  1. @bob345 I don't have photo at the moment, but just wanted to say I really like the shot. I like the aspect ratio, the layers of color and placement of the tree and shadow. Nicely done!!
  2. Need a slider? On a budget? Just need a laugh (near the end of the video @ 7:07-07:51)? Check out this video by Film Riot: https://youtu.be/fR_-R2bS9ag It is a DYI device, so I wouldn't use this thing if clients are present as it wouldn't look professional, but if its just you and your buddies this should just be just fine... There is also the Edelkrone slider: https://www.edelkrone.com/p/138/slider-plus# or Pocket skater: https://www.edelkrone.com/p/469/pocket-skater-2 I've never use either of these, but they may be up your alley...
  3. The lighting in the photo could use a bit of work. At the very least I would have cropped the bright area (flash reflection). There is a little bit of flare at the top, but I don't mind it. I do like the lines that you have going on in the pic. The capacitors and ram give it a bit of symmetry, I think I may need a bit of straightening though. There is another thread that you could have posted it this in, btw. It's the rate my photo thread. Lots of cool photos there and helpful guys/gals.
  4. I have a M3 and a M6. On the M3, when I want to shoot my Voigtlander 35mm 1.4, I just use the whole viewfinder. That seems to work for me. That said, I've always wanted a black paint M2....
  5. Have you considered buying used? If you are located in the US check out KEH.com. They tend to have good deals and their grading system is fairly conservative. Would you be able to hold off until you get more cash or do you need to buy a camera right away? If you can, I would suggest waiting until you can purchase what you want instead of buying something now then buying what you really want later down the road.
  6. I would include (variable) ND filters for long exposure shots.
  7. I agree, I'd avoid filters unless the challenge asks for it.
  8. I bought the bmpcc earlier this year. By then, all of the firmware updates had been released that addressed some major issues that the camera had. I'm pretty happy with it. I use the camera for personal stuff. I use Nikon mount lenses via the metabones speed booster. The files come out pretty flat, but I'm having fun learning about color correcting and the dynamic range of the sensor always makes me smile. The lens I have on there at the moment is a voigtlander 20mm f/3.5 with a vari ND.One thing.... I wish that I could delete individual files.... Right now I can only format the SD card and not selectively delete files... All or nothing....
  9. I think this is a great idea! I know some photo websites have: 1. Weekly challenges 2. 14 day challenges 3. Monthly challenges Weekly challenges may be a bit tough to contribute regularly. Monthly challenges are easier to join but there are alot of photos to judge at the end of the month. Would the voting be open to everyone, or would there be a judging panel or person?
  10. I have a BM Pocket Camera and I'm hoping that they continue to support it. It's looking like they will as the Micro seems be using the same sensor.
  11. How much is your budget? That will determine what to recommend.
  12. These are meant for two totally different uses. When you need a tripod, a monopod won't cut it... Monopods have their place, but they cannot replace a tripod when the situation calls for one... For example, taking photos on a slope or hill. Or taking photos in a moving water like a stream or river. Or taking photos where the ground is uneven.... I would choose a tripod over a monopod anyday...
  13. I would, but I just don't take enough photo of a high enough quality in my opinion. It would be cool though to see a photo I took in some magazine ad or something.
  14. This one needs some work as you already know With long exposure photography, you are naturally going to get blurred photos, especially since you are taking photos of moving objects. Did you use a cable release or use the timer to fire the shutter? That would get rid of any initial camera shake. It looks like you've started to capture some star trails but then ended the exposure. It would have been cool if you kept the shutter open longer. A foreground element would have been cool too (example: treeline or cityscape). Looking forward to seeing what you shoot next. My photo of a film camera (Leica M3) taken by another film camera (500CM)...
  15. Have you considered the Sigma 18-35mm? It has received great reviews. It is a crop lens however, so of you plan on going full frame in the near future or need the 36mm-70mm range, then this lens may not be for you.
  16. What body will you be using it on? Full frame or crop?
  17. Don't forget to post your own photo for the next guy to rate. Otherwise the flow of this gets messed up and some people's contributions get missed.
  18. Again, it really depends on what you need. If you need the best image quality, you probably shouldn't skimp on your tripod. If you don't care for IQ and just need quick shots, or if you think a "better" tripod won't benefit you, stick with what you have.
  19. I always refer to this article by on the Strobist website: http://strobist.blogspot.ca/2014/09/choosing-tripod.html Good Tripods aren't cheap and cheap tripods aren't good.... A quality tripod will be made of quality material that will reduce vibrations. Important especially for longer exposures, you want the tripod to be as stable as possible. The tripod should be rated for the weight that you need it to carry. A lot of the cheaper tripods are only good for lighter gear and will not hold the weight of a pro camera and lens. A good tripod will have a reliable leg locking mechanism. The last thing you want is for your legs to collapse under the weight of your gear or due to mechanical failure. The warranty is usually better with quality tripods. If you want a light but stable tripod, you will most likely have to pay more. A tripod can be TWO of the following, but rarely all three: CHEAP, LIGHT, STABLE Its up to you to decide what you need in a tripod. I have two tripods. I have a small carbon fiber Gitzo tripod that I take on hikes. It is relatively small, very light but was pretty expensive. It holds the gear that I typically take with me when I hit the trails or travel. My second tripod is an aluminum Manfrotto that can hold anything I throw at it, was a lot cheaper than my Gitzo but is big and somewhat heavy. I use it for planned shoots.
  20. Nice, sharp image! i like the detail you were able to capture. 9/10 My image taken with a Mamiya 645, 80mm at f/1.9. I wish the plant was a lot sharper. I think the film was either Tri-x or HP5.
  21. My advice would be to try and hold each camera in person. The x100t does look nice, but it may feel uncomfortable in hand or another camera may feel better. The image quality is superb. Any IQ issues are most likely due to user error than the sensor or lens. I personally doubt you'll be able to tell the difference between x100t and Sony a6000.
  22. @wcreek I have a X100T and I love the camera. That said, I am used to shooting range finders and the X100T feels very similar. You will be stuck with just one focal length, 35mm, unless you get the lens adaptors. The ergonomics are great for me and the image quality is great. The sensor is aps-c, so achieving shallow depth of field is relatively easy. I haven't used the video as I have a Black Magic pocket camera for that... If you need the ability to switch lenses, the x100t may not be for you. Hardware Canucks just recently released a review on you tube that you should watch if you haven't already.
  23. The mall by my place has just lost two of thier anchor stores... Target and Future Shop. There is a best buy across the street, so I wonder what will replace them? I do most of my tech shopping online or at the NCIX down the street, but I feel bad for all of the employees that depended on those jobs... Good luck to any forum members who may be affected by this closure...
