Bad luck with the CPU i got? i7 4770k

hello everyone thanks for taking your time to analyse and respond to my post...

Situation is: ive built a water-cooled system and as obvious im trying to overclock the cpu,,,

for better idea the system specs can be found here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/49441-blood-red-rog-wc/

ill mention the parts related somewhat to the issue at hand.

CPU: i7 4770k delidded and with Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra applied

MObO: Asus Maximus VI Formula

RAM: G.Skill Trident X 16Gb(4x4Gb) 2400mhz

PSU: Corsair AX1200i

i have watched many overclocking guides, even especific to my cpu and mobo,, i dont consider myself expert very well prepared

so far i can overclock to 4.6 even 4.7 in the cpu as long as i dont touch the ram speed(mhz) which is then left behind at 1333 stock

that i obviously dont like, otherwise i wouldnt have bought a 2400 kit,,,lol as soon as i activate the XMP to 2400 blue screen comes

in at windows boot up,,, but memory works fine at 2400 as long as i dont overclk the cpu,,, what a problem lol

so either i use 2400  memory and no CPU overclk,,, or i overclk the cpu but no RAM XMP...

i have played with the voltages a bit looking for the sweet spot but with 2400 XMP max i can push the cpu is 4.1ghz

is not bad but i was hoping for more especially with the watercoiling stuff u know?!?!

Question is: Bad luck with the parts selected? any suggestions?

Thanks

No memory controler lives through both CPU and RAM overclocking. Sorry not happening, you have to leave RAM alone at lower clocks.

It's just the way it is, the more CPU is oc-ed the less stable is high frequency RAM.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

CPU: Phenom II x6 1045t ][ GPU: GeForce 9600GT 512mb DDR3 ][ Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P ][ RAM: 2x4GB Kingston 1333MHz CL9 DDR3 ][ HDD: Western Digital Green 2TB ][ PSU: Chieftec 500AB A ][ Case: No-name without airflow or dust filters Budget saved for an upgrade so far: 2400PLN (600€) - Initial 2800PLN (700€) Upgraded already: CPU

Oc the cpu or the ram--can't do both. Oc'ing one makes oc'ing the other more unstable.

Part of the reason why it's pretty pointless to get high frequency ram.

Yeah.....I've heard that the Haswell's don't like O.C.'d RAM

Keep the O.C. on the CPU, because that's high for Haswell (you won the Silicone Lottery)

Leave the RAM at 1333......it will work just fine.

What a lie they sell then,

whats the point on doing high freq ram like those at 3000mhz that they so advertise for HASwell,

if its not gonna be stable so funny... just for show,,, just because?

Is very stupid cause my ram comes advertised as 2400 for sure,,, thats total BS

Thanks for the reply btw

PS: well at least i got it to 4.1Ghz CPU at 2400Mhz RAM its not bad i guess,,, maybe i can put the ram at lower and see if i can push it to 4.4ghz

u gotta understand me it sucks having 1333 when u espect 2400 out of the box :(

It's stable if you don't oc your cpu.

It's not a lie as it is common knowledge that oc'ing your cpu is pushing beyond factory standards that may introduce instability.

I'm pretty sure Intel themselves do not recommend OCing even K series processors.

Overclock at your own risk. Liability issues.

Just because it is rated for it.........doesn't mean it will do it.

Besides Haswell officially only supports DDR3 up to 1600MHz out of the box. :) official specification.

So you dont overc your stuff then?

I do but I'm just telling you they did not lie.

Nobody said oc'ing is guaranteed to be stable.
