Motherboard Overload

Found you guys at random on the youtubes, and loved the shows! The reason I found you guys is because I am in full on research mode for building my new rig. I am coming off a EVGA x58 FTW board which has been good to me for the last 5 years. It's time to update now and from my research I feel it's time to move away from EVGA mb's. After living on techtip (and related) channels I was was going to settle on the ASUS X99 Deluxe, but I've seen a lot of RMA's on this mb on other boards....and looking at ASUS boards, the community is non existent. EVGA has an awesome forum and a great community. So having said that do you guys have any recommendations for a mb along the lines of the ASUS Deluxe? This is going to be a gaming rig. I like the wifi option on the Deluxe but not 100% necessary. I only get to do this (at this level) once every 5 years or so....so it has to last. I am planning on 1 (for now) GTX 980ti but plan to add more later. CPU set to be Intel 5930. I Iike to OC....but not too crazy levels.

Depends how much you want to spend. my MSI X99 SLI Plus has been doing a great job. You can SLI 3 dual slot cards (4 if the last two are single slot cards).

Thanks Adam. I was looking at the MSI board, and was trying to wrap my head around the difference between the over clocking and gaming models, quality wise.

I have an Asus X99 Deluxe MB and have had no issues. Its pretty awesome to say the least. I would go with it!

I bought the Deluxe when X99 first dropped because the Sabertooth was not out yet. Now I've swapped for the Sabertooth, Deluxe is going into another build. Have to say I wasn't disappointed by either board, I just didn't need all the features of the Deluxe, and wanted the 5yr warranty of the Sabertooth (I'm also a once every 5 yr main rig builder, I moved from X58 UD3R/980X).

 

As for general recommendations, buy the board that has the features you want for the cheapest price. ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, & MSI all have good offerings at various price points for X99. You've come in at the right time since every board has seen at least one revision to allow for USB 3.1 Type C/A, and most manufacturers have worked out all the growing pains of first platform release. I'm partial to a long manufacturer's warranty, but the Sabertooth is certainly not the most "feature packed" board out there. The only thing that may change over the next few months is other brands besides Gigabyte and ASUS hopping on the OC socket train to allow a higher OC on the cache of the CPU, if all you're after is core OC, or no OC at all, you  can pick anything available that suits your needs.
