  1. Figured out what the issue was. Some jackass was staging a UDP flood against my network. I guess I pissed off some neckbeard in dota or something.
  2. Two days ago, my internet suddenly became terrible. Webpages take an eternity to load, if they even load at all. Most of my games won't connect at all, and when they do I have crazy high packet loss (>60%). However, Speedtest, games, and ping tests tell me that my ping is no higher than it normally is. My down and up speeds are also at normal levels (25 down, 5 up). I normally use WiFi, but these problems persist even with a wired connection to my router. It also persists across other devices- currently, my phone loads webpages faster on an LTE connection that it does on my network. I'm used to solving minor network issues, but none of my normal tests have shown anything abnormal. I'm thinking it has something to do with my ISP, but I want to try every other avenue before I have to contact Comcast (ugh).
  3. We already have PS4 fanboys here. I'm just waiting for XBone fanboys to come in and talk about the "PSBore", and then we'll be set.
  4. You wanna know the real kicker? The 2010 short film is what the movie is BASED ON. The creator of that movie consented to them making an adaptation of it, and they turn around and file a copyright claim against him. For the movie that THEY COPIED. That's a new low. I don't know that much about copyright law, but I really hope that guy is able to sue them and get some compensation out of it.
  5. I can get a 9 pin to 6 pin adapter pretty easily. I just want something that will let me connect any kind of firewire.
  6. I want to upload some video from a camera to my laptop, but the camera needs a 9 pin firewire cable, and my laptop doesn't have a port for that. I understand that you can't just buy a adapter cable, but so far the only adapters that I have been able to find are PCIe cards, which obviously aren't a solution for my laptop. Is there any way I can connect firewire to usb or eSATA?
  7. The contract on my family's phones is about to expire and we're looking into getting new ones (the S6, if that matters). The last time we got phones, the only option was to get a 2-year contract or buy the phone outright. Now, every carrier is giving a "$0 down" plan. However, for Verizon's (the carrier we've decided on) $0 down plan costs exactly the same per month as the 2-year contract with 3 lines; this means that in the long run, the 2-year contract is more expensive (by ~ $700) because of the extra amount you paid upfront. From what I can tell, it's a similar story for every other major carrier. My question is what is the deal with these $0 down plans. Logic would dictate that getting anything for free initially should cost more in the long run than if you paid for part of it upfront, but my research so far has suggested the opposite. I don't believe that the carriers would give you the phone for cheaper out of the kindness of their hearts. What's the catch?
  8. For me, the biggest issue in paying for mods vs DLC is that mods are not guaranteed to work. Even if I have all of the dependencies and I supposedly don't have anything installed that conflicts with it, they still don't work sometimes. I'm not paying $5 for something that may or may not work. The only way I could see this working is if they had some kind of trial period where you could get a full refund if it doesn't work. Even then, I'm still vehemently opposed to the idea.
  9. Since I transitioned to primarily pc gaming a few years ago, I haven't preordered anything. There's really no reason to if you're buying digital, other than to get preorder bonuses- which I vehemently oppose.
  10. I doubt that many people even realize how expensive the phone is. Most people don't buy off contract, and when you're paying for a contract over 2 years, it's easy to lose track of how much the total is.
  11. I don't think any major retailers sell used laptops. Unless you can find a local place, your best bet would be ebay or Craigslist.
  12. What about the Sager NP8651/Eurocom M5 Pro (They're the same laptop, but from different OEMS) 15.6" i7-4710HQ 970M The Sager does have a TN panel (though you do have the option to upgrade to IPS), but I've heard good things about it. 4-4.5 hours of battery life with light/moderate use (no games, of course). The only issue is that the aren't touch, but they're well within your price range. And Eurocom gives a 10% student discount.
