  1. you buy new RAM chips that exactly match the physical dimensions of the old one but have higher capacity. then you desolder the old ones, solder on the new ones and hope that the BIOS will just accept the new RAM. the thing is if you have the equipment and skill to do this you would usually not need to ask which is why everyone is talking about that its a bad idea.
  2. it wouldnt be any cheaper though. if you want a cheaper NAS just build your own.
  3. will be interesting to see how they do that given that the ratcheting mechanism needs to be inserted into a freshly injection molded and still hot handle. so this will probably be limited to everything except the handle color.
  4. the only way to get more clearance would be either a different cooler or a PCIe riser and mounting the card somewhere else. running the 10G card in the 1x slot would most likely not work or severely limit your performance.
  5. because demand for SSDs and the NAND flash chips used on them is very much driven by regular consumers and sales in the PC market have slowed down significantly. meanwhile everyone that is producing NAND flash will produce at the highest possible output simply because the more you can produce the more you can sell. So now demand has slowed down but production is still sky high so the prices are falling for that reason. When it comes to HDDs especially the higher capacity ones the main customers are data centers which will always have demand no matter what and since most consumer products were already using SSDs anyways the slow down in sales didnt impact HDDs at all.
  6. sorry to bother with this again but another 2 months have passed and now all sizes of the short circuit and WAN sweatpants are sold out. any news on a restock for any of these?
  7. if you wanna create figurines in blender or so it may work out but for parametric 3d modelling its basically useless.
  8. thanks for the prompt reply. i just wanna add that i was refunded for everything that was not delivered so financially everything has been sorted out, this is really just about the fact that i like the products and would like to have the matching items if possible.
  9. Hello People. i ordered multiple hoodies and sweatpants both WAN and Shortcircuit on Blackfriday and unfortunately none of the sweatpants was ever delivered because they were all sold out despite being in stock when i ordered. the same happened again when i ordered some as a birthday present for my wife who now has a short circuit hoodie but no matching sweatpants because the size medium long is sold out since November, same for the WAN sweatpants in 2XL long, also sold out since November. Will these items ever be back in restocked or will we have to live with not having the matching items despite even ordering some of them with the combo deal that was available for black friday?
  10. you are coming to the wrong conclusion here. that this video was filmed weeks ago means its good planning on their side to do thing as early as possible and have time for all the steps in between or to simply have a video ready to go so you can release it when another video needs more time. if your youtube channel constantly shoots and released a video the same day that either means its a news channel where being as close as possible to real time is important or it means you cant plan at all and are doing too much for the work force you have available. having a buffer of videos is very important for a youtube channel.
  11. we need to know what the purpose of this server is to recommend anything. Also whats the mindset you need for unraid that you dont have?
  12. do you already have a data center in mind and checked their pricing? many will charge you per U height of the server and you will also need to check how big the server is allowed to be at most. Step one is check the data center where you want this server to go and with that information you can go and find a case, chances are you would be much better off just renting a server thats already in the data center.
  13. Summary Virgin Hyperloop fires half of its employees (111 in total) that were previously working on the Hyperloop that was supposed to transport passengers as they shift their focus to freight transport. Quotes My thoughts Totally expected that this was gonna happen sooner or later as the entire idea behind Hyperloop was heavily flawed from the get go. Shifting to freight only seems very weird though as the entire reason we dont have any large scale freight transport on something like a maglev platform is that shipping cargo on rail only works because its a large network and you can hook up the train carts to any train to transport it further which avoids constantly having to lift the loads onto another transport medium. Hyperloop freight transport is only gonna work if they have a gigantic network directly from producers to large logistics center and even then they still need to compete with rail which will only make financial sense if they can find customers that rely on this fast transport of a lot of very heavy goods and cant afford to wait a little longer for normal rail. Im fully expecting virgin hyperloop to fully shut down in the next 5 years. Sources https://www.ft.com/content/d87f77bd-0a0a-4512-b983-197f184f5352
  14. well its either the drive or the SATA port/cable plugged into it. swap the cable, swap it to another port and if you still get smart errors get a new drive.
  15. Zero actual numbers about these batteries on the website. Just fancy graphics and visions without any hard data. Looks like a lot of vaporware with nothing behind it.
  16. it all really depends on what game server you want to run exactly. these dual CPU high core count systems are nice if your games servers are multi threaded and dont require a lot of single core performance but that is not always the case. Also keep in mind these older system will consume a LOT of power. i would recommend that you first define what game servers you want to run, then look up what kind of performance these servers need and then buy the system that can do the job you want it to do.
  17. choosing which raid to use is one of the last steps to think about and depends on a lot of factors so nobody can give you a good answer without many more details.
  18. that depends on if your webUI is accessible from anywhere without a VPN or not.
  19. how are you measuring the EMI and which frequencies are you looking at specifically? HDD´s are a big grounded chunk of metal that in itself is shielded because its sensitive again EMI getting in which in return also does not let a lot of EMI out. on the other hand high speed interfaces in a PC like PCI-E lanes, connections to the RAM and NVME SSD´s are known sources of EMI but if they are not a problem for you thats probably because their frequency is too high for you to pick it up.
  20. the HDD is basically one of the parts that has very little EMI. The PC the HDD is connected to has a much higher potential for that kind of thing.
  21. yea it could do great as a paper weight or a door stopper though.
  22. it depends on what you need really. you can get old server hardware on ebay but it wont be great, it wont be fast but it will be loud and power hungry as fuck. The best server is the one thats build what your use case so define exactly which game server you would like to run and check their requirements so you know what you really need.
  23. does he have the key the decrypt the data? If he doesnt have that you can stop right there and say goodbye to the data. Also why does he sell the Synology box and then doesnt move his data to another system he can access first? If he had sold it with HDD´s the data would have been gone as well.
