looking for an M2. SSD

sgtcool
Go to solution Solved by IanDrexP,

Whats the best one?

im looking at the samsung 850 EVO M.2

-capacity doesnt really matter since its for winows 10 only

-and must be faster than my current 840 EVO 128GB (which runs at 350 MB/s read and 470 write -,- )

is there any faster and better ones? ive seen ones that were 3GB/s ?

budget: around 80€

motherboard:  GIGABYTE Z97X-GAMING 7  - supports M.2 SSD up to 10Gb/s

I would have suggested the Samsung SM951 but your motherboard can reach only 10Gb/s while this M.2 SSD can run up to 32Gb/s which would greatly bottleneck its performance. So I suggest getting a PCI-E to M.2 SSD adapter with the SM951 or just get a regular SATA3 SSD instead.

If it's JUST for your OS, why do you need an m.2? Why not just a normal SSD? It's cheaper and you can easily get a 120gb SSD in your price range, that way you can put other stuff on it in addition to your OS.

is there any good M.2s that have 10Gb/s ,maybe?

i like the simplicity of the M.2 ssd :) no cables and such :P

ill consider getting a "normal" SSD, maybe 850 pro

that superfast SSD + adapter goes a bit over my budget, but ill see ,my birthday is soon!

arent M.2s faster?

also its simplier to install

and i already have a 840 evo 128gb, but it slowed down a lot

They're faster, but the difference between a 10 second boot and a 7 second boot isn't gonna be much. And the speed boost you get in the OS isn't going to be much since all your programs are going to be running on slower drives. And have you tried running trim on your current SSD?

If you want a regular SATA SSD, I would suggest the SanDisk Extreme PRO. It is faster than the Samsung EVO and the PRO. Plus it has a 10 year warranty!
