  1. Heres a little test thing I made for LMG's new channel, ShortCircuit! The idea was to have something that transitions seamlessly with the video Let me know what you think
  2. I know right, it seems as if it was only yesterday we were complaining about the lack of a fire pole at the "new" Office ?
  3. Oh man I don’t know what’s the best thing about this video. The fact Luke is still called Slick, the closet joke (the dawn of the fanfics?!), or that « Game Over » shirt ?
  4. 10 YEARS OF LINUS TECH TIPS!! Congrats again to the team on the milestone What was the first LTT video you ever watched? Or did you board the Linus-Train with NCIX Tech Tips? And why did you watch it? My first LTT video was not that long ago, it’s the review of the Corsair Graphite 230t I was shopping for a new rig at the tim, I searched for reviews of this case and the video was the first result on YouTube. I ended up buying the case, and while 90% or the components changed, my current rig is still in it.
  5. The Surface Laptop and Razer Blade come to mind. I've got the latter and it's very close to my previous laptop which was a mid-2010 MacBook Pro. That being said, how good a keyboard feels is pretty subjective. Some people love the new Mac butterfly keyboards, but to me it just feels like tapping on plywood. Microsoft Stores (physical locations) sell other laptops besides their own, I'd suggest you actually try a few different brands/models.
  6. You may consider Avid's Pro Tools, especially if you're on macOS
  7. Do NOT get a Razer Blade. The Quality Control is awful, you will get into countless issues, and their support is downright terrible. I've had to RMA my Blade twice for the same issue, that they still haven't managed to fix it. Currently waiting for a refund. They, admitedely, look nice, but if you want a Windows laptop that is reliable, then it's no go
  8. To be fair, I own a Blade late-2016 and I found the Quality Control to be pretty terrible... my unit came with coil whine (that exists also on the XPS 15, mind you), a weird issue where sound crackles when transfering files over Wi-Fi, and stuck pixels. I RMAd my Blade, Razer Europe support is pretty terrible... I add to send my laptop away in Germany where it stayed there 2 weeks while I was stuck without a working computer. It came back with only the display changed, so all the other issues remained, plus they botched the reassembly and now the screen assembly is slightly misaligned with the body. I have arranged for an other RMA in mid september (couldn't do before)... And according to German consumer laws (Razer Europe is based in Germany) it will be the last time they can attempt a repair before I can ask for a refund. Now I've read that the Blade 2017 Kaby Lake had far less issues and apparently no coil whine, maybe QC improved somewhat. If you do buy a Blade, my advice would be: DON'T buy it from Razerzone and instead from a retailer. I'm not sure if you have physical Microsoft Stores in germany but that would be a good place. Buying in a store allows for physical inspection of the deviceon the spot for quicker service. I could not stress this enough, in my experience Razer support is terrible.
  9. True! But if he's only going to work on the Windows VM or Bootcamp, then it's questionnable to actually have a Mac in the first place In the end, if your workflow can adapt to both OSs, it all comes down to a matter of personnal preference. Personally, I loved my Macbook for many years, but my lifestyle evolved and I prefered to go for a more powerful laptop that was on Windows so I could game while I was on the go. If you already know that macOS would be a good fit for you, if your workflow fits and if you're ok about the price tag go for it. Same goes for the Blade. We're not helping, are we?
  10. Oh I know, but it's far more convenient to have it in a VM, especially if you're coding, which is not very intensive work. Plus VMware has this cool thing where the Windows can "blend in" with the macOS environment. Well I can't tell if that's compatible with macOS Honestly, if you're already used to a Windows work environment and softwares, I wouldn't bother changing OS. What do you think of the new Blade Stealth? It's now available in a "gunmetal" finish, with a much sober razer logo (that doesn't light up) and non-rgb keyboard (boo not fun). https://www.razerzone.com/fr-fr/gaming-systems/razer-blade-stealth
  11. Careful there, Notebook =/= Netbook. It all comes down to what OS you need/want. What kind of programming do you do? Chances are, it's cross platform. Unless you're coding in Visual Studio, duh! But then there is VMware. Macbooks tend to be pricier than anything else when you compare "apples to apples" (aha, get it, apples) A Blade Stealth could be a good option for you if you really need to code for Windows platform and still want a good looking computer. The touch screen is also pretty nice.
  12. Ah crap, saw this when I already removed the "dead" ones to replace them with the Imgur ones haha. Sorry guys, but it should work now
  13. Ah? I can see them fine... I'll just post them on Imgur gallery and edit the post, hold on
  14. Hello Everyone! I cleaned my phone from old photos and found some of the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy case I've made a while back (Got the idea from Luke's bomb case, duh!). Here are the specs of the system : - Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H81N-D2H - CPU: Intel Pentium G3240 (3.1 GHz) - RAM : 4 GB of G.Skill NS Series DDR3 1600 MHz CL11 - PSU: be quiet! SFX Power 2 400W - Storage: 120GB SanDisk SSD Plus Sure it's really far from being powerful but fine to play some 1080p movies, watch YouTube & stream games on steam ! Do tell me what you think and if you have some questions !
  15. Hello guys and gals! In my company we have 7 Windows 10 Pro PCs + 1 PC on windows 10 Pro also but acting as a server for file sharing, for a inventory management soft and a backup software for the networked PCs. Heres my problem : The computers all download the automatic Windows 10 updates at the SAME TIME and we have a very, very bad internet connection (i'm talking 2Mb/s down 0.4Mb/s up). So when they download their updates, it takes a while and prevents anyone from browsing online, or opening any mails.. Even googling something is hard. If I had a 100Mb/s connection there wouldn't be any problems as the updates would have been extremely fast and, at worse, internet would have been slow for a few minutes but right now it's a pain for several hours. So I've disabled all updates in group policy, and so far it appears to be working in preventing any updates from downloading (Edit : Nope, I thought it did but it's just very slowly barely downloading because an other PC is hogging the bandwidth) BUT, I'm not comfortable with the fact that my PCs are running on outdated, possibly vulnerable Windows versions and would still prefer to have those updates... My point is : Is it possible to have the PCs download the updates at night, but never in the work hours? Or : Would a real Windows Server OS allow me to download the updates at my preferred time and install them on the PCs when they're turned on? Thanks for your help!
  16. Update: The update went well, I've got gigabit speeds on most of the clients, except for a few but I think that there maybe Cat5 cabling in the building, i'm going to look it up. Thanks a lot for your help & suggestions!
  17. Okay, it pissed me off so I've started windows 10's installation on the server... Let's hope this solves the issues, I'm pretty sure the server is the culprit here
  18. Maybe you could use convoluted sleeving, ,like the ones they use for electric wires underground, to protect your 2 ethernet cables... but i'm afraid it might be too heavy for being aerial. How long would the cable run be if you buried it?
  19. I've tried your advice Oshino and it didn't change anything. However it seems that no computer are able to transfer files to and from the server anymore and I am not sure why
  20. Here's a Crystal Disk Mark & Crystal Disk Info I just did : Yes I had the different version in mind when I tested LAN transfer to an other computer than the server, I actually used an other Windows 7 computer and got Symmetrical, sorry for not adding that detail to my post. I'll try to disconect every client but one when they're gone at 6pm (in 30 minutes here) and will report back Yes there are some extension cords running parallel some ethernet cables at different places in the office but those two computers get different speeds (One of them is a computer getting 50MB/s Also cables in the ceilings could be close to power wires for the lighting, (and it's fluorescent tubes so it can't help too) But theres no way to redo the whole network
  21. I agree too, Cat6a, or even Cat 7 if he dares "going there" is a better idea than fiber. However if he does put it through a buried conduit it probably doesn't need to be rated for outdoor use, there won't be any UVs down there
  22. Hellon everyone! I come to you today with a problem i've been banging my head on for some time. Heres the situation. I've got a customer who has a small network for his equally small business, it's composed of : 1 Netgear WNR3500Lv2 router & 2 Gigabit switches (D-Link DGS-108 & TP-Link TL SG-108) Ethernet wires range from Cat 5e to Cat 6, nothing below that and all wires (except 2) seem OK. They have 9 computers all running Windows 10 since last week + 2 printers + 1 WiFi AP for the warehouse. +1 "server" running Windows 7 Pro (which runs a software for the stock management + Retrospect Backup + FTP server + shared folder) Here are my speeds, which are really strange... I get 110MB/s (Or 880Mb/s) from most of the computers when reading files from the shared folder, which is a very decent speed. (Theres 2 computers that only gets 50MB/s tho, and I can't understand, I think theres some bad cables but i'm still troubleshooting it, it's hard to do when people are... well.. working ) The issue really comes to writing files on the server, when copying a file to the shared folder I get more or less 45MB/s (Or 280Mb/s) from ANY computer (yes, even the computers that are slower when reading). I've tried transferring the same file I'm using for the test to an other computer on the network and get a nice symmetric speed of 110/110 MB/s Heres what I tried : - Changing the server's ethernet cable to a new CAT 6 one : no change (left the new cable anyway ) - Disabling TCP scaling using this command : netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled Altought it did not solve the problem I did manage to get the transfers to 45MB/s instead of 35. So heres my question: What else could I try to troubleshoot my problem, and what could cause such an issue? ALSO, theres an other weird problem that occurred on one of the computers, Reading and transferring files from the server works just fine at very good speeds, but you can write to it before you unplug the ethernet cable from the computer and plug it back in, then it transfers at 45MB/s like the rest of the computers, otherwise it remains stuck at "Calculating"... Sometimes on very small files ( like a few KB) it would still transfer after a while. If I reboot the computer it won't transfer anymore and have to unplug/re-plug again. Now this particular problem occurred when I updated the computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the rest of the issues have always been there. And I haven't been able to troubleshoot it... Any ideas? Thanks a lot for reading all this text!
  23. I'm in France and the 212 Evo *could* be the best choice you'll have with budget coolers.
