Repeat above process. But now, when installing battery back and turn it ton, go to BIOS and search for preffered graphics or something, and switch to external. There must be some option like that. After that, save BIOS settings and shut down, install the GTX and try to boot.

What model GPU? Remove GPU and plug in DVI port on Motherboard, then remove battery on motherboard, wait 1 minute, put battery in, start system without GPU. If it boots and shows stuffs on display, install GPU, plug monitor cable into GPU.
