  1. Congrats Linus and the Crew!!!!! I would be proud to receive any of these great prizes and i would show them off whenever possible. I found Linus and the forum after seeing an NCIX video when i was looking for build parts. Have a Geeky day!
  2. Hello all, I'm trying to trouble shoot a rig for a neighbor who tried his hand at building his first rig. The issue is no post on power up ( yes i already went through the tips at the top of this category). I decided to just pull everything out of the case and start from scratch. With just the M/B, CPU, 1 stick of known good RAM, and a known good GPU on a test bench, it still gets these symptoms, when turning on the supply, the on board power switch lights up along with a red led just above the front panel connectors at the bottom of the board. Then upon hitting the power switch, 5 LED's near the 24 pin plug and power switch light up (and all stay lit) 2 green, 2 yellow/orange and 1 red, there is also a separate blue LED near that area lit up, and another set of 2 LED's 1 green 1 yellow near the top PCIe slot where the GPU is. After about 5-7 seconds, everything but the power switch and the red LED shuts down and reboots over and over until you turn of the power supply. Side note, CPU fan and power supply fan also turn on/ stay on when hitting the on board power switch. So, any ideas whats causing this and what are the LED's for since they dont flash, they all stay on constant until it restarts itself. My neighbor got frustrated and actually bought another motherboard ( Asrock Z77) which he didnt tell me about until i already took everything out of the case, but he said it did the same thing when he tried it with that board. I'm leaning towards a cooked CPU but im open to suggestions and HELP. He doesnt have the manual for the board, so i checked Gigabyte website and found the PDF file for the manual, but its just an installation guide with no other info.
  3. I had a similar issue when cranking up my APU rig to see how far i could go and still be stable using software. I ended up getting rid of the software and using the BIOS adjustments ( Asrock MOBO) instead. After playing around some more, i ended up having to reset the BIOS to factory default status. Since then I went a little slower on the OC and have gotten it up to 5.1 Ghz stable while running 16Gb 2400Mhz Kingston Hyper X Beast RAM. I suggest resetting the BIOS to factory default values and starting over. ( going in slower increments) On a side note, i have found that the "supported list" is pretty general info, but by the same token, there are some brands/models RAM that will not work with certain boards, i had an issue with a previous APU build using an ASUS MOBO that didnt like The brand "TEAM" RAM ( dont laugh, i got it for free) and ended up buying Kingston which i knew would work after pulling from my other rig and trying.
  4. I like the fact that even though it appears to be a very capable gamer, they gave the exterior style without making it look like other " over-the-top " brands that i wont mention...coughalienwarecoughcough. The ROG symbol is enough for the people who know, and yet not in your face enough for the people who dont.
  5. On a fine winters day in Ohio where i was living a few years back, i had just gotten home from picking up 2 monitors, a MB, and video card from a friends house and being the lazy person i am, i decide to try and carry everything in the house at one time. Which doesnt sound very difficult until you have to do it walking through 18" of snow. I proceeded to lose my balance and lost one 24" monitor to the frozen/ice covered concrete walk way leading to the back door. I do believe i had a few other choice words besides " OH CHIT" to say that day.
  6. 1 Cat, 1 Dog, 2 Fish......and a partridge in a pear tree......come on, get with the christmas spirit
  7. It really comes down to available space(on/under the desk) and your vision of what looks good. I currently run a Cooler Master Storm Trooper sitting on top of my desk, which will handle nearly ANYTHING you want to put in it, but it is rather big. Its 24"H x 23"L x 10"W and weighs 32lbs. empty. I recommend it for its size, looks, and cooling options. On a side note, i prefer red LED lighting which is stock for this unit and you can get a full window left side panel for it from CM for $19. Theres my 2 cents.
  8. @TheSLSAMG "About $130 for the motherboard, $100 for the processor, $75 for the 5870, $55 for the 5830 and $20-25 for the RAM." That seems a bit high unless thats for your specific area, out here in SoCal, cut those prices in half, except the RAM, thats about the same price out here. I recently purchased a used Asus 2GB HD7770 for $60, and an Asus M5A99FX & FX-8350 combo for $135 on Craigslist. @trail, check your local craigslist/Ebay and see what others are selling for, that would give you the best average starting point.
  9. I guess Lenovo is a "silent" partner of the promo LOL
  10. I just searched a lil bit and found them anywhere from $149 - $248 plus tax/shipping, so i guess it really depends on if you can find somebody to buy it and how much they are willing to pay.
  11. @ Hazy, I understand that part, but i'm specifically asking why that post was locked/ against CoC, because the person wasnt trying to sell the item or advertise for its sale on this site. they only said " where should i sell my laptop". Whats wrong with asking for opinions??? isnt that what this site is for??
  12. Hello all, i was just looking at recent topics and saw the topic of " where can i sell my laptop." This got me wondering after looking at the CoC, what was actually wrong with the post??? He wasnt trying to sell it HERE or advertise/link to it here on the site, he was simply asking where people thought would be best. That being said, why do members immediately reply "against CoC" when technically its not, because he's only looking for opinions about where people think would be best to sell it, he wasnt asking if anybody here wanted to buy it. 4.2 Advertising Any sort of advertisement on Linus Tech Tips that has little or no relation to Linus Media Group, or is not affiliated with Linus Media Group in any way will be considered spam and removed from the boards. This also pertains to signatures and/or profile information. In addition to advertising, you may not sell any item via the forums or advertise links to third party sites (EBay, Kijiji, etc.) where you have sales posted. That being said, maybe a MOD could respond as to why the topic is "locked"??
  13. I have narrowed my choices down to 2. 1) Jordan ( Jordan Two Delta from the movie The Island) 2) Sil ( from the movie Species)
