One thing to try, although be careful with this as it can make your windows instance non-bootable, (I recommend just disconnecting the windows drive while you attempt) look for any 'Legacy' boot option in Bios. Sometimes switching between UEFI or Legacy boot option in bios can help with this. Also, inside BIOS, try disabling any other SATA devices that are listed, try enabling Legacy USB support, try making sure ANY other peripheral devices (webcams, KVM's, etc.) are all disconnected. Connect only your linux boot drive and remove any other peripherals except for monitor and keyboard + installer USB. Good luck friend!

Right now I just have some older Bose speakers that plug directly to my mobo via 3.5mm cable. I have thought about getting some studio monitors to pair with the Scarlett Solo but there are an overwhelming amount of options to choose from. Preferably I'd like something that can be placed on the desktop without taking up a ton of room but I'm open to any recommendations. Budget = less than $400

Can a 240 watt psu run a gtx 1050 low profile??
KentuckyJones replied to Falox's topic in Graphics Cards
I think he just means find a similar power supply on pcpartpicker and pair it with the GTX 1050 and see if pcpartpicker gives you a warning like "woah dude you crazy! NEEDS MORE POWER". Honestly though I think you'll be totally fine- 10 replies

I'm sure you could run the card with that PSU but you might not get the full potential of the card since it won't be able to draw full power.- 10 replies

Hey Everyone, So I've been using this system for a while and just wanna know if people think my GPU isn't beefy enough for my CPU. I have a GTX 970 Superclocked and an i7-990x in my system and I feel like I should be getting better performance when running different games or workloads. I'm currently using a 1440p monitor and I tend to crank most settings in game, minus AA, but for some reason I can only hit a max of about 50 FPS. Also, I have noticed a few times while streaming that I have some hitching in the video, but I just equate that to my 100Mbps internet not being able to keep up. Don't get me wrong some other games I get above 60 FPS on Ultra settings, but I wanted to get your opinions to see if you think my CPU is being bottlenecked by my GPU. I know it's a 6 year old CPU but it's still an Extreme Series Processor so I would imagine the CPU isn't the issue here. Let me know what you think. BTW I mainly use this system for photo/video editing, streaming, and gaming. Oh yeah and cat videos

my first build...won't turn on...
KentuckyJones replied to Pancake2k's topic in New Builds and Planning
There should be a set of pins near the fpanel connectors that is labeled cmos. Whats the model of your mobo? -
This is probably the dumbest question ever but is there a way to change my displayname on the forum? Thanks all

Yeah definitely make sure you're using the manual that came with your mobo -

You can try clearing the cmos, you can do this by completing the CMOS circuit simply by touching the CMOS headers with a screwdriver. Just make sure you touch them both at the same time. (I'm not trolling this will not negatively effect your system) -
Hi All, I bought this keyboard on Massdrop(Red Kailh Switches) about a year ago. It has been phenomenal since the day I bought it, but has lately been registering long key-presses although I'm quickly removing my finger from the key. Do I just need to clean my keycaps or do I need to clean the switches themselves? Basically what happens is while I'm typing a word like error it comes out as eerrrrrrorrrrrr. Help me https://www.massdrop.com/buy/keycool-104-rgb-mechanical-keyboard

Building my partner his first real pc
KentuckyJones replied to KentuckyJones's topic in New Builds and Planning
Hey all sorry for not getting back sooner. He will be using it for gaming and productivity. He plays Heroes of the Storm, but also plays more demanding titles like The Witcher 3. Budget is about $1,700 USD, I had been looking at the i7 4790 but I'm hearing that i5's (6600K) can be overclocked to have similar performance as the i7. Is this true or not recommended? I've never overclocked before but I'm willing to learn in order to get the best bang for my buck. Also, I'm stumped between the 980 ti, GTX 1070, or 1080. If you have recommendations for Team Red I'm open as well as I have never had issues with AMD in the past. Any help is good help Nice build BTW! Thanks for all the help and replies folks -
I've built PC's in the past but they have all been for work or family. Recently, my partner let me know that he wanted to join the PCMR and I happily obliged. The biggest dilemma I had was choosing a CPU and GPU. With all the new stuff coming out (ie: GTX 1080, RX 480) I haven't been able to make up my mind on components. Any help or recommendations at all are supported. Thank you
