  1. Haven't been here since November 2013, after joining right after the forums launched in January 2013. I wasn't really an active member but I figured I'd pop back in and see how things are going and what the forums are like now. So, what have I missed? You guys doing good?
  2. YES! I said that you should do this when you asked a while back. Unboxings are fine and dandy but I've found over the years you started talking less about your own thoughts on actual quality and more of just plain first sight observations. I haven't heard you say anything negative about the build quality of a product for a long time, but this is some of the most critical info people are watching for. Rather than just saying "this GPU uses a dual fan design" or "comes with dual molex to 8pin" or some other stuff, it would be more helpful if you took more time with the product and gave an honest opinion (that means pros AND cons) Honestly I think there's too much content being produced right now, to the point where I don't know what I want to watch. Please focus on the larger products but take more time with them to give us a better idea. I know other people do reviews as well but people watch them not only because it's a review, but also your personality
  3. Images no workey Edit: Well, I guess I just had to login. Ironic, as I had to login to post this comment. Funny how things work
  4. My storage has always been a bit unique, I mainly just go for pure raw storage amounts for my movie and TV library, plus all my games and other files. Currently in my desktop machine I have a 1TB Caviar Black for OS/files, a 1.5TB Caviar Black for games, and some dinky little 320gb Seagate drive I cannabalized out of an old machine for other crap. Attached via USB3 are 2TB and 3TB Seagate Backup Plus drives, the 3TB holding my movies and TV, and the 2TB being a network backup drive for my laptop and desktops around the house I used to have another 1TB green in there for other miscellaneous files but gave that to my father for his personal machine, because his photos were taking too much space In my laptop I have a 128gb Samsung 840 SSD, but in the optical drive slot I replaced the CD drive with the Silverstone adapter and put in a 750gb HDD in order to hold more files, programs, and games With the new focus on data security in the world, and especially since I just started at BCIT in computer networking, I plan to encrypt all these drives, and to make it easier I plan on getting a 250gb Samsung 840 Pro or Evo for my main machine because they are the only consumer drives that support full AES256 encryption (event though they're not OPAL complaint). It would be nice if I could have some WD drives to throw in this empty NAS box I have though, that way I wouldn't have to have all my TV and movies reliant upon my desktop machine, especially since these external Seagate drives tend to crap out on me once and a while (just saved one from the brink of destruction, a.k.a. corrupt volume). The NAS box supports RAID 1 and 0, which is a bonus Hopefully one of these days I'll pick up a home server and LSI 8888ELP RAID controller, and run a SFF8088 cable out to a headless chassis holding all my drives for the ultimate NAS (or just for the fun of it). Until then no RAID for me because no dedicated card, can't sacrifice performance issues (plus all my drives are completely different, lol) Twitter: https://twitter.com/douchecanoo/status/375108100744687616
  5. No one can help me out? I'm allowed to bump this, right?
  6. For a while now I've been meaning to encrypt my laptop in case it gets lost, I don't want my files to be potentially vulnerable. I've been weary though because I've heard that TrueCrypt does not recommend using their software on SSD's that have wear-leveling Somewhat noticeable performance decreases Added read/write cycle to SSD that could reduce lifetime The SSD I have in my system is a Samsung 840 (non-pro), and I can't find any information if it accepts hardware real-time AES encryption that some drives/controllers do. If it does then that means I don't have to use any software and there won't be any speed reductions, correct? Could Bitlocker be a viable solution here? I don't have TPM module but I can enable Bitlocker without it. Or can I use TrueCrypt even though they don't recommend it? And what if my system has two disks and I want to encrypt both? One is the SSD I mentioned before and the other is a normal HDD. In this case would I use hardware encryption on the SSD and a solution like TrueCrypt on the HDD? This stuffs a bit confusing, but if anyone has any input (like if the 840 allows hardware encryption), it would be greatly appreciated
  7. ESET NOD32 is probably one of the best AV's out there, but it's not free. Worth the price though
  8. Looking to buy the TJ08-E for my next build and have a couple questions 1. The website lists the CPU HSF clearance as 165mm. The CPU heatsink I want (Phanteks PH-TC14PE) is 160mm without the fans, but 171mm tall with the fans on. I know I can drop the fans down lower so it might clear the side panel, but I'm not sure if my RAM will then cause an issue, unless I get really low profile RAM 2. Are there fan controllers I can mount in the bottom 3.5" bay, instead of the 5.25" bay? Will the Kingwin FPX-001 work? If I did that, would I need to install the larger drive cage for my 3.5" HDD's? I've seen some people put them at the top by the PSU as well, like this Any input would be much appreciated!
  9. You think Reddit's bad, try being on /g/ for 2 years
  10. Free HTC phone? Sign me up! Wait, not the HTC One? ...nevermind...
  11. Errr, they still sell this like everywhere. At least in Canada they do
  12. There's a few places that still sell it in Canada, or at least they just import it from the states One place nearby sells all the special American sodas, you name it they got it. Plus, it's close to the local NCIX, so that's a bonus :)
  13. I actually liked Crystal Pepsi, can't think of much else EDIT: Wendy's used to sell those chicken bowl things a few years back, the Sweet & Spicy Asian Chicken was the BOOOMMMMBBB
  14. LinusTechTips and TekSyndicate are up there, and I really love some of the documentaries that Vice does. I love Node's (FreddieW and some other people) LAN party videos too, but their other stuff isn't so good. Badge of Shame is funny as hell, and so is MillionDollarExtreme. Then of course IraqVeteran8888
  15. For a lot of people they aren't, you just have to order online. You can find better deals online as well, you will just have to account for shipping costs
