What radiator for this ?

Hi guys,

I'm going to build a watercooled loop for my 2 R9 280x and i was wondering how much radiators i need, i have a Silent Base 800 windowed and it's not really the best for watercooling, i think i can fit one double 120 or 140 on top and one 120 or 140 front, will it be enough ?

Sorry about the bad english guys and thank you for your time/help :)

I should have precised it as it's uncommon but i won't have my CPU watercooled by this loop as it already have a dark rock 3 and i'm really happy with it.

So i guess 3 rads will be enough then ?

If it's just the gpu then it's enough but just barely. Also since you have an air cooler for the cpu, prepare for that to increase a bit as you're blocking it's intake with rads. Although you would still have rear intake, so you're cpu is not totally choked (this config will give u negative air pressure so be prepared to dust)

First of all thanks for answering guys :)

I don't really have a choice since i don't have that much emplacements available for my radiators but i managed to have 2 intakes and 3 exhaust, not the best but still good i guess.

My cpu runs 50 degree stock with the fan at his lower voltage so i don't have a big fear for this one, anyway i hope it will work, here's the components i'll use, if anyone wants to correct something or if someone is in the same trouble i am i hope it can help.

Gpu waterblock : EK Water Blocks EK-FC 7970/ R9 280x Acetal Nickel CQS

Pomp : EK Water Blocks EK-DCP 4.0 12V PWM (800L/H)

Radiator 120 : Alphacool ST30 120 full copper

Radiator 280 : Alphacool ST30 280 full copper

Reservoir : EK Water BLocks EK-BAY SPIN Reservoir Acetal CSQ

Liquide : Nanoxia CoolForce CF1 AquaPure Water 1000ml (x2)

Nozzle : 10mm for 1/4" its generic (I was wondering how many do i need btw)

Pipes : High flexible Tubing from Masterkleer 10/13mm UV reactive

Because i don't have anywhere to put my pomp i'll take a velcro fixation, i'll glue one part to the chassie and the other to the pomp.

For the fans i'll use only silent wings by Be quiet !, since my purpose is the silence and those fans go 15.7/15.8 dB at their full speed 1000/1500rpm, i know they're not the best for SP but they still have a good score

Thanks guys !

Edit : I have a rheobus to control my case fans and i was wondering if it would be possible to automate the process since i will not have the possible to monitor the temps of my GPUs during game (I only have one screen), my motherboard bios don't have the qfan possibility so i can't associate those to my CPU like "if the cpu heats i'm in game so the gpus too", the objectiv being silence i don't want my fans to be full RPM all the time (15.7db on 6 fans is loud :()

Thanks for the answer mate

I'm currently overclocking my GPU's but since they are in crossfire the extra heat of the lowest one really impacts the highest one, that's part of the reason why i want to watercool them.

For the fans since i can't take very thick radiators i figured i needed some SP of course but i needed some airflow too (maybe i'm totally wrong i really just supposed that) and the be quiet silent wings are really the thing for that since it has a really big airflow for this kind of fan (60cfm) for only 16.4dB (the 140mm) (let's not forget i'm aiming for silence),which is still very good according to the link you send me, i don't really understand why they won't be efficient to keep the load cool then ?

Thanks

Basically what he's saying is in order to keep noise levels down you need low RPM fans, but you can't fit thick rads so the rads you will end up buying more often than not will be ones with a high fin per inch numbered rad. This means you will need stronger fans at higher RPM in order to keep your cards cool. If silence is your goal you'll need a lot of radiator space that have low FPI and low RPM fans.

Oh alright, the silent wings 2 140mm i intend to use have a max RPM of 1000rpm for 60cfm (and less than 16dB most of all) and still a little bit of static pressure so i tough they could be a good idea for radiators not that thick, but i guess i can manage a way to put a more thick radiators at least on for the 280mm, so do you have any advice for some new fans or a new radiator that's not too expensive ? (I didnt buy the silent wings yet, only the 120mm for the rear radiator, which i need to be slim if i don't want him to interact with my dark rock..)

Thanks :)

I don't understand why you're putting a 120mm rad on the exhaust of your case, what is your case make and model? You could always mod the case to make things fit.

i have a Silent base 800 and i don't really want/can mod it, i don't have the possibility to feat a double rad in front so i figured it was better to have 2 intakes in front blowin on the 3 exaust rear and top, it will have way less negativ pressure than 4 exaust 1 intake

Of course if you have a better idea than mine please do share, and thanks for your time man :)
