzzes a bit when there is an easy-to-run game but it's at full load trying to push 300FPS on a 144hz monitor.
  11. If you have 2 cards in SLI, the card that is at the top or the one with fans facing the back of the other one has less access to air. This, combined with the increased temperature of the air because of the second card, causes one card to be slightly hotter than the other.
  12. I used a GTX 280 for a while when my 1070Ti crapped out, and I was actually surprised by how little fan noise it made. I use it as a backup/test card now.
  13. Wow, you're right. Sorry about that. OP, try turning off indexing the drive as stated by @knightslugger, and if that's still too slow, I would look into an SSD.
  14. Total capacity is 488GB. I'm just going to assume it's a 500GB drive.
  15. 500 gig drive? if you really want to speed it up, grab an ssd and copy that data over. It's about a $70 upgrade, but it makes a huge difference in the usability of the device.
  16. R5 1400 here... It works alright in games and such, but since I've got a 1080 it's a pretty big bottleneck. Going to replace this garbage mobo and CPU when 3rd gen ryzen comes out.
  17. I just took a picture of the card and drew the arrows in.
  18. Huh. The back of the 4GB is different from the 2GB I guess, as mine has an additional row of caps at the bottom where 2 of them are missing. I'll see if I can find the back of this card. It's the first revision, so the model is GV-N760-4GD REV:1.0
  19. Yes, that is the exact model apart from mine is the 4GB model. The caps are all on the back, sadly. I looked on the front and everything seemed to be fine, just three on the back.
  20. I know what you mean, but no, I don't have the capacitors that fell off. The reason that I suspect it was dropped was the bent cooler and the pads that looked like they had capacitors attached and then broken off.
  21. Yes, I'm aware that the capacitors can have wildly different capacities and aren't really dependent on size, but I had to try something. do you know of any way to get those values? I very much doubt that gigabyte is going to just hand over parts of their schematic, even if it's an old card.
  22. I got the card with the caps gone, I just used capacitors that look similar to them to replace them. Sorry, I should have cleared that up.
  23. Hello, I recently bought a couple of dead graphics cards (7970 Vapor-x and 760 Windforce OC) for the coolers, but realized that fixing them was possible. I managed to get the 7970 working after re-soldering some transistors that had come loose, but the 760 has a different problem. It seems to have been dropped, and 3 capacitors look to have broken off. I took some similar looking ones from a broken 7950 and soldered them on to no avail. The system gives me no video bios (basically no card detected) and does not POST. Is there any way to get a schematic of the board or to find replacement capacitors? I'm currently in the process of contacting Gigabyte, but I doubt they'll give me that info. Thank you for reading.
  24. You had me at desktop replacement, and you lost me at i9-9900K. Just take a look at the coolers required to cool that thing. Paired with the RTX 2080, which also runs really hot, you get a massive amount of heat and not a lot of room to get rid of it. Those poor things never had a chance.
  25. You could try and push that thing down and hot glue it, but it might still be a bad connection.
