Crucial BX100

NDNPwnz

Hi I was wondering if anybody had this ssd and their impressions on how well it performs. It seems like a good value for the speed and I just want to make sure it's not another Kingston V300...

Well you can get a mushkin eco if you really want something cheap. It's not very fast from what I know but it's a far cry from how terrible the v300 is.

It's most likely a good SSD, but maybe consider the MX lineup if they're similarly priced.

Check out these benchmarks comparing the MX100 and BX100: http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Crucial-MX100-256GB-vs-Crucial-BX100-250GB/2317vs3145

This article from AnandTech explains more: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8861/crucial-announces-mx200-bx100-ssds-ssd-toolbox

The BX series is being marketed as a more entry-level budget drive.

"Feature wise the BX100 drops all the M-class features, so there is no hardware-accelerated encryption or SLC caching. Pricing is $70 for 120GB, $110 for 250GB, $200 for 500GB and $400 for 1TB, so it's very competitively priced like the MX100, although given the lack of features I would have like to see a bit lower pricing since the MX100 currently retails for about the same prices. Availability is also Q1'15 and we will be getting samples soon."

My budget is around $100 and the 250 gb on Amazon is $95 right now. I'm upgrading from laptop from a 5400 rpm hdd. It's going to be my first ssd :D

What I personally would do is buy either a Crucial MX100 or a Samsung 850 Evo. They both are only about 15 more bucks, are most definitely way better, especially since they are targeted at being budget enthusiast grade hardware. They definitely are a lot faster though, specifically the 850. I think the extra 15 bucks over the BX100 is well worth it. Link to 850 Evo and MX100 on Amazon.
