  1. This would be better suited for the Graphics Cards subforum rather than Tech News and Reviews https://linustechtips.com/main/forum/16-graphics-cards/ Here are the guidelines for posting on Tech News and Reviews
  2. Now in what can only be seen as a response to Snapchat's Looksery powered filters; Facebook has acquired MSQRD, the recently popular filter app known for the growing face-swapping trend. As stated by MSQRD CEO Eugene Nevgen on their website: http://msqrd.me/joining-facebook.html and as confirmed by a Facebook spokesperson to TechCrunch: http://techcrunch.com/2016/03/09/facebook-acquires-video-filter-app-msqrd-to-square-up-to-snapchat/ The actual sum for the acquisition is as of yet undisclosed, but presumably it's a huge discount to the $3billion Facebook was willing to offer up to snap Snapchat over two years ago. I am curious to see how the face-swapping and filtering tech would be integrated in Facebook's ecosystem.
  3. Sourced from PCGAMER, for all you masked, trench coat donning, script kiddies out there: No specific dates mentioned as of yet, but expect it sometime between April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017. I bet it will be released April 1 for April Fools, considering how the first game fooled everyone with the downgrade.
  4. There weren't any specifics mentioned back then. Now they have announced the full timeline.
  5. Sourced from Mozilla: https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/t/firefox-os-connected-devices-announcement/6864 Here's the crux of the announcement: Firefox OS was initially shown in 2013 aiming for a platform focussed on a web-first approach. They were targeting low end markets but ultimately were doomed to fail once android devices ramped up their low-end focus. Have you had a chance to try their OS? It interested me but I never was in the market for low-end phones.
  6. Sourced from the Verge: http://www.theverge.com/2016/2/4/10912250/apple-pay-patent-virnetx-facetime-imessage It seems Apple gotta pay the troll toll, in fact this is the second time they got sued from the same company. An interesting tidbit is both cases were in the same court The patent troll's previous victims also include Microsoft for $200 million and Skype for $23 million. Somebody call the Newegg troll-hunter... Edit: Here's some background info on the troll courtesy of arstechnica: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/02/jury-apple-must-pay-626-million-to-patent-troll-virnetx/
  7. I'm pretty sure all modern phones actually have solid state storage. Unless you mean to tell me they had mechanical storage phones?
  8. Samsung has posted confirmed details of #TheNextGalaxy on their website linked here: https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-galaxy-unpacked-2016-invitation Their 14 second teaser: And for those of you out of the loop, here's a quick recap provided by venturebeat: http://venturebeat.com/2016/01/31/samsung-confirms-galaxy-s7-event-for-february-21/ For your convenience, here are the inlined images of the quoted pics: Here's an inline image of that twitter pic and another one: I really hope this Galaxy goes back to the roots that Samsung previously abandoned. Guess we'll see in a couple weeks time at the unveil.
  9. Fine Brothers Entertainment have just recently posted the conclusion to their React saga on medium. Link here: https://medium.com/@FineBrothersEnt/a-message-from-the-fine-brothers-a18ef9b31777#.yo5jkbx45 Filtering through their PR speak, here's what they plan on doing It will be interesting to see how this affects their current downward subscriber trend which has been hemorrhaging several thousands over the course of this whole affair.
  10. It was purposely done, not everyone is up to speed with it, so this way it reinforces that. Plus how else was I gonna squeeze in those puns?
  11. Hope you know your ABC's, cause Alphabet has surpassed Apple as the world's most valuable public company. The sources speculate that it may be due to Apple's iPhone sales posting its slowest growth while Alphabet: Here's a neat visual of the progression: As you can see, the tides previously turned in favour of Apple around 2010, before the first iPad was soon released. This all happened during after-hours trading so it will be interesting to see how long G for Alphabet comes before A for Apple. 12. It actually means the complete opposite. The limitations in this case is the ability for W10 Home users to control the update process. Automatic and non-deferrable updates.
  13. The 5820k will be used for computing the digits of pi to break the current record
  14. Update: Samsung has indeed acknowledged the issue and is prepping up a firmware fix, though without any mentioned ETA. We will hopefully be able to resume basking in the SSD speeds of yore without scraping out a defrag every once in a while.
