Trying to improve my WiFi signal

KraftDinner

So I have a modem that was provided by my ISP connected to my Linksys router, now the router supports 802.11n and the modem supports 802.11b/g/n. Right now I have 2 channels (one for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz), the problem is that my connectivity is great until I get to the other side of the house, it becomes really weak. Now when using 802.11n is it possible to make on of the channels 40Mhz for better connectivity? Will this even help? Still a bit new in the networking world so let me know if I anything is wrong with this setup too, any help is appreciated!

I was reading one time that microwaves can limit wifi signal. maybe try to put it in a central part of the house.
