  1. im not an intel fanboy, but honestly i'd say get intel processor and then mobo. I have AMD now, wish i had bought 3570k now!
  2. yeah it could be just driver issues. so you'd wanna just delete all the drivers for them and then obviously download and reinstall. (have them ready on a memory stick for ease) another point that you should consider is, are the cards identical. same company, same version, same specs etc etc
  3. as far as i know, you can install windows back onto the SSD and use the same code. Windows works by checking MOBO and CPU serial numbers (as far as i know, confirm me please), so if you keep these the same windows will work still
  4. maybe you should test the second card, cause if you havent tested this card, this card might just be causing the problem. i discussed this with a friend of mine, and we talked about the PSU, however we decided that cause its an AX series and 850 it should be OK. but just check the TDP for all the components and see if it surpasses the number on your PSU
  5. I suppose grey wouldn't look bad, it'd suit the rest of the components, but then you wouldn't be redesigning your rig for the 780, you'd just be redesigning it. Just looking at your case I'm struggling to find things that'd suit the green theme, so maybe painting them grey might suit the build better.. It's all your choice, but my two cents would be that getting green RAM (and getting rid the of the cooler too), getting a new watercooler (this is if you really want to go all out) - as im pretty sure there are some coolers out there where you can customize the colour of the CPU block.. I'd also think about green LED strips that aren't overkill, but give a nice affect... afterall, i think Linus said in one of his videos that you don't want to make it overly green as it'll take away the effect of the 780's green lighting.
  6. saw the fact you were getting a high wattage PSU, and a 2500k, instead of a 3570k, or even now a 4670k and thought maybe you weren't in the whole computing loop. but then I saw what you've done. my oh my. have my money sir; not only did you mod the case and create (pretty much) your own case, you made even the cable management look sick and put a window on it. i'll trade you my girlfriend for this rig?
  7. So I saw this topic and have (for the last 10 minutes) read through all the posts and I have decided to give my input on them (just in case you care ;P!) there are alot of good mice (expensive ones too!) out there, and one of the best budget ones i've found (though i know that you haven't really put peripherals into your main budget) is the Roccat Kova[+]. It's a light wired mouse and feels so nice in the palm of my hand at least :p I agree with the whole having to cut down to the 770, it's a crying shame. personally, i'd work for an extra month just to afford the 780, but that's just me. And with the power supply I'd make sure that theres a possibility to run two cards at once on it, just because in the future (2-3 years down the line), games will no doubt be more demanding so you may need another card. if you're planning on having this PC for a long time, i'd agree with arkenis and suggest a bigger HDD. Whilst the black is a good series, and 1tb is enough for a year or so (dependent on your uses), more is always better. I say this though, HDD prices will be as much as chips in 1-2 years time.. overall nice build ideas :D!
  8. I don't know how that'd fit... the current design includes only a few bits green and majortiy black.. yeah, green could go there, but would it look better? IMO, prolly not..
  9. you should also see if there are some rubber grommets(sp?) for your case. I personally prefer that and maybe your cable management might look a little neater as you wont see a whole in your mounting board. edit: though i've just seen what you added, and that isnt a bad improvement :D, those back board things you've got arent too bad..
  10. see i wanted this kinda set up but with the white windowed 600t and gtx 780. but i'd like to see how this turns out so ima follow this topic :D good luck setting up the h80i and the cpu socket (though i think even linus said himself that the socket size hasnt changed so there should be no prob there :))
  11. when looking for how fast a drive actually does perform, theres lots of reviews out there, but you do need to remember that different setups will yield different performances... samsung will have a Q&C limit, which the drive must before to or above (So a drive must be able to read/write at certain speeds, before being sold), so the drive itself may perform differently, worse or better then others.. luck of the draw im afraid, but SSDs are quick as hell, so at the end of the day, unless you're transferring TBs of storage a day, it wont matter if one drive is +/- 10MB/s quicker then another, you wont save much time for casual gaming/home use :)
  12. confirmed :) i've just switched it and now my graphics card's 2nd fan can breathe! 8degress difference :) windows ID'd the PCI and it automatically configured to the software I had already installed for the sound card.. thanks alot!
  13. so in my case, the other PCIe slot running @ x4?
  14. Hey guys, I'm the kinda guy that likes to know about everything, not in a social sense, but in a knowledge sense.. some would call me a knowledge whore I suppose.. Now anyways, I'm creating this topic so that I can ask this question: I own the ASUS M5A97 Mobo (1st revision), these are the PCIe ports it has -1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (blue) -1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black) -2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 -2 x PCI Now obviously, My GPU takes up two slots and I also have a sound card taking up the only available PCIe 2.0 x1 slot.. http://www.ixbt.com/mainboard/asus/m5a97-evo/board.jpg My question is, given the fact that there are other slots available (none of them being the exact same pin number/layout - see picture), would my Soundblaster recon 3d card work with any of the other ports given that the top two ports are occupied and the 3rd port is where its at already? (refer to mobo link above) thanks for reading/answering iWearKiltz
  15. I run it whenever I can, but I don't do it 24/7 as I'm sure my parents would hate the electricity bill! -AMD Bulldozer FX6100 @ 3.3Ghz (boosts to 3.9GHz usually when folding) -Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB RAM (don't know why some others have stated this, pretty sure it wouldn't have a massive effect on PPD) -Sapphire HD7850 2GB -Multiple HDDs -CX750M PSU I haven't really done a test on the average PPD... guess I should find out within these coming weeks as i'll be folding during revision for my upcoming exams..
  16. been doing this for a few weeks and hadn't noticed it had been set up at all for a team from this forum... just joined!
  17. I kinda understood this already.. although there are 1x16 and 1x8... so i could only do SLI/CF anyways.. what I was asking about was at what speed would the cards operate at within the slots? (i.e 2x8 slots)
  18. If you've video Linus' videos recently, then you should know that these TI cards are just a filler between the card above it and the the reference original card. at 1080p, nothing that powerful will be required, so a 660ti wouldn't be a bad bet, but like others have said 7950 may also take your fancy. check out benchmarks for the games you want to play and the 660ti, subtract 10-25fps and that's a possibility to what games may be in a years time. Just remember, 30fps is playable but will not immerse you fully in the game. iWearKiltz
  19. Hey guys, I've recently decided to build my second rig, and i'm waiting for all the Intel/Nvidida/AMD parts come out. I've learnt many things through watching videos on the net about Processors, Mobos etc etc.. I currently have running in my rig: -AMD Bulldozer FX6100 (3.3GHz-3.9GHz) -ASUS M5A97 (Revision 1) -Corsair Vengeance LP RAM 2x4GB (1332MHz - Fails to boot out of BIOS after manually switching to 1600MHz, and Auto selects 1332MHz. Bonus Question if you can find out why it does this) -AMD Radeon Sapphire HD7850 2GB -Creative Soundblaster Recon 3D -Western Digital 500GB Main HDD -Corsair CX750M PSU My main question is; I've searched over google already (i'm pretty independent in my learning) to find out (just out of interest) how many PCI expansions my processor can do (may not be correct termonology). I've done example searches for Intels i7 3770k, and that clearly states in what form the PCI-E speeds run at. When I look for my AMD version of this "PCI expansion configurations" I fail to find anything. So what is my PCI expansion possibilities All i've been able to find out is something about AM3+ bottlenecking with high-end graphics cards... though no specific details were given. Advanced thanks for reading/answering iWearKiltz
  20. to check the people who have retweeted: https://twitter.com/LinusTech/status/339654562858278912 to check that i've still retweeted it https://twitter.com/iWearKiltz good luck to everyone!
  21. good luck to everyone. but honestly, wouldn't mind this myself :)

    Sexy Cases

Think my vote has to go on the 650t. That's completely unbiased as my case is very ugly and can't compare even to half of these posted on this thread. So just by looking over, the white 600t,wow!
