I think I found a bug in the strix b550-f...
 
I just finished upgrading my desktop, right? everything fine, cpu registers and runs fast (see cinebench above), gpu works, great. Then I tried to update the bios. I didn't notice I had the non-wifi version of the bios so obviously the utility wouldn't let me flash it. Whatever, I just reset... except the system wouldn't post anymore.
 
from the motherboard lights it seemed like it was waiting for the GPU to turn on but the gpu's lights weren't turning on.
 

Ater an hour of trying CMOS resets, reseating the GPU, different PCIE slots, removing cables I thought the GPU had randomly died (which would have sucked considering it was pretty expensive and I didn't want to upgrade yet).

 
I get the spare HD4370 and THAT posts... so I'm ready to cry over the dead fury but just out of desperation I plug it back in and guess what, now it works.
 

Then I updated the BIOS with the correct file and it happened again in the exact same way.

 

I wonder if it happened to other people... I mean, what if I didn't have an extra GPU around? would I just have to RMA the motherboard?

 

@Den-Fi do you have a strix b550 to test?

    Wouldn't be the first time on an ASUS board XD.

     

    Since you've a board with BIOS flashback you're pretty much covered if you flash the wrong BIOS. Just throw the correct BIOS on a USB, insert it into the correct ports, hold the button and give it 5 minutes to do the thing.

    Yeah but... I'm pretty sure it wasn't the flash that caused the issue, after all the first time I didn't actually flash anything (the utility wouldn't let me do it)

     

    It might have something to do with the flashing utility itself since I opened it both times this happened, though I opened it other times and it worked fine...
