Pop OS update: i'm in the middle of configuring it but i already have various things about it that i don't like:

  • the installer failed 4 times
  • the drivers for my wifi card didn't install, and doign so manually required the installation of a tool that's normally included in Ubuntu but that i had to manually install here
  • kdenlive doesn't show up in the software center, i had to install it from the terminal

    @Chunchunmaru_ yup it's broadcom.

    Network controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 02)

    if you are using brcwl-kernel-source you are using wl (proprietary) otherwise it's using b43 (open source), so I don't know what popos uses by default

    If you don't want to reboot every time, just sudo rmmod wl or rmmod b43, then modprobe b43 or wl

    You remove the driver by just deleting the packages and reloading the module

    @Chunchunmaru_ yeah i already got it installed. i had to manually install the driver manager though lol.

    Strangely enough cases where the broadcom proprietary driver is worse than the open source one are rare as hell...

    So you are using b43 now? You just had to remove the driver instead from the driver manager, or the package

    @Chunchunmaru_ no i'm using wl. i need to because on b43 i have issues on the school wifi for some reason.

    It should have worked out the box then wtf...

    Or actually the kernel just got updated and you didn't reboot? Since dkms rebuild the kernel module for every update
