Audio Technica AT2020 VS ATR2500

Silverer

Modmic got eaten by kitten, need a new mic, want a replaceable cable, these look good but which one...

Long story short, is the $50 difference in price worth it for general vocal recording / game use / teamspeak.

Audio clips appreciated.

Depends on your environment.  Condenser mics can and will pick up a lot of background noise unless you turn the gain down and have it right in your face with a boom/scissor arm, which is what they are designed for.  If you plan on having it on your desk, over a foot away, on a angle, beside your keyboard, you and whomever is listening are going to have a bad experience.

I plan on having it on my desk right in front of me, judging by the stand (that comes with each of these mics) height the mics would be 5-10cm away from my mouth at any given time unless leaning back in my chair, which I only really do while lazing around watching youtube and not really talking to people.

I own the ATR2500.  Got it on a sale, so I couldn't pass up at $70.  It is very good in my opinion (just have sound isolation on your desk (it will pick up tyoing vibrations (my solution is to use a mouse pad under it to dampen vibration).  I always get asked what mic i'm using cause it sounds really clear.  I was using a headset mic, then when I switched everyone was astonished at how much different I sounded haha.  I can't speak for the 2020, it seems to be highly regarded, but I think the performance/quality increase would be negligible.  My advice 2500, a quality mic at a somewhat budget price.

Thanks for the insight, would you mind recording a few words and uploading it to soundcloud?

I'm actually not at home, and won't be for about a week, so I won;t be able to give a recording. Look into some youtube reviews... I found this one https://youtu.be/O8ivTRPAW8oto be pretty honest and informative when I was looking into purchasing a mic.  He also does a test with the mic for the intro and outro of the video, to give you a idea of the mic's sound quality.
