  1. My current graphics card is a Radeon 5770
  2. Looks like a great way to enhance family movie night w/o terribly increasing the clutter.
  3. Just got blocked on Twitter by @paulshardware for suggesting imprisoning people who've never been suspected (at least by anyone in actual authority), let alone convicted, of any crime might be a bit fascist. Granted, political prisoners are common in any authoritarian regime be it fascist, communist, etc. but, whereas communism disallows any personal gain whatsoever requiring all be equally(at least in theory) sustained by the state, fascism simply requires that all individuals be governed/regulated/controlled for the greater good of the state(Socialism would have you replace the word "state" with "people" but, as history has shown us time and again, both ultimately refer to an elitist oligarchy who believe themselves better able to profitably control their fellow people's lives than they are themselves). Fortunately, we live in a democratic republic and, though we daily grow closer to the socialist ideal so wonderfully envisioned in "1984", we have not yet reached the point where prosecutors are above the law and people may be imprisoned for making a living or expressing an opinion that does not tip its hat to the powers-that-be. Suggesting that they should be, regardless of what flavor of authoritarian govt. you ascribe to(knowingly or not), is dangerous in a way that no-one whose family has not been subject to a midnight knock on the door from the "authorities" can understand. If believe people to be guilty of a crime, find proof and bring it to the authorities. Suspicion is not guilt and the intimation that such should be sufficient grounds for punishment is a very dangerous and slippery slope indeed. It's not funny.
  4. I'm broke and living on a fixed income so that's not changing anytime soon and I've already had to disconnect one of my drives to stop the constant clicking sound as Windows tries to mount it. The drive is a TB and I honestly don't remember what was on it anymore so it can't have been that important but anything that helps me backup any of my data is welcome in my computer.
  5. I'm not suggesting R&D for an entirely new feature, just incorporating existing tech in the proper combination for a phone that is high tech w/o being wasteful. You're also assuming that only LTT viewers would buy it but a quality phone at a decent price w/a proper marketing job including endorsement from the highest rated tech channel on an international platform... even people who don't necessarily know who you are would respect such a statement. It'd also be a tremendous new draw for your company. As for factories in China, they will use whatever specs and QC you tell them to. It's just a question of making contact with a reputable manufacturing plant. The better ones will even lend their engineering expertise to aid in design and QC.
  6. Don't sell yourself short. You're the face of 2,000,000 people. What's the worst they can say? No?
  7. There is a big difference between the multitude complaining about different aspects of a multitude of phones over a period of years and someone coming to them with a mapped out program and popular backing.
  8. If enough interest were shown would you ask a company that knows what they're doing if they would consider having you consult on (and possibly co-brand) such a phone?
  9. Even if it took into account every complaint and compliment you've ever made about a phone?
  10. He'd either have to collaborate w/ an existing company or make contact w/ a factory in China and have them make a run to his specs Hence the caveat of "assuming, of course, that you could afford it". Just a guess but it would likely be black w/orange highlights.
  11. He's told me he's not interested in the hassle but maybe if enough interest is shown he could be convinced to design and market a flagship phone w/all the good but none of the bad/pointless. We're talking satisfying buttons properly placed, front facing stereo speakers, reasonable resolution screens w/ good color reproduction that won't kill the battery, proper ports, a decent sized battery, a reasonable camera w/ a decent sensor, etc. I get the feeling people are voting no b/c they don't think it could happen. The point of this poll is gauge what you would do if it did and possibly give Linus the backing he would need to make it happen. If you voted no on with the assumption that it can't please rethink or remove your vote.
  12. Dude, If you love it go for it. Math is not nearly as important to programming as logic and creativity. A program may involve math but that will be mostly incidental. Programming is more like a game where you have to communicate to a very literal minded individual (the computer) a specific task you want it to perform while being limited to a very small collection of words. If you can figure out the most efficient use of those words, how many times each one is used and in what arrangement, you win the game. BTW, my best friend is making 6 figures now overseeing his own team of programmers and he still sucks at doing basic arithmetic in his head. Board games w/him are always interesting and often involve opening up a calculator for verification.
  13. Found out today after several days of trouble-shooting my Cousin's "computer problems" when I finally went over in person that the reason none of my "solutions" were working is because the computer was donated by his kid's school and they never bothered to give him administrative access. Hours of pulling my hair out, making sure he understood every step of every possible solution I offered to "it doesn't work and it's not recognizing anything" when the GD computer is asking for a password. It never occurred to him to read the damn thing... just filed it under the broad category of "it didn't work" and moved on. Might as well call AAA to say your car won't start, talk it through with the operator for an hour, finally call a tow and, when he gets there, finally mention you don't actually have the key to the car. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They view the computer as some magical device to which not even the attempt at logic need apply. When I finally got it through to him that he needed a password (I could have and probably will still have to back up everything and perform a factory reset but I was too annoyed at the time) i.e. got him to READ THE FRICKING SCREEN, I asked if he had one and, no surprises here, it had never occurred to him or anyone else in the family to ask. They've just been sitting using a "student" account on a computer they have owned for over a month now that just didn't work right all the time. I soooooooooooooooo wanted to punch him. Talk about wasting my time.
  14. I'll give it a shot next time I can get him to bring it over (hopefully this week, prob. next) and I'll let you know. Thanks.
