RahulR got a reaction from da na in Experiences with non-techies
My brother told me that you we couldn't delete our 24GBs of movies because they were on the F:\ Drive and our C:\ Drive only had ~11GBs left. He thought that there was one Recycle Bin and it was stored on the C:\ Drive He already knows that files still remain on the drive after being deleted, but I had to explain to him that deleted files remain on the drive they were deleted from.

Not really a "non-techie" but I swear this exact conversation occurred in the middle of math class between me and my math teacher who is also the "IT Guy" at our school (sadly). Anyway, at the start of the year he told everybody to get 3 of your friends phone numbers so that if you forget your textbook or binder at school you can still complete your homework. So, my friend forgot to bring his textbook home one day and when he came to school the next day the teacher asked why he didn't finish. He said that he had called me but I never picked up. The thing is, he didn't call my number, he called me on Google Hangouts. At the time my phones Wi-Fi wasn't working (and still isn't ). I thought it was because of my custom ROM at the time. So my math teacher turns to me and goes:
Teacher: Why didn't you answer his phone call?
Student: Because the Wi-Fi on my phone doesn't work.
Teacher: Why?
Student: I tried putting a custom ROM on it and I guess it messed up during installation.
Teacher: What? A custom ROM? Why do you need a custom ROM?
Student: Because Touchwiz uses like 1.7GBs or RAM with all the background apps.
Teacher: So? How much RAM does your phone have?
Student: 2GBs.
Teacher: So? Isn't 300MBs enough RAM? What are you doing on your phone that needs 300MBs of RAM? (Are you kidding me?)
Student: Just... stuff? I don't know, I do a lot of stuff on my phone. Watch YouTube, play games, browse the internet, etc.
Teacher: So you put another ROM on it?
Student: Yeah, I use CyanogenMod. It only uses like 1-1.2GBs now.
Teacher: What? You put a ROM to get more RAM? You're getting confused, buddy. (Arrogant prick)
Student: Yeah, I put a custom ROM, so it uses less RAM.
Teacher: Okay listen, how much ROM does your phone have? 16MBs?
Student: 16GBs.
Teacher: Whatever, why do you need a new ROM if you want more RAM? (thinks I'm talking about an actual ROM chip)
Student: No, that's not what I meant by ROM. Like, I flashed a cust--
Teacher: Listen, ROM and RAM aren't the same, buddy.
Student: I know, that's what I'm try--
Teacher: Don't argue with me okay? Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. I'm a computer guy.
Computer guy my ass. Idiot can't even pirate Windows properly, 60% of the PCs in our school says "This is not a genuine copy of Windows". Seriously though, I felt like throwing my damn phone at his head

It isn't really non techie, but yeah... This kid who was brought by my mum for me to look after as a favor for her mum (>_>), he would always ask 'is this GTA?' or 'Do you have GTA?'. I play Mafia III (with a big MAFIA III on the main menu) 'hey is this GTA?' 'no I don't have it' (although I did have it, I just wanted to play myself without letting him play yeah I'm bad) then after a few minutes 'Hey do you have that game... GTA?'. I watch an episode of Suits, and he says 'Oh so this is GTA!' I mean FFS you're 11 you can use your eyes to distinguish between a TV SHOW and a GAME

My dad thinks everything is a CPU.
"Hey Andrew, can you plug this into the CPU?"
"So (C:) is the CPU, right?"
"Will this put a virus on my CPU?"
etc.

I once saw this Debate on 'Advantages & Disadvantages of Cloud'
Debate started normally with a gentleman explaining how cloud storage helps save space and allows users to upload and store their media on the cloud.
There was a grumpy old man in them who instantly interrupted "BUT WHAT IF IT SUDDENLY STARTS RAINING !!! ALL OF YOUR IMPORTANT FILES WILL BE GONE !!!" "_____"
They took a short commercial break after he said that
It was on my local TV show,my mum likes to watch shows like that and then blame my PC as the most vicious thing on the planet that is responsible for every bad thing that happens to me ?

My dad says:
'Resolution' is the "amount of detail in a display",
1920 x 1080 is the "number of pixels in a display",
and that they are completely different from each other.
He gets furious when I tell him the truth. Once, I showed him one of Linus's videos - he was quiet for a couple of seconds, and suddenly proclaimed the obvious: "This Linus guy is a crazy lunatic!" I immediately retaliated:
"That's kinda true..."

Self-shame:
Before I got into pc building I attempted to clean the dust out of our fairly old desktop. I did so successfully, but after reassembling and turning it on it would boot but crash after a minute or two of use. I thought the gpu (which had a broken fan) was the problem, and sent it to a more techy friend.
Turns out, that gross gray stuff I wiped off the CPU was important. I still have the pc minus the gpu sitting in my closet waiting for thermal paste.

Today I had to do some extra Computer Science work in school, and I was put in a class with 11 year olds learning about so-called "hacking".
'lol my dad's a hacker cus he switched off the internet'
'My Alienware can't be hacked'
'I can hack GTA V'
Definitely hindered my concentration

Tech side. A friend could not get his computer to start after adding RAM. So I take a peak. He had SDRAM Elastic Banding the SD sticks 1/3rd in, 1/3 kinda in, 1/3 just out of the DDR 2 slots. His words as I gaped at it? "It doesn't seem to fit right, can you get it in?" I felt like I was 13 again talking to my girlfriend.
