  1. Yeah, I got that email too. Eh. It was worth a try. I guess I'll just buy a 1080 instead.
  2. Yeah, Im seeing that. If it is just the cable, I will return it. The seller has not sold many items before this point. I sent an email to the seller asking whether or not the graphics card itself is actually included in the sale. Either way I will find out in approximately 5 days.
  3. Lol wut I am 80% sure that this is fake, but I just wanted to check with you all to make sure that I am not going to be infecting my new build with rootware before I even install an operating system XD. Anyways, I bought it because the price is low enough that a few hours of work will pay of the mistake I probably just made. If I get the box and find an actual product inside, you all will be the first to know. Happy building!
  4. I have been in possession of my current laptop, an Apple 2011 MacBook Pro 15.3", since I was 12 years old (I am now ~16). At my current age, I am well aware of the threats that exist online and, therefore, internet safety procedures are commonplace; however, when I first acquired this laptop, the same could not be said. As a 12 year old with a nearly insatiable obsession over Minecraft, I would often stray onto less reputable sites looking for mods & what not, and often I would subsequently fall for now stupidly obvious phishing scams like those "YOU ARE THE 999,999th VISITOR" pop-ups & misleading "download" buttons in ads. After nearly 4 years, I should probably not be worrying about viruses so much, considering the computer brand I use is somewhat rare in areas that authors of viruses actually intend to infect (the business world), that most of the viruses I was exposed to during that period, if any, would not still work on newer versions of OS X, and that I do not plan on making purchases with a debit or credit card on this computer. With those three complications out of the way, the only problem I still see is that, as of last year, I have an established email account, one used to sign up for classes & for managing business inquiries. As I am sure one can understand, I would rather not find that my choice college somehow received an assortment of porn links in an email with my name on it. Therefore, due to my past and the significance of this email address, the prospect of having an extra layer of security over my computer comes across as a decent idea. I do not plan on inheriting my father's remarkable paranoia, but instead downloading something as simple as AVG antivirus for Mac. Pondering this proposition triggers two questions: - #1: if (most) of my dangerous browsing days are behind me, is there still reason enough to justify installing such an application on my computer? - #2: if the previous answer is yes, would AVG be the ideal choice, or are there better options? Thank you for any and all assistance you all as a community are able to provide!
  5. So I really hate the new tacky gamer look of EVGA's ACX 3.0 cooler. I feel like in the last round of cards, their minimalistic and sleek approach gave them a huge advantage in the looks department. Has anyone tried modding the ACX 3.0 coolers that come with EVGA's 1070 & 1080 to make it look more sleek like the ACX 2.0/2.0+? If you have, what did you do. I want to buy one of the new cards but the tacky gamer look on all of the high-end aftermarket 1070's/1080's is a HUGE turnoff.
  6. You people need to stop arguing. You only make yourselves look stupid. Learn how to take correction. Not every statement disagreeing with you is automatically an insult.
  7. I feel somewhat uncomfortable spending $300 USD on 512gb of m.2 storage when Its limiting my Mobo options
  8. My woes all seem to be connected to the EVGA Stinger being the only black Z170 MITX board on the market yet lacking AC wifi and M.2 with its $200 price tag. In my search I have decided to compromise and buy an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming board. I cannot live without AC wifi and the community has made it seem as though m.2 is a must. Unfortunately due to the universe hating me, the Z170 Pro Gaming is red and black. Fortunately, all ports are black and only the heatsinks have any red paint. Could I paint these heatsinks completely black without ruining them?
  9. Ya. Yes, I am technically wrong. However, this is an image that explains what most schools I've been to teach. It is not technically correct, but most common folk don't know that.
  10. There is almost NO difference in price between DDR4 and DDR3. 16gb (2x8gb) HyperX Fury Black DDR3-1866 costs only10 cents less that 16gb (2x8gb) HyperX Fury Black DDR4-2133. The 6600 costs less than the 4690K, non- Z170 boards with 1151 socket are cheaper than Z97 and have support for all of the same features, and Skylake is more power efficient and run cooler.
  11. Yeah, the silicon lottery definitely does exist. However, if these chips are manufactured specifically for custom builders like us, produced with overclocking in mind, and cost more than a 6-core, then you'd think Intel would make some effort to maintain decent quality control.
  12. So I am planning on building a black and white themed system in an NCase M1 and I want to get an i5-6600K The most desired motherboard candidate is an EVGA Z170 Stinger because its the only decent MITX Z170 board on the market that isn't red. Its sexy as hell, but I look at the specs to find out that this $200 MoBo has neither built in Wifi (essential in my house) nor an M.2-2280 slot (I plan on installing a 950 Pro down the road). The $238 Maximus VIII Impact has better connector placement for an SFF but it is red, has no M.2 slot, and is $30 more expensive. Therefore, my only remaining option is the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming, where I suppose I will have to paint the heatsinks black. There is virtually no point to this thread, but I needed to vent about how companies care only for people who want Black and Red builds, and how they don't think SFF builders care about WiFi and M.2 Sorry for the salt Let the flame war begin
  13. Technically, yes the tower was originally known as the CPU. For the most part it still is as most of the reason companies like HP and Dell put the processor name in the specs is to take advantage of the placebo effect.
  14. Though a serious undertaking, I will probably end up sleeving my own cables to help airflow and aesthetic. Also, I plan on using a UPS, if that throws a wrench in the works
