AOC u3477Pqu or the Acer XR341CK

So I've been considering a monitor upgrade for a while now.

And i think I've narrowed it down to two options now.

Wait for the Acer XR341CK at 75 Hz with gsync or the AOC U3477PQU

the AOC here is $1000 NZD and the Acer will be almost double at $1800

So i was wondering if anyone has overlocked a 21:9 panel and what the results were?

Because if i could get the AOC to say 75 Hz i would probably get that.

Also i could get the AOC now and god knows when the Acer will come out

Cheers :)

If you're primary concern is speed, why aren't you looking at a 1440p 144Hz panel? There's the Acer IPS and the Asus PG279Q upcoming. Either would give you a vastly better smooth gaming experience, albeit at 16:9 vs 21:9... so it ultimately depends what you feel is more important. The XR341CK is stupid insane money though... anyone would have to be certifiable to pay what they're asking. At similar money to the 16:9 144Hz offerings, there would be a case for it, but at that price, no way never.

I don't think you can overclock that panel in the AOC. I'm sure I read some instances where people tried and it wouldn't go much above 60 before flickering etc.

well first would be 21:9 :) then my second priority would be smoothness in gaming, however I'm not sure if thats worth the extra $800. from what I've seen the AOC panel is pretty much the same as the lg offerings just cheaper.

The acer xr341ck was renamed to acer x34 as far as i know; and its a 100hz IPS with gsync, according to Acers interviews in computex.

Dont know about you but i think its worth it. I, however, cant afford it, so i will be waiting for more competition and the eventual price drop.  Ive tried the 60hz non-sync route... and its just a mental torture. So, ill either get the acer x34 myself, or i`ll wait till i can.

The AOC is the same panel as used in the LG and Dell 34" monitors yes. The Acer X34 appears to be a very similar panel, maybe even the same one but factory overdriven an extra 15Hz and G-Sync/Freesync added... and a 100% mark-up slapped on it. Ridiculous.

The official specs in the manual (as shown below) list it as 75Hz. I've seen nothing to refute this other than some random guy saying it's 100Hz. I've also read from monitor experts who know these panels well that they don't think it's possible with this panel anyway, which as mentioned above is basically the same 60Hz panel that has been around for ages and used on the LG/Dell/AOC ultra-wides. We shall see, but my money is on 75Hz simply because that's what the manual says.

Oh well. Guess ill be waiting for OLED after all. Aint paying 1300EUR for 75hz. The price is overblown as it is. 100hz would have somewhat justified it.

You know the interview im talking about, yes? Where the ching chong at Computex says its 100hz instead of 75?

I cant be bothered to go find it now.

It WOULD be great. If the price was right...   as far as we know right now - they want to charge 1200$ for it. Thats just not cool with that 2560x1080 resolution.

600-700$ would be appropriate, making it a 100$ more than the LG 75hz freesync 34".

Yes I recall seeing that interview. It's the only mention of it anywhere outside of rumour though... and seems the manual puts that to rest, unless it's wrong. Reviews will appear soon enough with confirmation anyway.

34" 1440p ultra wide @ 120/144Hz is at least a year away. And because it will utilise DP 1.3 due to bandwidth, that also means a new GPU with a 1.3 port... which will be Pascal/HBM2... again, a year away. Unless some kind of magic happens and we see something appear Xmas/New Year, but I wouldn't hold my breath. As I say, you'd need a new GPU as well, not just the monitor.

For the foreseeable future, 16:9 1440p @ 144Hz IPS is going to be the ideal... there's already the Acer screen available, and the Asus PG279Q on the way.

Ive played in 21:9 for a while. So anything that isnt 21:9, is irrelevant to me... you get that from people who have gamed @ 21:9.

100hz on that x34 would actually be good enough. I dont need 120/144. Still hoping acer managed to make it 100hz after all.
