  1. Maybe Luke could use some more help with Floatplane Media or Riley could get his own channel on there if it does well enough. Maybe Riley could off-set losing two key established people recently Luke spending all his time on Floatplane and Nick Van Berkel apparently not getting the job with the bicycle company he mentioned on wan show since he seems to be freelancing now. The WAN show and the vlogs and general feel have changed now around there. I know in time Maxine and the other new people like Tyler Ivan etcetera will grow into their roles, but there is something to be said for a veteran who knows what he's doing too. At the same time, if he went there now, there would likely be conflict of interest issues, potential lawsuits, and maybe he just isn't a good fit for Linus' team personality wise or might conflict too much with Linus, and Linus is getting too much blowback/pushback from his employees/staff this year as it is, it honestly seems to me as a viewer like they don't appreciate him anymore or don't appreciate being there and what he does to keep everything up and running and all of them still getting steady work/paychecks doing something enjoyable. Since Linus the man who did a youtube series called honest answers disclosing all his companies' major sources of revenue and all kinds of details about how his business is run that most companies hold close to their chests and never show anyone except if they have to show an accountant or regulatory body, since he gave a very polite non answer to someone enquiring about if wan show was an interview brushing them off and deflecting the question, that means he either isn't interested in having that conversation or can't currently have that kind of conversation for one reason or another, or could be both of those things.
  2. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/microsoft-tests-payments-api-164400544.html didn't know what microsoft wallet was so had to look it up... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wallet looks like something like the apple or exxon mobil rfid tap here to pay things, so not sure how a api for website developers has anything to do with it, are you supposed to tap your phone to your laptop or desktop somehow or what? lol. would be nice though because if it becomes a thing maybe ltt can use it and i can finally get floatplane club access.
  3. also, just read this somewhat related article: http://www.techrepublic.com/article/google-fiber-pivots-what-it-means-for-the-future-of-gigabit-internet/ it says new advances can make existing/legacy copper twisted pair reach 8gbps potentially. and copper is generally easier to install work with and cheaper to produce and install then fiber optic cabling i've always been told.. so will be interesting when Google unpauses if they continue with fiber optic or go with wireless or twisted pair.
  4. Just stumbled on this article. http://www.zdnet.com/article/think-google-fibers-fast-nokia-to-show-off-tech-thats-1000-times-faster/ nice to see that back bone and under sea cables could be going up to this in future helping drive down costs and incentivize construction for Google Fiber, Verizon FIOS, and others looking to bring Fiber To The Home and Gigabit networks to the home.
  5. Disclaimer: I own no stocks bonds or mutual funds at all, i just thought this article was interesting and wanted to share it here. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/nvidia-the-yahoo-finance-company-of-the-year-173130275.html This just blew me away. Nvidia revenue apparently grew 11 fold between 2000 and 2008 before the USA Recession hit that year, and then has apparently Tripled in just the past year or so. Apparantly Gaming is now a $100 Billion dollar a year industry with $27 Billion of that being in PCs. Self Driving Cars the article proposes could be a $40 billion a year industry within the next decade ((i personally doubt this, most people i've ever met enjoy driving and wouldn't ever want a computer to drive for them entirely, i still remember the controversy over Anti-Lock Brake Systems that lead consumers to push car manufacturers to make some cars without it for a few more years past the original change over and push them to make ABS able to be turned off/disabled if the customer didn't want it.)) ----------------------------------------------------- Excerpt: " Room to run Is Nvidia a bubble? Wall Street doesn’t think so. Even with the stock up 193% so far this year, 28 analysts surveyed by S&P Capital IQ predict the stock will outperform, on average, during the next 12 months. S&P forecasts that revenue will grow another 29% during the next two years, with the profit margin rising to 25%, which would be higher than Apple’s current margin. No wonder the popular refrain among investors following the company is that Nvidia is the next Intel. " ------------------------------------------------------- so 28 analysts still despite all the stock price growth think Nvidia will Outperform the markets indices like the Dow Jones Industrial Average, & the Standard & Poors 500 Index of the top 500 companies. Outperform is almost never listed on a stock as analysts are usually far too conservative to back a stock that strongly. for 28 of them to say that says something in my view and is amazing. --------------------- Excerpt: "The overall mix of the large-and-still-growing businesses, with key investments in the most fertile technologies of the future, explains why investors love the company. “The gaming business provides the scale,” says Wang of ARK Invest. “If a 5-person startup did this, it would be very costly. Because Nvidia sells tens of millions of gaming GPUs every year, they have the gaming business to subsidize the whole effort. It’s kind of like Google has its search business subsidizing the whole rest of the company.”" -------------------------------- It states Intel is trying Acquisition strategy to get its hands on AI tech, that AMD is trying to invest more in its graphics division from the ATI acquisition to try to catch up, that Facebook & Google/Alphabet are trying to in-house develop AI to avoid future dependency on Nvidia, and they forgot to mention things like how Microsoft created FGPA(Field Gate Programmable Array) chips for its Azure Cloud Data Centers instead of relying on Nvidia chips for that purpose. The article emphasizes though that Nvidia is "First-Mover" ((basically first major company to get to market with a product)) in most of the categories the article mentions, and that the overall markets are growing faster then the competition and everyone else is still playing catch-up. Personal Opinion if anyone catches up to Nvidia it will be Microsoft and IBM... IBM has had Watson for years now and took the lead in developing Quantum Computing while most other major businesses were still saying it wasn't possible at all or wouldnt be for 10-20 more years..... and Microsoft has literally bet the entire company on Xbox, Cortana, AI, Windows 10, Azure, & Cloud Computing... trying to become a services company like IBM already did when IBM sold off the PC business to Lenovo a while ago. Accountants Lawyers & Doctors make more money then Manufacturing Workers... anything intangible or services related generally has more revenue potential because its harder to quantify something intangible like a service being rendered/provided to you, and usually has less overhead as well allowing for greater then usual profit margin potential. More importantly.... Microsoft & IBM are finally talking to each other and collaborating again after splitting over the Windows NT & IBM OS/2 issues they had between them. As big as Google & Facebook & Apple have become, and with all the hardware production shifted to Lenovo Dell Hewlett-Packard and others, IBM & Microsoft can partner all they want now or even merge if they really wanted too without being a monopoly since markets are so globalized now and both of them have exited a lot of their former business ventures. I don't think they will ever merge or want to merge, but i think they finally saw about 3-5 years ago the threat posed by Google and Facebook, and that what we are seeing now from them is them beginning to adapt and respond to it ((it generally takes enterprise scale organizations 5-10 years to react to something like Google's sudden and meteoric rise if they can't manage to squash something like Google before it gets off the ground)) as i think they realized they were in danger of being made legacy companies and their funding sources slowly evaporating if that were to happen. ((perception can be reality, banks and lenders have been known to ruin incredibly successful corporations just because they perceived them to be old or legacy or no longer as profitable, even if those companies still actually had decades of revenue generation left in them...banks and investors tend to want money now rather then later, so if they think Google would make them 100 dollars now while Microsoft would make them 50 now and 500 in the next 2-3 years they would be likely to go with google in many cases... Disclaimer: extremely over simplified example.)) So yes if anyone catches Nvidia i think it would be IBM & Microsoft, possibly with Intel as a third partner. Anyway, mainly i just liked this article for the history it provided about Nvidia as i don't really know anything much about them or the graphics card industry in general, and i liked the additional information the article gave about what Nvidia is up to/working on besides gaming, and that they seem to be using the gaming revenue for good purposes and for growing the company rather then stuffing their products... and the article caught my attention because it isn't every day a graphics card company i considered to be an obscure company that i really knew nothing about til LTT got me interested in it and interested in technology in general again, wins a company of the year award from someone like Yahoo Finance or CBS Market Watch, the two primary Mainstream sources for USA consumers to begin learning about economics and the stock market. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo was built on 3 Pillars, Search, E-mail, & Finance essentially... Their search engine was better then AskJeeves, Lycos, Microsoft/MSN, or any of the other myriad competitors until Google came along and even then at first it was still on par with Google for the first 3-5 years and better at some types of searches... when everyone gave up on MSN search but many were still subscribed to the MSN service, Microsoft even brought in Yahoo to power their search to give MSN a shot in the arm/lifeline to keep it going and buoyed for a few more years...they were considering Google as a search provider at the same time but went with Yahoo because of some fundamental disagreements with the way Google is and because that was right at the time Google was growing so fast that it had become a threat to Microsoft, while Yahoo & Microsoft have always operated in different complimentary spaces. Their E-mail was the first E-mail many people ever signed up for as most e-mail at the time was tied to a school business governmental entity library and would only be allowed to be used while you were affiliated with the issuing organization etcetera and there was still talk at the time about nationalizing e-mail and putting it underneath the United States Post Office purview to give it a shot in the arm financially....thank the Clinton Administration for their preventing this from happening... as free global internet was a major tenet for Mr. Clinton and especially Mr. Gore....Yahoo's email was really the first true national/global E-mail service the public responded well to, and it came at just the right time when having an E-mail account became a requirement to use many of the sites on the internet. Yahoo Finance though is a large part of why Yahoo Still exists... Yahoo has always strived to have an exceptional News department and superb Finance department... & because it was free while nearly every other economics learning tool at the time was a paid service...schools quickly picked up on it to allow them to start offering basic economics and stock market lessons to more students...at the time in the late 90s/early 2000s CBS Market Watch was still partly a paid service and if you wanted to look up more then a couple stock ticker symbols or get more information about the company other hten just the current share price you had to be a paid member... This gave Yahoo Finance a huge market-leading position in Economics Education and Consumer Financial Information. To many people Yahoo Finance is as well-respected as the Wall Street Journal and CNBC. Plus Yahoo Finance has always been focused more to consumers and low and middle classes, and it brought to bear alot of graphs charts and statistical resources that were expensive to have or have access to up until that time that it was able to bring to bear because of being a web/technology company. Yahoo Search has always just been the thing to drive revenue and pull people in and get advertisers to sign up and support the other services... people stayed because of Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Email, News, the old Yahoo Music Service, and more niche things like GeoCities and what-not. Yahoo was also always designed to be a community with a member directory and the like.. another big part of Yahoo's success was the fact they've always prided themselves on being a kid-friendly and family friendly company. For years Yahoo's only competition as a homepage/web presence was America On-Line, which was never able to really seriously compete with what Yahoo has always offered. the Two things that hurt Yahoo were Google's sudden rise that Yahoo was caught blindsided by and didn't have the managerial talent in place to properly mitigate it or respond to it as the scope of things Google was doing and wanted to do was beyond Yahoo's dreams and aspirations plus Google had massive funding under it from the get-go while Yahoo had always struggled to obtain mainstream investor/bank funding as they never saw potential in Yahoo. so you can imagine when Google came along offering less then what Yahoo had already in place and was able to obtain the kind of funding Yahoo had always dreamed about but never had. the second thing after Google that hurt Yahoo was President Obama declaring during the 2008 Presidential Campaign that he used his BlackBerry & a Yahoo E-mail account because both were more secure then the accounts the Government wanted him to start using, and at one point he even pretty much dared people to hack his Yahoo E-mail. Needless to say, from that point on, Yahoo which was really never seen as a hacking target much before that point and was always liked and well respected by most people online that i ever came across and everyone always thought hacking Yahoo just would have been a pointless waste of time...well after the future POTUSA said those remarks... Yahoo has had security breaches and Issues ever since... & you know Yahoo is a successful company because the two biggest hacks they've reported as a result of the Verizon buy-out...the first one was 500 million accounts breached, the second one was 1 billion accounts breached... Can you imagine how much Microsoft would pay to have a billion Xbox Live Accounts? how much Time Warner Cable now owned by Charter Communications would pay to have a billion cable subscribers? I don't think Windows 10 is even on 1 billion computers yet but over 1 billion yahoo accounts exist.... Most companies would kill to have that kind of reach/subscriber base, but yet Yahoo has it and has trouble getting funding and gets scoffed at... All Yahoo has needed is better leadership to keep it innovating and going and to continue to differentiate it from Google and continue to focus on being a source of information for consumers and information hub etcetera.... Yahoo & Wikipedia would have been a perfect match except for Wikipedia insisting it will never be bought out by another company. Yahoo Verizon Intel IBM & Microsoft have a lot of synergy.... give me an IBM & Microsoft designed set of computing devices Desktop Laptop & Phone/Tablet, with Verizon Calling and Internet on all of them Windows 10 on all of them, Yahoo Search and News on all of them, Powered by Intel Cpu & Nvidia Gpu technology, & Google Chrome or something comparable as the default browser and i would be very happy/elated. to have everything just work out of the box. ideally it would have Webster's Dictionary and Encyclopedia Britannica built in and a Wikipedia App built in. Xbox App and Xbox music built-in. anyway didnt mean to get off on such a tangent... ------------------------------------------------------------- Just really caught my attention and impressed me and i was like "hey that's the company LTT talks about all the time getting an award from Yahoo Finance!" kind of thing.

The glut and flooding of the market of Graphics Cards continues.... http://wccftech.com/nvidia-pascal-volta-gpu-leaked-2017-2018/ Allegedly either a Nvidia "Pascal" refresh is coming very soon or "Volta" architecture is being pushed up to 2017 instead of coming out in 2018 to compete with something called "Vega" from AMD that is allegedly launching alongside the "Zen" cpus from AMD in January... Allegedly the Geforce GTX 2070 card is going to have specs that look somewhat similar to the current GTX 1080 for a MSRP of $349 USD, or $30 USD lower then what the GTX 1070 finally came down to with its MSRP being $379.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a feeling i know why we are seeing this glut of CPUS & GPUS lately.... I think they are trying to make a SkyLake or KabyLake Cpu the new Mass Market Standard going forward and push everyone to upgrade to that and stop using Broadwell Maxwell and older cpus.... and with the specs on Project Scorpio being so similar from what i've read to a gaming computer with a gtx 970 slotted in it... and with Nvidia saying that is the base card of theirs for a "VR-Ready" experience/rig.... i have a feeling that the 700 series GTX cards everyone seems so fond of on all the websites i read won't be up to snuff for much longer.... and just like how with the Arrival of Windows 10 and all these new technologies Second Life was forced to finally drop support for Windows XP and Windows Vista and is teetering on dropping support for Windows 7 in the next year or two, i think they will be forced to update their system requirements that currently state 200 series GTX/GTS cards are all that is required... i've seen articles saying Windows 10 is required for some things with some things requiring the latest current public release build of Windows 10 even, i've seen articles lately saying the not even out yet Kaby Lake cpus are going to be required to run some things...i've seen articles saying the support life cycles for Windows 7 and Windows 8 are being cut short or already have been... Windows 10 Anniversary Update is declared Current Branch for Business by Microsoft for Enterprise Customers just in the past week or two... Microsoft has joined IBM & Google/Alphabet in a huge forward push for Cloud Computer, Artificial Intelligence, & Quantum Computing... it has joined up with a lot of its tech industry competitors to form groups for promoting and advancing various technologies... it is trying to compete with Amazon's Echo speaker now with a forthcoming "Home Hub" feature update to Cortana, with Cortana being made available for Internet of Things Devices now as long as they have some kind of display screen... It just seems to me like we are on the edge of a major generational change in computing and gaming where all the major tech industry players from Nintendo to Xbox to Microsoft are trying to change things up and make what 2-3 years ago was considered a moderate to very high end experience become consider the basic computing/gaming experience going forward... 8. Thank you for the update. i don't really mind typing in my card info, google forms has it saved in chrome so i just start typing the info in and it auto-completes, but even if the browser didn't do that it isnt much longer to actually get the card out of my wallet and type the information in, not something i really mind. having tons of accounts i mind.. i already have a forum user account i had to register for and a credit union account savings and checking, paypal is just an extra step and account for no real reason. i can with draw cash and pay cash, i can write checks, and for online stuff i can use the card since its also a visa card, and if none of those options work my credit union has a bill pay service where they can pay the payee directly or cut them a check. that service can even be set up to where i enter in a payee information say Linus Media Group and the billing address of Linus Media group and how much i want to pay and set it as a one time or recurring payment, and then the service generates a secure link i could send to Linus Media Group and neither side ever sees the other's information the money only flows one direction and i can set it up as a recurring payment or one-time payment either way. so i really don't have a need for paypal or even know why anyone has one unless they aren't elligible to have a checking account/bank/credit union account or their bank doesnt have credit/debit cards that can be used online and so they have to use paypal as a substitute. i don't even mind paypal being used as a payment method or payment processing vendor.. some of the online games i used to play would list paypal as an option to choose or say that paypal was who was actually processing the payments for them even though it said it was going through some other payment vendor ostensibly.. i just don't see the need to have to log into paypal. and yeah i'm surprised too, didn't think it would be a long term process to set up when everyone advertises card readers for fitness trainers to accept card payments in the park, cell phones or tablet devices equipped with card readers, guardtrax type units for tracking security guard patrols among other uses that sometimes also come with card readers for clients to immediately pay for their guard services without having to invoice and bill and negotiate payment terms and the guard company have to pay the guards now and then wait 30-90 days to receive payment from the client, just swipe and done... wouldn't think it would end up being difficult to accept payments online... especially since in the video that just went up today on youtube a sponsor on it is something called braintree that says it helps websites nad businesses accept cards apple pay android pay anything you can think of by the looks of it, lol. but yeah if i end up having to i will bite the bullet and just register for paypal even though i really don't want to, i even use the windows 10 mail up so that my msn/microsoft account email my original yahoo email and the two newer gmail addresses i use for second life and video game stuff all go to the same place for convenient reading and organization just would be nicer to be able to pay with a card like i do at amazon or second life or any other website i've came accross really that has had an online store. LTT is the first one i've ever came across that you can't pay with a credit card and the only option to pay the site is paypal so was just surprised. thank you again for the update/reply. maybe someday techquickie could do a video on how websites/web-based businesses typically get paid or something? all i know is that its some combination of 128 bit encryption, secure sockets layers, https: capable websites, and visa american express or some 3rd party like paypal handling the actual transactions... and that transactions under a certain amount either can't be done or cost too much to be feasible bc the payment processer/vendor deems them "microtransactions" where the cost of processing the transaction is higher then the amount being transacted.
  9. Thank you for the reply, wasn't really expecting post to even be seen much less replied to. Visa would be nice if possible. Is there a mailing list here somewhere like the email I received said to sign up for to receive future updates? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh & while I'm here, loved the recent video featuring both you and Brandon about the Cannon Camera, in my view Brandon should be featured more, he came across very likable and quite professional and you could tell he was interested in the content and it made the video very enjoyable to watch even though i'm not a big camera person/fan usually and don't take many pictures. I also liked the Nerf Cannon video, and your video about the GPD Win Device. Though it's extremely annoying that little device could play all those games while my 3 year old Lenovo Ideapad N580 laptop can't even launch Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel something a friend talked me into trying to play, and doesn't even met the specifications for standard simple mmo games like Guild Wars 2 or Cabal 2. I tried running Cinebench on it a few weeks ago or so and only one of the two tests would even run on it. It just is aggravating that these days tiny devices i consider nothing but toys like that device or a tablet or smart phone are being made with seemingly better specifications then actual laptops and desktops. So glad i finally have a decent quality desktop now. Going to need to upgrade it i'm sure with a graphics card since it only has Intel HD 530 Graphics, but its 16gb of 2133mhz ddr4 ram and 4 core 8 thread i7 6700 cpu is already helping a lot compared to the Pentium B960 2 core 2 thread cpu in the laptop, and the "Intel Integrated Graphics" that don't even have a version number in sysinfo msconfig or device manager. Hoping to eventually put a GTX 1070 in the desktop if possible. It's an HP ENVY 750-437cb tower with HP Motherboard ID:828A. I went to the HP forums other day and found someone else already asked if the motherboard could handle a graphics card upgrade...all the other users there were able to dig up in response eventually was an internal hp document detailing possible configurations of that tower before the product was finalized and sent to market, and it didn't really answer the question of whether it was up-gradable or not...well except for the fact every configuration only listed a 300 watt power supply, so i'm guessing the power supply would need upgraded as well since every configuration i've put together on pcpartpicker.com with that kind of graphics card seems to need 450-550 watt psus. Oh, I found the link... http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=X6F91AA it says the motherboard is this: "PC Board 862992-601Motherboard - Odense2, Intel Skylake, H170, WIN" still may as well be in greek for all it helps...when i tried googling it it just tells me its an HP manufactured board and couldn't really find anything else about it ----------------------- Edit: just tested desktop on cinebench.... 55.03fps in Open GL test, 809Cinebench Score for Cpu Test...no idea if those are any good, but system requirements lab still says i can't run guildwars 2 because of not meeting the minimum requirements... due to this "Dedicated Video RAM256 MB128.0 MB" lol...only having half the required "Dedicated Video RAM" at least its more then the 32mb of that spec my laptop has, lol, not that it helps anything.
  10. Okay, i've been trying to join this thing on a yearly membership option since it was announced and made available, but every time i get to check out instead of bringing up a screen to enter my card info its bringing up a log in screen for pay pal which is something i've never needed, don't have, and don't want to ever need or have. how do i check out just with my card info like on vessel when i signed up for that? if that isn't workable then can i send you a check in the mail or a secure log in link to my credit union after i set up Linus Media Group as a payee to have them pay you directly? i really want to join float plane and support you, i was subscribed on Vessel, i'm subscribed on Twitch, the only channel i'm subscribed to on Twitch, but i really don't want to have to make a pay pal account/login for no reason. Also the manual update email i received because i was signed up on your google form on November 28th, says that i need to sign up for a mailing list here on the forums to receive future updates... but i don't see a mailing list link anywhere here on the forums and typing mailing list into the search feature didn't bring up anything official/relevant. So how do i sign up for the mailing list? Also, thank you for putting this together, the streaming platform you announced on the most recent wan show to replace the cobbled together downloading system sounds amazing so far.
