For me, I run a very thin environment where it doesn't even include a wallpaper option so we use the program 'feh' to draw one in the background.
 
Some environments of Linux (gnome springs to mind) don't offer this, while I believe Ubuntu does. The other option of this is that you could also grab wallpapers from the web or anywhere you wanted, since it's flexible enough to get an image from any source.

Ever seen/heard or a show called Dragon's Den?  Basically people pitch business ideas to 5 possible investors in hopes of getting a deal.  Well on one episode, some one was pitching a business centred around a new trash compactor that they claimed could do 6:1, vs the typical ones on the market that could only do about 3:1.  Someone brought up the concern of what happens if an animal gets into it, but the inventor discounted that saying nothing can get into it, and basically at the end of that segment as the guys walking away, Kevin said "I still want to hear what a racoon sounds like compressed 6:1"  I always thought it would be a great quote because of how strange it would sound out of context, especially considering who it's coming from.  In case you're wondering, the other one I got the same way

That's pretty funny... in my experience, people who don't know what they are doing (and know that they don't) generally are too afraid to try anything new, which can be terrible since it means they tend to never learn anything on their own, but it can avoid situations like this

the only thing I can find is cup holders for a BMW door, nothing on 5.25in cup holders
EDIT: ebay has only BMW parts.
Aliexpress only has car parts and dildos-_-
some car pieces looked like they might fit, but there where no real pc holders, the search continues...

What is it with people being totally mystified that a computer that's not plugged in won't turn on, or that has no internet connection can't connect to the internet?  Somehow people manage to intuitively understand that they must fill their car with gas in order to drive it, but yet when it comes to tech this insane level of stupidity is just "normal"... 

Some of the people at my work that aren't tech illiterate were talking about SSD's, and one person in particular decided it was just the thing to speed up his aging computer.  He had heard I built my own computer, so he wanted me to install the SSD for him.  I try to avoid getting roped into being people's tech support, but he offered me beer.   I installed the SSD, as well as cleaning out a huge amount of malware beforehand.  He was rather pleased with the speed increase, but then decided he wanted a second SSD to replace the HDD.  Despite my insistence otherwise, he thinks replacing the HDD will cause the same speed increase across the board.  The second SSD he got was of the same brand, but with a larger capacity.  He has become convinced that the retailer and manufacturer are trying to scam him because the second SSD is essentially the exact same physical size as the first.  He doesn't understand how it can hold more in the same amount of physical space.  I tried to point out the different capacities of USB flash drives despite being the same size, but he doesn't seem to be able to make the connect.
 
One a side note, this is a guy that shot his own finger off when he tried to prove sticking your finger in the end of a gun will stop the bullet.

one of my friends said today "hey when u build that new storage server, make it so that when one component dies it take the entire system with it!" just thinking in my head why the hell would you want that to happen?

I volunteer at a local library to help people who to use computers, boy I thought my parents were bad at using tech, the people I help are at a whole other level of technology in-proficient

What about some English fails, somewhat related to video games.
 
Back when I first started playing Civ II at age 14, I learned a lot of nice new big words like pacifist, cordial, hostile, vendetta etc.
 
So in one English class, we had a bit of a Q&A round on Romeo and Juliet. In one of my answers I used the word hostile instead of angry. After the Q&A, the marking was done by the person sat next to you with answers read out.
 
The pleb that was checking my answers had no idea what hostile meant and had to ask the teacher, who confirmed it was correct. I felt intelligent.
