  1. So I'm looking to put a server in our server rack where I work with a plex server and eventually some other things. Maybe a FreeNAS backup or something. Anyways he has an extra one with specs as follows, is it a good deal? 1x E5 2690 32GB DDR3 1600 x9srl-f motherboard 10 hot swap bays 10Gb NIC LSI 9265-8i $400
  2. Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield. A lot of FPS games
  3. I do some light gaming so latency is a little bit of a concern. Other than that its just a lot of video streaming, I use Philo for Satellite TV through the internet and also Netflix, Web browsing, etc. Also my phone does Wi-Fi calling most of the time I'm home. I don't get very good signal were I'm at, very rural area so it switches from LTE to Wi-Fi almost everytime.
  4. So right now I've got 12Mbps download through ADSL2+. The ISP that provides that actually offers a bonded VDSL service that provides 25Mbps down for less than I pay now. The other option would be a WISP PTP that could provide 20Mbps down. Also I work for a company that is VERY closely partnered with the WISP. If I had service issues or needed a couple public IPs I think I could get them easily. Pricing is very similar, I WISP was about $40 more however since they work with the company I work for they lowered their pricing. Which would you choose, I'm worried about latency and weather interference with the PTP.
  5. I have one Ubiquiti AP that needs POE but honestly I could just use the injector since it's just a single device.
  6. So in my hunt for a switch to fit INSIDE my media panel (Max width is 14.25") I have narrowed down my choices to these two. I've never used Netgear's or D-Link's web management software and its not even really something I need but out of the two which would you choose? Netgear ProSAFE (JGS524PE) D-Link DGS-1100-24P Two other choices would be these Cisco's but I don't like that they don't have POe. Cisco WS-C2960L-16TS-LL Cisco SG112-24
  7. So I did a backup of a customers SSD using Macrium Reflect. Basically I just used the disc imaging tool and copied the whole disc. Now I am running into a NTFS permission problem. I take ownership of a file but when I click on the file it simply won't open. Usually get a output of not a supported file format even though it is or missing part of file. HELP
  8. Is the P2P service available through an app?
  9. Those look impressive just on paper for the price. Plus like mentioned there is BNC coax already run so this would make my life so much easier. I would definitely crimp some new connectors on but other than that it would cut my labor in half!! I very much like!
  10. Do you know how those would compare to something like Ubiquiti? I see the Axis product generally are running about $100 more than UBNT.
  11. I got contacted by a friend of mine to come out and look at some camera's at his business. Hes currently running a mix of fisheye and bullet cameras and all of them are analog. Its a Nuvico branded system but literally can't find any model or information or anything that remotely resembles the installed DVR. The equipment is about 15+ years old and over half of the cameras aren't working. Sometime this week I'm going to go out and do some more digging around to see if working with his old equipment is even an option. I want to be able to give him a couple possibilities however and wanted to ask what your guys favorite camera systems are?? If I'm putting in new equipment I personally would like to go poe and run everything back to a central server however I would like opinions on that too. Thanks
  12. I recently fixed an iPhone 6S for a friend. A couple weeks later the backlight started messing up on one corner of the screen. I bought another screen of a different brand but it did not solve the problem, I offered to actually buy her a new phone. I felt bad that it could have possibly been my fault. The next day after she left my house that night before I noticed something was missing off my desk. I hadn't touched the thing in forever and knew that it was there before she came. I messaged her about it and she immediately denied knowing anything about it and said if I didn't give her $600 that she was going to file a lawsuit. Could that even be a thing???
  13. I'm looking for a good laptop, definitely needs a SSD in it. I can't really find anything under $500. I found THIS open box laptop on Newegg and I could pick up a 256GB SSD for next to nothing. Opinions on that option or is there better?? HELP I could throw this SSD in it https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820168335
  14. Noticed today that the Xbox One X 1TB Console - Project Scorpio Edition is back in stock FROM Microsoft on eBay. Already bought me one just for the hell of it. Its basically the same price as the standard One X. Go get it!!
  15. They are a very large boat but mine moves pretty quick. I'll post some 0-60 and 1/4 mile times in here in a few days.
  16. I never even thought about that stuff but that sounds like a much better idea. You think it would be okay with just a 1x3 or 1x2 around the back and sides? It won't have more than like 50lbs on it. Just misc. storage and a very small tower server.
  17. So I'm looking for a RAID controller under $100. It only has to have at least 4 SATA ports or if it's SAS I can get the breakout cables (cables not included in $100), I don't necessarily need a write cache, they're just being used on a Plex server. Its going in a standard mid tower style case so PCI/E with a full height slot.
  18. Haha, right. Its not the fastest but its super quick since its all wheel drive. I've beat a lot of higher HP vehicles in a 1/4 mile.
  19. So I was thinking about putting laminate countertops in my closet as shelving. I have those white wire shelves right now and I absolutely hate them, stuff falls through the wire and its hard to set my server on. I have no problem doing the work and putting in the laminate countertops but the only question I have is what is going to be the best way to support these? Countertops are meant to set on cabinets wheres theres support all the way across the bottom. Would a 2x4 brace work across the middle? Thanks
  20. Just wanting to get opinions on how it would work. Budget is about $500 per monitor.
  21. Has anyone ever wall mounted their computer monitors? I'm looking into a set of 32" monitors and I thought about maybe wall mounting them right above the desk. I thought it would give a clean and simple look but the only thing that worries me would be the inability to be able to adjust them horizontally but I don't think it would be bad, especially if they were a matte display. Ideas?
  22. So I pulled my jeans out of the dryer this morning only to see a neon green thumb drive, case half melted.... lying on the bottom of the dryer. Whoopsie So I figured it wouldn't work after being through a wash and a dryer cycle but I plugged the thing in and my computer loaded the drivers and opened file explorer and my Windows 10 ISO is still there. Still boots so I was very impressed even if this thumb drives victory is short lived... Which it probably is Its just a cheap $10 Sandisk 16GB drive, all plastic housing.
  23. Basically only need the drive for operating system, and programs such as Plex, Ubiquiti UniFi controller, and random other programs... Putty, etc. All of my Plex media and backed up files are stored on a separate RAID array of hard drives. Server is fairly barebones, 8GB RAM, Xeon quad-core (non-hyperthreading). Interface is PCIe 3.0
  24. I've been crazy busy the past year but I've got a new job now as a network engineer. I'm getting back around to finishing up some projects and I would like to put a NVME PCIe SSD in my home server. Any recommendations on what PCIe SSD is best right now? Looking to stay under $500 or near**
