I have a generic 2gb kingston 1333mhz paired with 8gb hyperx fury 1866mhz, it runs at 1333 by default but i manually set it to 1600(limit of my cpu). Both(8gb+2gb) runs at 1600mhz on dual channel. -

maybe the guy you know who runs el-cheapo psu have el-cheapo hardwares in a computer lab setting 24/7

it is advisable that you use something from Seasonic or Corsair if you don't want fire hazard
