  1. The ticking sound is the head moving. Sounds like it's just constantly seeking. I've had the issue years ago, but don't remember how it was resolved. I know one drive I had I tamped it against my hand after the drive was off and had completely spun down as the head seemed not to return to the parked position so the drive was searching in the wrong areas and caused issues. I'm sure someone here will be able to provide a helpful response.
  2. @brob Sorry about that. I had a long post and basically hacked parts to make it as short as it is. The motherboard is an ASRock Taichi X99. I will have all slots free for cards. I'm still looking over cards and monitors ATM. Really debating if I should just go with 1080p @ 100Hz+ since I'm about 99% positive that I will be buying one or two graphics cards and a new monitor once all the new models come out and third-party boards are available. Honestly, I'm not super picky. If it looks even halfway decent I'll be ecstatic. Edit: I'm willing to compromise on things to get something that matches more of what I want. I prefer a matte black finish, without any of the two-tone schemes AOC does (though, if it's what's best I'll deal with the red chin). I also would like decent colors as I do watch a bit of video. I don't mind shelling out for the 1070(ti) and a G-Sync monitor if I were able to get good enough color accuracy to enjoy movies, do some light editing (to learn, and mess with chroma key), etc. I'm not super decisive when it comes time to pull the trigger as I feel I just haven't crunched enough numbers or something won't be right.
  3. Hi. I've had to work a lot lately, and not sure where to get what, how much I should pay (i.e. if it's a deal or not), purchasing and/or upgrade path, or which components/accessories to go with. I would really like to finish my system off before the end of the year. I've spent as much time as I could going through stuff today, any help what-so-ever will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time. IMPORTANT INFORMATION >> My max budget is $1,000 (USD) >> Budget parts may be moved to a Ryzen system at a later date or cheap HTPC >> I have Amazon Prime. >> To my knowledge, only Amazon will have 10% tax added. >> Someone is always available for receiving a delivery. >> I am willing to purchase from any reputable seller. This is a TL;DR for the entire post I typed up (and decided to scrap). Firm Hardware Considerations Partial Programs & Games List
  4. Malware is not the only cause. Windows Update can do this too if it bugs out. Run a load of background task without adequate memory and watch what your system does.
  5. Wow... Really have to just pick one as what I like best? After doing additional research, I find myself really liking the Aria headphones, Autore keyboard, and Nascita mouse. I haven't used a mouse pad in years, so I think it would take me a bit to get used to again; it's also not the quietest to use, but I have heard that it provides excellent tracking aid. The Aria headphones are a thing of beauty. They are quite stunning and have a unique look. They are very casual and professional, and would definitely make for conversation. Most reviews I've found speak very highly of the comfort level, and I can only image how they must feel with the thick cushion pads. They're also praised for noise dampening, which for me is a must. In addition to the gorgeous craftsmanship, they also include a 3.5mm analog to USB digital converter. These are perfect for a modern contemporary work space. The Autore keyboard is very minimalistic. It is very elegant in design, providing professional aesthetics while fitting in perfectly with any setup; be it a professional studio or office, or a gaming rig. The metallic coat makes me think of graphite, it's a very dark yet shiny gray. To top it off, the keys are not labelled with a generic white and it has a detachable cable. There is no need to worry about cable length here; if it is too long a shorter cable may be used, and if you want to route the cable out of site it's as simple as getting a longer cable. Since the keyboard uses a stand micro USB connector it would be very easy to obtain a cable. Then there is the Nascita mouse, which allows for on-the-fly DPI switching which may be identified on the mini LCD screen just above the thumb rest. It utilizes a white LED which are quite neutral allowing it to fit in with nearly any theme. The mouse take ergonomic design into account so that your hand is able to rest in a more natural position. This mouse is also on the larger side, so you don't have to claw it (if you don't want to). After everything I've read and watched I really cannot say enough about how stylish these devices are, not to mention the quality they are praised for. All of these devices come with braided cables as well. It seems Feenix went all out on the quality and luxury of these devices. So much so that they also do not require special drivers. Why I like these products so much is that they will go perfect with a build I have wanted to do for quite a long time. Forgot to mention one other thing... The Phoenix; love the logo.
  6. Yeah. That's kind of what happens when you do something awesome...
  7. Likes do play into the algorithm, but if you do some research you'll find that viewership and retention are what matter most. If you were to install an extension to view video ratings from search results you would see that they are very hit and miss. SEO also plays a good part in being found. The title, description, and tags should be accurate and not exhaustive; too much is bad. Loads of information about how to improve YouTube SEO and more. I started looking it up, and then lost interest (at least for the time being).
  8. Pretty much the same as Charger's answer. PLUS the fact that the term computer is used and not laptop means that it would have to be a flood for it to matter since nothing is on the bottom of my case.
  9. There are a lot of variables when it comes to system resources, several of which are mentioned below. I'm assuming you're using a hard drive since you said "disk". If your system is making heavy usage of disk cache (Page File for Windows), system memory may be the problem. Is this a consistent load or only specific instance? (when booting, or running a specific game, etc) How much memory (RAM) does your system have? What all are you running in the background? Is there at least 15% of your hard drives capacity free? Is your hard drive heavily fragmented? Simply adding a new drive (HDD or SSD) may not solve the issue either. Many people will say get an SSD all day long, but if your system is low on memory that SSD isn't going to do much. Pending that your system does have adequate memory, then an SSD may help. Typically companies (the manufacturers, stores, etc) all like to market the performance of a drive based on the sustained read and write speeds. The fact of the matter is that throughput only matters when transferring data, what will truly have an impact (and is the reason an SSD will make a system feel very snappy) are IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second). SSD exceed the performance of HDD in both throughput and IOPS, which will provide a better overall experience. If you do get a second drive, which I assume would be an SSD, you may either clone your current drive to the SSD or do a fresh install. I highly recommend doing a fresh install. If you have a legitimate copy of Windows you will not need to purchase another license or a new version. You will only be allowed to install and use your copy of Windows on one PC however. If you are going to use Steam, put the game data on the HDD. If your HDD is in good condition, I would say to leave your documents there as well. Documents do not require much bandwidth to load; that being said they will still load faster from an SSD. As far as getting an SSD, you would be good to go with a Crucial or Samsung. If you are in the U.S. or somewhere you may take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday I would wait. More than likely a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB will be around $130-$145 (as they may easily be picked up for $165 currently).
  10. Likes don't matter much. To my knowledge total retention time is what matters. It could be worded differently than what you may be searching the ToS for, however if it is emulating a click and it's not doing repetitive automation it will not be detected and will not matter. I've run several scripts on several sites and have yet to ever have any problems. As far as likes go, I hate being told/requested to like a video to see another video or other content which is enough for me to dislike something. LTT are not the only publishers (generalizing content creator uploaders) that do this.
  11. Well, here's my daily driver... (For now) So you were saying your computer is bad? Granted, I missed out on buying an i7 2600K, 8GB DDR3, generic mobo, generic ODD, and a 500GB HDD (most likely Seagate) for $159. Could have gotten 2 R9 270's for ~$100 too. This will be long gone next year though. I'm trying to wait for Skylake Extreme Edition and Pascal.
  12. lol. Well, now I don't feel bad. I always have a ton of tabs open and always hear complaints about it because there is supposedly no reason to ever open more than 9 tabs (Ctrl+#). I usually have at least 20 tabs open, an average between 30-50, and at peaks I get upto 100-150 tabs. I put them in tab groups in Firefox. I'm not sure if it does, I was asking.

  14. I totally agree. They've went crazy with ads and tracking. I'm sick of the justifications of big data too. I couldn't agree more about those stupid ads that play audio, especially since it is louder than anything else that will play. I have been watching something on YouTube before and had tabs in the background and one of those would start up and just ruin the experience. It would play louder than YouTube and right along with it. BTW, doesn't rooting also allow you to block ads in apps?
