Finally! With Android Q, critical security updates will be pushed via the Play Store. Sure many OEMs like Samsung and LG would only push two years of Android updates, but at least the security stuff will be there for longer.

    Google never should have have carriers control over updates in the first place.

    Back in the day, that is their way of getting ahead of their competition: iPhones, Blackberries, Palm Pre, and Nokia phones running Symbian OS. Thanks to Verizon's push, Android got a lot of PR. After Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile followed and marketed Android phones because prior to early 2011, the iPhone was an AT&T exclusive.

    Remember those Verizon ads lampooning AT&T's 3G coverage?
