  1. Actually, this is not entirely true. Most 480/580 4GB variants shipped with a lower memory clock of 1750MHz compared to the 8GB variants usually having a 2000MHz memory clock. It may not be huge, but it is a downgrade. I do agree with your overall sentiment that green team is the worse offender in this area, though.
  2. Even well managed, diabetes can wreck your body over time. I'm doing everything in my power to avoid complications in the long term. Finger poking is something I genuinely cannot stand, though, so I generally use the tops of my arm for drawing blood to check my glucose levels. I've been advised that blood circulation is lower in these areas, so readings could be a bit off and it is definitely harder to get enough blood, but the results seem to be accurate enough. Besides that, I use a continuous glucose monitoring solution and an insulin pump so I don't have to poke myself very often. That comes with the problem of having two (potentially irritating and painful) devices slapped onto your body for multiple days straight, though. So yeah, to answer the question, I don't poke my fingers and instead prick myself in other places when necessary and otherwise constantly wear devices to help me manage my condition. If I had to, though, I would because it beats the alternative of slowly dying a terrible death.
  3. I'm far enough inland that only the outermost parts of the hurricane reached me, and even then it was only a little bit of rain. We had a really bad storm here something like 8 years ago that threw trampolines across the neighborhood, destroyed a ton of roofs, and knocked over our fence. From what I've read, that storm was nothing compared to Harvey. I can't imagine what kind of destruction people are dealing with near the coast.
  4. Windows 7 didn't really feel old to me until I thought about how Vista is going to get cut off soon. I guess that's what I'm taking away from this.
  5. This isn't the worst thing Microsoft has done, but it is another log on the fire. I'm predicting a fully fledged bonfire by 2020.
  6. Whether or not this is true doesn't change the fact that AMD has in fact claimed it will have a base clock of 3.4 GHz. Please don't spread misinformation, especially if you know better. That said, I'll be disappointed if they can't deliver this among all of their promises, but AMD is quite deeply in the territory of "wait and see" due to their track record.
  7. +1 survey form for you. Reminds me of a thing I did in high school once, except I think it was about speech class curriculum or something.
  8. I'm going to say right now that pretty much any PSU advertising a 280 watt output is a piece of junk. While the RX 470 is a great card for the price, you said that you don't care too much about having high end settings, so if you want to save money, GTX 750 Ti to GTX 1050 Ti range is a much better spot to be looking. I'd be scared to swap out an R7 240 with anything more power intensive, though, without changing the power supply out, as even something like the 750 Ti might be too much if your unit has some seriously low quality parts. Frying your brand new card (or possibly the entire computer) because your power supply failed catastrophically would probably ruin more than just your day. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't mess around with that power supply if I were in your position. Form factor is also a consideration. Does your card need to be low profile? Single slot?
  9. I'm running a fairly old build with a Radeon HD 6850 in it. Having a Phenom II x6 1100T currently, most of my PC's bottlenecks come from running this card. It has served me well, but a replacement is necessary going forward, be it in my next build or in my current one, so what better way to upgrade from an AMD card than with another AMD card?
