Static noise from ModMic 4.0

Trobu

Yesterday I finaly got my new ModMic 4.0. But when I plugged it into my pc (rear motherboard I/O of Maximus VII Ranger), my friends could hear me really quiet and hear a lot of static noise. Should I get an amp/dac with a microphone input (like a Scarlett Solo) or just a soundcard? And if I get the Scarlett solo, will I be able to use my mic for skype, Teamspeak etc. ? Sorry if these questions sound stupid (I'm fairly new to the audiophile world) I'm using ATH-M50x's as my headphones

Thanks in advance

Are you sure it wasn't your friend's headphones? Is the wire frayed?

Call up Echo on Skype and test out the mic.

When I recorded myself on audacity, I can hear the noise and no, the wire is not frayed.
