  1. Hi All, So a while back, I was moving stuff, and dropped my PC when moving it. It was fine for the first few months with no sign of any issues, then one day I started having issues. Like windows was running at 1fps or less. My fix for this was to put the GPU into my other PCI-E slot that is only 4x. This was fine for a while, but now I am looking at if I can either fix it, or if I need to get a new motherboard. I have tried putting the GPU back into slot one but only setting that slot to 4x, but that still had some issues. I tried having the gpu angled a bit to try help make better contact with lower pins (the ones I expect to be damaged) but that didn't really help. When I look at the pins in the slot itself, nothing seems super obviously broken, some are a bit lower than others, but I tried pushing up the housing around the slot and that didn't work to help make contact. I have attached some photos (I know my pc is dusty and needs a clean too) I feel like looking at that, the problem is probably too small for me to be able to fix without risking breaking it as I use my pc for work. But I am not sure if I am overlooking something Thanks
  2. Ahhhh, that would be why, my bad. I thought it looked like it was pinned for 8x. Thank you for your time.
  3. Hi All, So a while back, i broke my top PCI-E slot while moving. Didn't remove the GPU, I was in a major rush and didn't have time to do it. It is not fully dead as a slot. If I put the GPU in there, it still sort of works, it just blue screens, or windows runs at a low frame rate (like 4fps) and glitches, so hard to say if its fixable. Either way, I have put a PCI-E ssd in there for now, I have another PCI-E USB hub in another slot. The GPU (RTX 4070 Super) is in the lower x16 slot, but the slot is only pinned for x8. However, in GPU-Z, the gpu is only running at x4. Games are still playable, it isn't super noticeable, but I think there is a performance drop from it. I tried going into the bios and setting PCI_E1 to x8, x8. Hoping it would make the gpu x8, but it hasn't. Does anyone have any other ideas on why this might be? I know I will need to get a new motherboard at some point, but just in the mean time. Also, yes, I know I am an idiot for getting myself in this situation. Thanks
  4. That is fair. I shall try to do that, I just wanted to avoid it to avoid having to re-download and install all my applications again.
  5. I am aiming to do that. But judging by unstable windows and the system is I am worried if it would even make it through it as I’m struggling to stay in windows for very long at this point.
  6. Hi all, I am having an issue with my pc where I can barely use it. It has seconds per frame just in windows. As in the title, wdm and csrt are maxing my gpu. If I use ddu to uninstall the drivers my pc runs fine, but with no drivers… as soon as I install new gpu drivers, I tried latest, one rev ago, game ready, studio, through GeForce experience, without GeForce experience. They all have the same issue. I have looked at what other people said online but nothing seems to fix it. Other people seem to have semi working pc’s but mine is barely usable. Hence why I am typing this post on a tablet. I feel like my only option is to refresh windows, but I would love for some other suggestions first if anyone has experienced this. i also sometimes get bsod with video_scheduler_internal_error so far I have: ddu (worked until I install new drivers) fresh gpu drivers windows updated Malwarebytes and windows defender scan disable hardware acceleration tried a different gpu nothing worked. key specs: Amd 3700x 32gb 3200mhz ram gtx 1080 (tested a 1660 ti) thanks in advance if anyone can help
  7. Hey All, For some reason my ethernet port on my motherboard died. I don't know how and already made a separate post and did searching to fix it but nothing seems to have worked. So I am looking at getting a ethernet adapter. It has to be USB because I have no more PCI-e ports left (and I am already running out of lanes) I was just wondering if there is a real difference between the cheapish (linked below) USB 2.5gb ethernet adapters, or if I should just get the cheapest branded one. I only need want to get 2.5gb because I intend to get a NAS at some point. But the question of if there is a difference stands as I don't know as much about specifics of networking chips etc... 8. I understand. The backlight is what actually makes the image bright. The backlight is generally just a white LED array that is behind the LCD panel (which is what does all the colours) Over time the backlight can shift in its colour, you can search your model of tv and look up backlight replacement guides for similar tv's
  9. If the image you have on the screen is meant to be white, then I believe it's not the panel itself, but the backlite having died. I have the same issue on my tv, depending on the tv it can be an easy replacement if you have the time, but if you bought it off someone then that's kind of bad but a relatively cheap fix if you have the time.
  10. Are you only gaming? The CPU may be a bit overkill if so. Also, trying to get a newer CPU would be good
  11. I am going to add a 10g NIC to the machine, then 2.5g switch for all of them to work through as that should be overkill for what they need right now and what they will be doing in the next few years. Sounds good thank you. I just wanted to check.
  12. Hey all, A friend has asked me to help him set up a video editing Nas. (Mostly because I convinced him) I had a few questioned which I am not fully sure on. Firstly, could I have two Nas's on the same system. So I want to have an SSD portion to be actively edited off of. (8-12tb) then another part for archiving files long term and just as an onsite backup. (24-48tb) Would this require two separate systems to run, or could I set up two arrays that run independent of each other. The HDD array would be relatively low use and performance. Second question is if there is a calculator for CPU and memory requirements by expected usage/drives. Currently they are on lower bitrate footage so don't expect as much throughout per editor. With currently only 3-4 editor, but they will want more in the future and also be moving to higher bitrate footage. Would an older Ryzen 2600, and 64gb of ram be fine as a starting point that can be upgraded later? Sorry if these may be simple but this will be my first thing like this but i am mainly doing it because I find their current set up horrible so it's a good start to move into this direction. Thanks
  13. nope, also tried a new cable that I took from something that is working.
