Hi, I'm Joe. I like to do stuff.
  1. I'd get a Quickfire Rapid-i. I just got a non back lit one after doing a bunch of research, and it's built like a tank. They're made by Costar, which is the OEM for other highly regarded keyboards like Filco.
  2. I have had HD380 Pros for a few years. They are absolutely the most comfortable headphones I have ever used, even better than my HD700's. They sound just fine unamped. The coiled cable is annoying at first, but I got used to it. I've had to re-pad them once, but other than that they have held up to a lot of abuse, drops, etc.
  3. The higher end Seasonics run without the fan on until it's under heavy load, and even then the fan is near silent.
  4. FiiO E10K + HD 598 A little closer to 300 than you may want to be at, but you can always get the amp/dac later on, as the headphones can be driven from a PC nicely.
  5. This. E10K is a good budget dac/amp, will pair very well with even higher end headphones.
  6. I've had cheap RCA cables hum when placed near power cords/mess of cables under desk. I've tried many different speaker cables, and the only difference that I could find is they look nice (even though you don't see them) and are built better. Optical Audio, USB, and other digital cables either work, or they don't. Since headphone cables are just carry analog signal, like speaker cables, I doubt there is much of a difference. Don't waste money on fancy cables, you'll get a much more noticeable increase in sound quality by upgrading your amp/dac/headphones.
  7. I've heard the HD600 before, and liked it. If I was going to buy a different model, like 700's, I'd audition them before buying them at a one of the Hi-Fi stores near me. I'm looking at getting the Magni/Modi. I've read that they work very well with the HD600's. For around $600 bucks total, it should be a pretty kickass setup.
  8. As much as I'd love to jump for HD700's or 800's, I have to account for the expense of a DAC and Amp as well.
  9. Alright, cool, they're back at the top of my list then. I try and take care of my stuff, so I shouldn't have a problem.
  10. I've read they changed the material for the HD558/598 so that it's more durable.
  11. I'm planning on getting some new headphones soon. Around $400, with some wiggle room. I like Sennheiser stuff, and have been taking a hard look at the HD600/650, but I'm worried about the numerous reports of the headband cracking in half with normal use. I had HD555's, which are notorious for it's own cracking problem, and after a few years, I had to replace them. Should I just risk having to cough up $100 for a new headband once in a while? Anyone know if Sennheiser has changed the design on newer production units?
  12. RMA it. Corsair even has a cross ship option, I believe, if you don't want any downtime.
  13. EVGA. Their customer service is the best I've ever dealt with.
  14. I've been eyeing this up lately. All aluminum, very bare bones, though. I'd recommend using the back fan as intake, as it is filtered, and the venting on the front and bottom will naturally exhaust because of the positive pressure. Lian-Li and Silverstone also have some nice compact mATX cases, but they're more expensive.
