i have an ip camera system
i use blue iris to manage the cameras
intel quad core xeon with a z87 board
    POE switch
3TB of storage on board WD RED drive
you wont need to compress the files unless your gunna ave a TON of cameras, as long as u have gigabit between server and NAS it will be fine

I have a surveillance system back-up built on a Celeron J1800 - but I only store the feeds on it, it doesn't do any re-coding
what I use it for - connects remotely to the DVR, that's ~20Km away, and records locally

I would steer away from the 390, not just because of my preference for the green team, but also because nvidia just launched new cards, so amd cant be that far behind.

Trying to be objective I would recommend buying a cheaper card (or bide your time with on-board), then buy from the new generation regardless of what team you are on.

From personal experience though, the flip side of the AMD coin is that you trade stability for the cheaper option. On paper they might be equivalent power at lower price and higher heat. But when you go to actually turn the system on, its easier to keep it on with team green. No fan-boy, speaking from personal experience.

I built a system a few weeks ago. What I did was get a used GTX 670 (approaching five years old), with overclock I get performance in between the 950 and 960 at 1080p. I bet it will keep up until the next Ti card drops, and then Ive got some time to save up for it in between

Its no use having more than a 50-100W margin above what you actually use, the only reason to go higher than that is if you get a good deal on a modular or higher rated PSU that just happens to have a higher wattage than needed too.

I went with a 650W when I only needed 450W, but that was only because I got the 650W with modular cables and gold rating, for only 10$ more than the non-modular bronze 450W I was originally going for

I'm quite sure there are SP Performance LED fans available, but keep in mind that the LEDs on those fans are weak, they only light up the fans themselves, not your system. I have them myself.

In threaded applications, the i7 could be faster than a skylake i5 due to hyperthreading and yes, the i7 2700k is a really capable chip still so there's not much reason not to go for it

    nah, it's not
current head sets are barely above 1080p, they are actually 2160x1200 and it's not per eye, it's the total resolution for both screens
and you're not running two games, you're still running same game just showing it in two different camera angles
since the resolution is so low it doesn't really matter, but applying some really clever math you could reduce the workload by a lot if anyone cared enough
but it's not going to take more horsepower than on a flat screen...
I mentioned Minecraft as an example, because it's one of the first games available in VR and it's pretty obvious that you don't need more power for the same game with VR or a flat screen
the complete answer is - it would depends on the game.
as far as chipset features, you'd need USB 3.0 for Oculus, which Z77 chipsets do have

there should be two header, one for pump one for the fan
just like a fan, u can do custom curve if your pump/motherboard supports it
not necessarily 100% at all times, but you can do that too no problem
depending on your ambient temp and a few other factors, play around with it
i would place some paper towels under the cpu block and on my gpu if the radiator is placed above just to ensure that even if there are leakage, it wouldnt fry my stuffs
probably do a test for about a week or so `-`

and dont panic if the aio makes noise, most probably because of air bubbles, but if it keeps making it after a week, probably a faulty pump/fan
