  1. I'm trying to figure out where. My PSU is still covered by warranty so at least I can RMA it.
  2. When I arrived home today I noticed that my desktop wouldn't start. The fans spin for just a moment, then stop. The process repeats itself until I turn off the PSU. I have to mention that I haven't touched the PC in a about a week, and that it was working fine the last time I used it. I recorded a small video, for clarification I started troubleshooting things. Checked RAM, fans and pretty much everything that you can easily check. None of them were to blame. Then I tested the PSU with the paperclip test. I connected the hard drive to the PSU and it was working. Again, here's a video: Note that the PSU fan doesn't spin initially because the PSU is semi-fanless, the fan doesn't spin unless the PSU reaches a certain temperature. When it shuts off, I guess the fan spins a little bit to get rid of dust, I've heard of similar techniques used by other manufacturers. So this leaves the motherboard as the most probable culprit. I even tried removing the motherboard from the case and running it outside, but alas, nothing happened. I suspect a power surge shorted something in the motherboard.
  3. It's not a problem. I wish they could have done something a little bit more special.
  4. The problem I see with the Note lineup in general is that there's little reason for it to exist these days. Ever since Samsung introduced "Plus" variants of their flagship, the only real selling point that I see in the Note has been the stylus (and maybe minor spec bumps, but that's to be expected since it launches half a year after the S line). The Note blew away the market when it was introduced because it introduced the notion of a phablet, a smartphone with a really big display. People realized they wanted bigger and bigger screen, and over the course of a few years that's how the entire smartphone market progressed. Samsung, however, were the first ones to push the idea forward with the Note, and they won a lot of costumers that way. But these days, almost all smartphones have large enough displays. The difference in size between the S Plus and the Note is pretty negligible. So what's the point, I ask? I've always considered the stylus a gimmick. The Note has some extra software functionality that, again, is mostly gimmicky. It's not vastly superior when it comes to productivity and multi-tasking. Battery life seems to have taken a toll this year. The Note 8 looks like a slightly refreshed Galaxy S8 with some gimmicks added in. This also makes it so Samsung releases 2 flagships a year, and I think that's the main advantage of this strategy.
  5. Discussing piracy is against the CoC so let's avoid that. You can find a lot of free games on https://www.reddit.com/r/FreeGameFindings/ , but most of the time they aren't great games. However, when there are great free games on offer anywhere you're pretty much bound to find them there.
  6. Greetings. I'm looking for a tablet in the 250-300EUR range, to be used mainly for watching movies and browsing the internet. I've been looking at the available options and I'm torn apart between these two: Huawei Mediapad M3 : kirin 950, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, 2560 x 1600 8.4" display, really great speakers Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 VE: Snapdragon 652, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 2048 x 1536 8" display Any thoughts? I also don't know if 8" might be too small for video playback and if I should be looking for a 10" tablet instead.
  7. Ah, no, not at the same time. I assumed there had to be more to what you meant.
  8. I remember using Bumblebee (Nvidia Optimus, so switchable nvidia GPU + intel iGPU) on Linux and it worked just fine. That was a year or so ago, I don't know if things changed that radically.
  9. I browse reddit fairly frequently and I remember seeing the meme in question a day or so ago. It shows Trump pummeling a guy with CNN's logo over his face. I thought it was pretty funny at the time but CNN seems to have been offended by it. Here's the article in question: http://edition.cnn.com/2017/07/04/politics/kfile-reddit-user-trump-tweet/index.html TL;DR: Reddit user makes a Trump meme which eventually appears on the President's twitter feed. CNN discovers the real identity of the user and threatens to expose it if he doesn't issue an apology and takes down his offending post(s). I have no words for this. CNN doxing a private citizen because of a meme? Oh boy...the world we live in. Additionally, I can't but think about the meme war that's gonna be on Reddit now.

  11. To be honest, a lot of companies resort to advertorials to promote their products. While I don't know what to say about the companies' practices, the one thing that I can definitely critique is the journalism. I might be somewhat ok with an advertorial, although I'm not entirely sure, if the journalists were open about it. But that doesn't happen too often. Very recently, I remember thinking just about this topic when The Verge clearly did a video on the new OnePlus 5 prior to its launch, with a tour around their Shenzen offices, interviews and some peaks to the phone itself. The video I'm talking about is: I think it's clear that The Verge did an advertorial, but it's disguised as a special feature video. That's just not quality journalism. Oh, and need I point out that you can always hear The Verge talking about something not beating the iPhone, and with the OnePlus 5 they just forgot? Come on guys... My point is that in order to stop or make these practices more reasonable, the journalists need to take action. They are the ones promoting the products after all. If they refuse to do advertorials or are open about it and the fact that they're doing an advertorial doesn't skew their opinions, then things will take on a better course by themselves. I think so, at least. I doubt enthusiasts ranting about advertorials on the internet will make a company change their mind.

    Free Games anyone?

    I haven't. D:

    Free Games anyone?

Yeah, can't say no to free stuff. Heck, I even follow a subreddit with free games ( r/freegamefindings ). My steam library grew a little bit because of that. For that matter, I haven't spent one single dime on Steam. Hmm, not bad considering I have about 60 games in my library. Anyway, how is the life on the forum? Anything interesting lately?

    Free Games anyone?

Jeez, I don't even remember the last time I posted something on this forum. Guess I'm not very active anymore.

    Free Games anyone?

Might as well post, eh, who knows.
  16. Well, the oldest GPU I had around the house until somewhat recently was an Nvidia Geforce FX5500. It has 256MB of DDR, uses AGP and features DirectX 9. Circa 2004 iirc. Here are some pictures I took of it a year or two ago: Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. Or at least I don't think so. Let's just say I can't find it anymore. Can't really remember what I did with it. Other than that, well, the second oldest graphics card I have is also the newest one. Jeez, what a surprise. Behold my GTX 560, still rockin' in 2017. More specifically, it's an Asus DirectCU (not DirectCU 2, keep in mind, so it only has 1 fan) Also yes, I'm too lazy to remove it from the PCI slot. I'm not one to say no to free games, so: 1. Shadow of Mordor 2. Saints Row 3. Sniper Elite
  17. While the article itself is informative and makes a really good point, the part in which you present your own opinion just comes off as a hostile rant against Microsoft. Comparing what Microsoft is doing to slavery is a bit too much. I thought it was worth noting.
  18. I still don't get the anti-Microsoft tinfoil attitude but hey, maybe that's just me. It's clear that Windows isn't just a product anymore, it's also a service, and telemetry data helps in improving the quality of that service, in some way or another.
  19. It's not that easy. Artificial neural networks are mathematical models inspired by the networks of our biological neurons and they aren't that hard to understand. Google is your friend. But this isn't just about neural networks; it's about what we're actually trying to achieve: machine learning. And in that sense, neural networks are just some tools we can use. Of course, you also need to know how to use this tool, and there are many machine learning algorithms for neural networks and even for other models (eg. support vector machines).
  20. I haven't heard that name in a long while. Is he still streaming and doing youtube videos? I haven't checked him out in like 2-3 years.
