  1. Just to be sure I understand right if I will most likely consume the media locally I don't need a huge transcoding cpu ? So I if I you use a 4 core cpu could dedicate 2 core to home assistant and plex could run on the 2 other core ?
  2. Hi I'm looking to build a cheap system to run home assistant and a plex server . What cpu would be a great balance of price/performance for this application. Thanks
  3. I bought a 12400f and a MSI pro a ddr4 to upgrade my pc . Now I need some memory. I find : 2x16gb g skill 3200 cl16 16-18-18-38 for 218 4X8gb g skill 3200 cl16 16-18-18-38 for 264 2x16 gb corsaire vengeance pro 3200 cl16 16-20-20-38 for 195 2x16gb Kingston fury 3200cl16 16-18-18 for 214$ Or 3600 kit of the same brand for like 20$ more . Is there any brand I should look for ? If not Wich kit would you go for Thanks a lot Budget (including currency): 300$ cad Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming only Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):
  4. Thanks a lot everyone , I choose a MSI b660 pro a and the 12400f for now . Next step will be to look for rams Thank again
  5. hi i looking to upgrade my pc but i kind lost on the cpu choice. it a gaming only pc. i'm in canada so hesitate between a 5600x (279$) and a 12400f(219$) who seem to be the best value/performance, i have a 6800xt as a gpu and will be gaming at 1440p.
  6. So I already order a tplink 8port switch. For the wire I think I will go with this one . Plus the keystone Jack from Amazon. I will put double keystone wall plate with 1gang low box Do I miss something or it seem complete ?
  7. For the wire is there a huge difference between 28awg vs 23awg ? I find 500ft for 90$ cad of 28 awg on primecable or 500 ft of shielded 23 awg for 144 $ on Amazon ?
  8. Very nice thank you very much for your time
  9. Right now no I don't need 24 I will have 2 computer, a steam link, a Nvidia shield, 2 printer , Somebody recommend to put 2 wire by room. So thats why I was looking at a 24 but I could buy smaller and upgrade later if a need bigger
  10. I find this one at 127 they say it's an easy smart switch (I don't know what it mean) TP-Link TL-SG1024DE 24-Port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch with 24 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 Ports, MTU/Port/Tag-Based VLAN, QoS and IGMP https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00CUG8ESM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bYOLDbHSK277W Or this one at 106$ TP-Link TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps 24-Port Gigabit 13-inch Desktop/ Rackmountable Switch, 48Gbps Capacity https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B004ELA5W4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2jQLDb2JKKGK5 I look for the ubiquity but it's seem out of my budget right now .
  11. I will start by saying that I know absolutely nothing about network. So it's look like a huge project for me. I want to setup a wire network for my home since my baseground is in a remodeling phase. I would start from my hub 3000 router include with my virgin plan. Then next to a unmanaged switch since the seem easier to setup. I would install double port wall plate in almost all room so about 8 wall plate . I would maybe install a media server but not right now more of a future project. What would be a nice budget switch to buy ? any brand to stay away or the are all good? Do I miss something in my setup ? Thanks
  12. Yes in cad, we can upgrade the budget to a 1500 extreme maximum 2000cad $. I didn't think about the weight but I would prefer a 15inch laptop I think
  13. I'm from Canada, I was budgeting 1000$ at first but since I want to keep it a couple of years I think I will wait a little bit more and I will increase my budget I don't want a super bulky laptop. Medium to slim. Battery life a almost have access to a outlet
  14. I would love but they are easily double the price Would like to stay under 1000 cad if possible. If not I will wait a little more before purchasing. The ryzen 7 with a 1650 is 1200 cad
  15. Hi guy's My laptop and my tab died recently so I need a light gaming laptop to bring to work Right now I'm looking at 3 acer nitro 5 1.
