i may consider an upgrade kit for my samsung abomination.. but i honestly should just throw it away and buy something that's not held together by tape, glue, and hope.

@FloRolf This one was pretty easy. However, laptops before intel 4th gen typically used the 40 pin LVDS display data protocol, and 4th gen and up typically used 30 pin eDP instead.
Good LVDS screens are kinda rare, but good eDP screens are pretty common.
Getting a 30 pin eDP screen into an LVDS laptop required a mod board that converted LVDS to eDP.
Even with that it was quite easy.
Another thing to look out for is how many data channels the screen needs (think dual link vs single link DVI) Some crap laptops have less of the wires fitted in the screen cable, requiring a cable upgrade if its even available to upgrade screen resolutions.
From what I've seen, pretty much any 30 pin eDP 1080p screen will work in an eDP laptop, and IPS displays are common and cheap
