  1. For lower prices you can get the same size drive from name-brands Samsung or WD.
  2. Interesting. I'll give that a go - It's a pretty crap piece of software anyway in my opinion. edit- Wow, I actually can't believe that worked. Uninstalled GeForce Experience, went back into the Control Panel to switch java to dedicated GPU, and bam-wam-zam its giving me 60fps at 10% usage. What a POS software
  3. Yes, I am. You are correct in that it runs much worse on battery.
  4. For whatever reason Minecraft runs much better on my PC using the integrated versus the dedicated graphics. I've tested this anomaly extensively by swapping between the two thru Java in the NVIDIA Control Panel. My laptop sports a i7 6700hq (HD 530 graphics), gtx 960m, and 16g ram. On a previous system with a GT 720 i got well above 200fps with everything at max. But, that was also running a i7 4790 which is maybe two or three times better than my current CPU. Things I've tested: Power settings are set to performance 4G ram dedicated through JVM arguments Tweaking things like AA, V-Sync through NVIDIA (side note - MC wont display more than 60fps in the debug, even with vsync off. This wasn't the case with the previous system) Optifine is installed, tweaked some things on there as well with minor improvements CPU monitoring reveals that it is turbo'd to a little over 3 GHz, but hardly being used. Integrated graphics only runs between 50 and 80 percent usage normally. It does NOT AT ALL like any shaders though, and caps pretty easily with those on. Probably a memory or cache limitation. GPU monitoring was pretty odd. I consistently get 10-15 FPS, regardless of what the render distance is set to. If shaders are on, its consistently around 5 FPS. So...I don't know what the issue is. It's all fine as long as I don't use shaders or texture packs, but that is annoying to say the least. Plus whats the point of having a decent GPU if you cant use it?
  5. I'd like a bit for what goes on with PCIe lane sharing between GPU, CPU, high-speed storage, ect.
  6. Originally I hadn't intended for that to be at all cynical, though can understand where you are coming from. I apologize.
  7. This topic in a nutshell: Wit MOBO/BIOS update fail Overclock fail (just put more fans on it geesh) Electrocution Hardware installation fail (someway, somehow) Partition fail / data loss
  8. Mind if I start using that? It sounds great. You know, I'm starting to wonder if my tech pursuits are even that great of an idea now, with a large influx of people like myself. Ingenuity is falling and hard work is becoming easier. Too easy.
  9. I electrocuted myself once at a networking class. We were helping another class set up computers and link them together, and while I was trying to plug something in at an odd angle my hand slipped and I touched the prongs. With as much power as was running through that loop I should be dead. But no, just a small tingle. Of course I did still jump back a mile.
  10. Ok, firstly there should be a great respect for what your parents are doing for you. Not saying you aren't, but if you aren't, you really should. Even a community college tuition is insane put on top of the bills they already pay. Second, if you really need the extra money you can look for a part time job. Even just a few hours a day for a couple days a week would be more than enough to fit your needs. Edit - Skimmed too much. You say you don't have time for a job? I doubt it. Stop overloading your self on classes, find a better form of transportation, move closer to the school, whatever you want. You have options. If you really need the cash you can make it work by balancing with everything else.
  11. Well damn! Did you ever hear how the guy ended up?
  12. Two years ago I found an old IBM xseries server chilling at a Goodwill (thrift) store. Off an on I've been working on getting it up and running, chugging in this, taking out that. Just today I got it to work, and is right now (at the time of me writing) downloading Ubuntu. Can't tell you how ecstatic I am to have finally got it working, even if it is a piece of crap in today's world. But, thats beside the point. Now I want to upgrade it! Here are the original specs Here's what I changed (more accurately, what made it work): No HDD, disc or floppy drives A 5-USB hub expansion through PCI A thumb drive I used to download Ubuntu, and a thumb drive I downloaded Ubuntu onto 2x1gb of ECC ram, PC3200. I can fit in another two pieces before I hit the system limit of 4gb. Question is, what can I do now? Obviously add more RAM, but what else? Upgrade the PCU maybe? -Jbax
  13. Not sure if this is still open, but I started up one of these just a couple days ago. Some things to check: *Port forwarding IP for outting device is set to, well, your outting device. *For vanilla, server.txt should have the IP and port entered. *For spigot/bukkit, same as above. *Firewall should be set to allow all ins and outs for Java programs.
  14. Depends on the phone and quality of the battery. Also the capacity is only 400mAh, while most other 5-20$ battery banks are at least a few thousand. So, all it will do is give you an extra boost to make an emergency call or something of the like. For 3$, not bad.
  15. Hello, For a project I am working on I need to somehow convert a single Composite Video (from RCA cable) to four Composite Video outputs, each a quadrant of the output. It is a bit hard to explain at times, so I attached a sketch. My idea is this: With a raspberry pi or something similar I can build a "calculator" that runs numbers and spits out a quarter of the input across four outputs, so that I can essentially hook up four monitors to that one input. If there are devices that would do this for me, they are too expensive. Trust me I've looked. VGA and HDMI ones cost a fortune and are way to bulky for my project, and ones for RCA are even less in demand. Anyway, is this feasible at a low cost? Is it feasible at all? -Jbax
