  1. PCPartPicker has H110 boards for around 115$. This puts the 200GE less than 10$ cheaper. If I go for the more expensive R3 2200G or i3 8100, any favorite here in your opinion ?
  2. Cool ! Any reason to favor AMD over Intel ? Both CPUs are similarly priced and performance is comparable from what I've read. Maybe AMD's stock cooler is a bit better?
  3. Ok thanks ! Any thoughts on what motherboard to get (whether it's on intel or AMD's side) for a current gen CPU? Given I don't need much in terms of features, would the cheapest mini itx board at the time be alright?
  4. Hi all, I want to build a cheap mini ITX computer for my living room that will be used for browsing the web, watching 4K movies and not much else. I will not game on this computer ! The reason for mini ITX is that I already have an enclosure and a PSU for it, and I like the form factor. Since I won't be gaming on it, I figure I'll go for an integrated graphics solution. I'd need : CPU, Motherboard, RAM. (I already have an SSD and a HDD lying around). I thought about going for an i3 8100 or an 2200G, but I'd like your recommendations. Is there any chance I can find used parts on ebay? If so, what generation or what CPU should I be looking for? Performance wise, I had a FX-6300 with a GTX 960 for a while and it suited me well enough (the graphics performance doesn't really matter though). Note : I'm in Canada if any of that matters for used parts on Ebay...
  5. My external 1Tb WD hard drive fell from my desk. At first it showed up in file explorer, but I couldn't open any files. I can't remember the error message exactly but it had something to do with file directory. I rebooted everything and now it doesn't show up in file explorer. When I open disk manager, it prompts me to initialize the disk. If I'm not mistaken, I should not do that since it would format it. In disk manager, it shows as unallocated. The drive contains mainly movies and music that I want to keep (around 500Gb). Is there a solution to repair it? I don't mind having to buy a program for that as long as it's not too expensive. Many thanks
  6. Thank you all. Seeing that the Thinkpad is better built and seems to have an ok screen I think I'll tell her to go for this despite not having great gaming performance... If I find one with decent integrated graphics it looks like it might work though.
  7. Let's say she drops the gaming aspect. Her best bet would be a Thinkpad ?
  8. Hey there, My girlfriend is looking for a new laptop for school and I thought I'd check here for advice. We live in Canada and her budget is between 600$ and 700$ CAD. She's going to be using it for web browsing, office applications, watching movies and stuff. Oh and she wants it to run The Sims 4... She doesn't really want a Chromebook and prefers Windows. She's looking for solid build quality, nice looks and something that's going to last her a couple years. Thanks! Edit : touchscreen is not a must have either
  9. Cool! I have a Razer Blackwidow with cherry mx blues, a Razer Deathadder and a pair of Atro A40s
