  1. Its in a leather holster with a throng over the hammer and the trigger is covered by the holster. So I cant really kill myself with it. It's kinda more behindish the pillow than under it too so yeah it's really not that bad. I've seen those safes but it seems like they take too long to get into.
  2. I tend to shut my bedroom door as there are other people in the house, though I dont lock it I'm a light sleeper, and I keep a Ruger Security Six .357 magnum under my pilllow so... Exterior doors get locked and have magnetic alarms though.
  3. Display Fusion will allow taskbar extension in windows 7 and has quite a few other little nice things for multiple monitors. I cant live without it these days. https://www.displayfusion.com/
  4. Back in my day we had to drag our hdds uphill...in the snow..to write to them...or something...*waves cane* Nothing quite like the knocking sound of the Seagate ST-251s, you kids today and your fancy silent solid states. This old 43 megabyte drive transferred at 5 mb/s. (I was surprised to actually find a video with the noise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTu-1dLegzI )
  5. I recall Everquest 2 did that years ago, there was a promotional thing for a time where you could type /pizza and order one.
  6. Cheap headsets, lots of cheap headsets, back in the day. They would break after about 5 to 6 months and id just buy a new one >.>
  7. I still think the 290 vapor-x from sapphire is a nice looking little thing.
  8. Anyone else seen this floating around yet? It looks like a "PC Gamer Facebook alternative" or so it seems. It's kinda basic and is apparently being worked on still, but they didn't launch very long ago. Figured somebody here might like it. Might be worth a look at least? Supposedly there's no ads or anything. *shrug* https://lanyardnetwork.com/
  9. Ive been using these little trendnet switches for years and installed alot of them, never had a problem with em. Supports jumbo frames too. If you happen to need more than 8 ports they are cheap enough to just stack them. ( they do make a 16 but its more expensive than two of those.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156250 Oh, I didn't mean you would be streaming games from the nas, I meant the nas would be handling other tasks, as to not make your main box work harder, while the main box was streaming games. Though it looks like you may not have any issues with that from what I am understanding. Sounds like youll be pretty good for now. Start like that, and add stuff as you need it. And that sounds like a great internet plan to me, should be plenty.
  10. 4G home router. 10Mb/s down, 1Mb/s up, No Cap ( I pay 40$ a month extra for this.) 120$ a month. (Its the sticks, its this, or dialup. We only got this around 2 years ago.)
  11. I am kind interested to see if Sapphire might do something creative with a custom liquid cooling loop for it or something. Or maybe they will just stick with the Vapor-x design. The vapor-x does look nice.
  12. Sorry it took me so long to reply Ive been a little sick. http://trendblog.net/creative-and-useful-ways-to-use-nfc-tags-with-your-smartphone/ Here is a good list for things to do with NFC and there are tons more on google. Well with a nas you can do other things, without putting stress on your main box. Depends on if its just you utilizing your network and what you are doing I suppose. I've got stuff I probably couldn't find on the net anymore period so I don't run storage without Raid Z2. (essentially improved raid 6, ZFS with FreeNas is great.) Plus if you are running Plex, ftp, file sharing, rsync (automated backup), windows backup, (my phones also do automated to it), transmission, and btsync off it like I do, that's less that your main has to take care of. Especially if you were say streaming to your living room with steam streaming and a backup starting happening. Additionally the more hard drives you stack in your main gaming rig, the more heat you are introducing. There's also the need for a larger power supply if you add too many. Though its all about how you slice it, pros and cons everywhere. I ran that way for years, till I finally got my setups how I wanted. Well wireless HDMI would work if your pc is close enough to the other screen for keyboard/mouse/controller that would be dandy and easy. Though all it does is mirror the screen, not the controls, so if its in another room it'll be an issue. And as far as streaming it over wireless (at least G, not much joy there) you'll need at least gigabit. Ive toyed with it on 100meg line..it does work, but it works a lot better over gigabit. Also pro tip, you can take cat 6 (or 5e, whichever) and run it along the baseboards by the carpet (If you have carpeting, no joy on hardwood.) and depending on how the carpet was laid and the baseboard put on, easily nudge it underneath the trim so you cant even see it. I have done this many times on IT jobs at peoples houses and they were very satisfied with it. If you have a small piece of dowel rod or something similar it helps to push it gently between the baseboard and the carpet.
  13. Set up some NFC chips on various things, to make your life a little easier. If you Google around there is really no limit to what you can do with the buggers. Might not be super high tech, but a decent quality vacuum is a really nice thing to own. (One of those little handheld Dustbuster types is nice too.) A nice NAS to centralize your data storage? (I finally built one and never looked back. Added Plex server too it and its amazing.) A good quality switch, if you have alot of network load. Takes the strain off of those built in switches on the router/modem/switch things isps tend to push on you. A good 8-16 port gigabit switch with jumbo frame support and cat 6 will do wonders for your throughput. This. ^ Was going to recommend good lighting/bulbs too, but why...when you can get it straight from the horse's mouth.. (Sorry I couldn't help myself, I love bad puns. )
  14. 20 year old IBM Model M keyboard from 94. Still looks brand new, no real yellowing to speak of. You can pry it from my cold dead hands.
