  1. only non jailbroken way to do this is with the camera connection kit (which does exactly what you say) except it doesnt work for anything except importing photos to the ipad from the flash drive (and its actually a little more specific. needs it to think its a camera card). nothing lets you use the flash drive as storage for the ipad.
  2. you still missed what he's saying. he's saying the PHYSICAL KEYS have icons on them just like your have the letters printed on it. the functionality doesn't change between mac and pc keyboards but the pc keyboard isn't labeled properly (obviously) for mac. apple cant change whats printed on your keyboard.
  3. yes the "show all windows" is also available from the dock if you press and hold on the app, and theres a "show all tabs" in safari also.
  4. some wrong info about the finder. and usability. sort by is not system wide. when i say sort by name in one folder and sort by date in another they stay sorted that way separately. it also keeps the same view (icons, list, column) and the exact place you were scrolled to. and if that wasnt enough in addition to sort there is also arrange which will make separate lists which can then be sorted (ie if you have it sorted by name and arranged by kind you will have groups of each file type arranged by name) and that saves for each directory also. internal storage does NOT all just get piled together. there is a root for each drive individually (go menu->computer) except if you're using the fusion drive (which it explains when you chose which drive you buy, is a hdd mated to an sdd with software that automatically keeps the data that would most benefit from speed on the ssd) this can also be disabled after the fact (with a few quirks i admit). have never ever needed to refresh a folder on my mac to make a file appear. like ever. its always instant. donno what bug you stumbled into here but it is definitely not the norm. iphoto is not required to manage photos. you can get the same windows picture management experience if you change the default over to image capture rather than iphoto. and just as a general answer to some of the "questions" (probably rhetorical but w/e) a lot of the default settings (reversed scroll, non repeating keys, particular gestures for things, lots of "automatic-ness", etc) are there because a shockingly large percentage of mac users are people whos first apple product is an ipad or iphone and those settings are the same on ios. it makes it much less disorienting for a new user if they already know how their iphone works.
  5. dont tell people this, this isnt correct (you too linus). its not a CRT. retina imacs need only be unplugged for 2 minutes to allow the power supply to fully discharge. some of the last few generations needed up to an hour. ive personally be shocked by an imac power supply (not plugged in) and while i wouldnt recommend it, its far from fatal.
  6. ive seen a lot of "apple is dying" opinions for years and years, but i dont see the money train stopping anytime soon. couple of things to keep in mind: 1) apple has never been about market share. they're about profit. it doesnt matter if 79% of mobile users use android if apple is still raking in the majority of the mobile profits. and ios users have been shown to spend more money on things like apps, and use more of their mobile data (on average) which is attractive to developers and that can help with a positive feedback loop. 2) apple is buying back their own stock. massively. 3) apple watch. whether you like it or hate you just know that everyone and their mother will be wearing one in a few months, and apple is likely to hold the lead in that market for a few years (just like ipad and iphone)
  7. JAMF's Casper suite and Apple's Configurator are pretty awesome for mass device management. cant really make it any simpler. highly recommended.
  8. i just want to throw in that n has a transfer rate of about 450mbps, but while ac has a much higher speed, if you're not at least coming close to saturating 450mbps its not going to help much. aka its not going to make your 30mbps internet any faster. or mine will have better signal though so theres that
  9. i know what linux is lol. linux is not and to my knowledge never has been the standard for benchmarks. furthermore linux doesnt support all the functions that might factor into benchmarks. if anything windows should be used as a universal benchmark os, i have no idea where you're pulling this linux stuff from. "osx is beyond locked down" because it cant open certain files without a specific program? welcome to computers? there is not a massive difference in what osx can open natively and what windows can open natively. most common filetypes will be 100% compatible with both. even if there was a massive difference in file compatibility (which there is not), it doesnt make osx locked down. locked down means there isnt the ABILITY to do certain things. there is nothing stopping developers from creating apps that can open any kind of file you can think of. its not locked down. you could say "i dont use osx because i havent found a good program to deal with x" but that has nothing to do with how locked down the os is. speed tests and benchmarks are not irrelevant just because they're on separate OSs. the whole point is that the end user experience is going to be equal to, or in some cases better than the comparable android flagship. it makes no sense to say "test an iphone with android on it" because thats never something thats going to happen. what does make sense is saying "how long does it take to load a webpage, to power on the device, to switch between apps and how fluid is it" these are the tests that actually give you an idea of which phone performs better. test something both phones and both OSs can do and see which has a better real world experience. your note 3 is not better than an iphone 6+ just because the cpu is faster if the whole phone performs worse.
  10. with the exception of ios being locked down (no one can really argue this) i disagree with pretty much everything else. you have your causality backwards. ios isnt optimized because the hardware is weak, the hardware is weak because ios is optimized. they want the lowest clock, lowest power consuming components they can get because it means they can use smaller batteries and thinner phones. if you used the same size battery than an iphone uses in an android the battery life would be terrible, and yet due to the software optimization iphones can and do beat android phones in speed tests, benchmarks and smoothness. (not EVERY android, but many, and usually all at time of iphone launch) essentially apple is choosing to "underpower" their phones because they can give you a top notch performance experience with a physically smaller device. ipads and macs are not really "fucking weak" at launch either. even purely judging by benchmarks... as far as macs go, in what way is osx locked down? compared to linux maybe but compared to windows its not locked any more than usual. granted osx only works on supported hardware but thats the business strategy (obviously not intended to be used on non apple hardware) but the os itself is not limited to certain file types, thats only a limitation of the software you have installed. i can access all files on the machine same as windows, i can install anything from anywhere, etc. and why in gods name would you "need to have linux installed to properly evaluate hardware performance"? that makes no sense. do windows users install linux to evaluate their hardware?
  11. neither is a computer. we're talking about whether its overpriced
  12. as a mac user, i chuckled at the "once" every forum ive ever posted on has the anti-macs. the people who dont like macs but cant explain why, or just throw out constantly wrong information. (macrumors is one of the worst about false info) ive built up calluses from facepalming so often
  13. i think a lot of the options they give you are over priced, but most of things they make are just expensive. things apple overprices: -ram -storage -accessories -ipods but i think most of their machines are just expensive. i mean you wouldnt get mad at bmw for including leather seats... and anyone who has owned a $500 laptop knows its no macbook.
  14. good idea, ubisoft. says the guy who doesnt know how to drag windows or make folders on the desktop. why dont i research what im talking about more? /s
  15. sigh. market analysis from bossman111, everyone. you should probably stop digging before we start calling you ubisoft.
